new vegan finds!

i'd like to start a thread of new things you happen across or discover that are vegan.  i browse around in the grocery store quite a bit, reading labels, and sometimes find some pretty interesting and surprising vegan foods!

so anyway, one i found this weekend is....banana babies!  they're from diana's bananas and the dark chocolate ones are vegan.  they're just frozen bananas dipped in chocolate, but..mmmm.  the chocolate is a tiny bit waxy, but all in all, i thought it was a pretty good find.

also, many of marie calendar's fruit pies are vegan as well, which is awesome for a yummy, fatty dessert when i don't feel like making one, haha...

anyone else been finding something cool and yummy?

ALL skittles are vegan now!!!!!!!!
I saw them at a gas station somewhere on the trip i went on. Mmm, so good.

Yes, me too!  I saw the words "gelatin free" on the package and was like  :smooth:

Which is good because I promised skittles to one of my students.

"Nakd. wildly different"

I found these in my UK supermarche at the w/end; They are lara bar-esque in that they are predominantly made with dates.  The blurb states:  "nothing artificial, no added sugar, syrups, wheat, dairy or GMO, cold-pressed never baked, 1 of your 5 a day and NATURALLY VEGAN".  They are made in Wales, eatnakd.com

They come in a pack of 5 for £2 (which isn't much when you consider Lara Bars cost £1.30 ish over here for one!) and I bought the "berry" version and the "cocoa loco" (which was lush btw).  Not quite fully raw for you rawists out there but very close with raw dates, raisins, peanuts, almonds, walnuts; non-raw ingredients being oats, apple juice and cocoa.

edited to add:  forgot this bit - they are 90% fat free and 100 cals a bar!

OMG they are yummy aren't they!?  I have become addicted since finding them in Sainsbury's for that cheap price.

I was going to complain earlier today when I saw all these Skittles posts that during spring break, every place I went to that sold Skittles had the old gelatin variety, but today I found the new ones in the bookstore at school! Original and sour!! Yaaaaay
and I wanna try the berry ones, and the tropical ones, and and...
I paid too much for them. While out Skittle-hunting I saw them for 60-70 cents a package, and these were a dollar per. But I'm back in cow town, so I have no choice! I spent 4.95 on CAAAAANDY

btw, those stuffed-chicken things at TJs are pretty cool. Kinda pricey, and they started stocking them (under the original name brand) at whole foods, but for the same price. I always assumes TJs can get a better deal, but I guess not always.

was is specified as vegan or soy?  cus i know that dairy queen uses a 'non-dairy' base for their soft-serve but it's not vegan, it's non-dairy in the same way that non-dairy creamer is.. but still contains dairy.

-why the hell do they even call that stuff non-dairy anyway??

yeah, "non-dairy" seems like false advertising to me. In a way I get what they mean - non dairy creamer is not actually cream, but "non-dairy" implies that there's no dairy. "lactose free" might be more accurate.

cool! you should add it to the 'eating out' section so people can find it if they're traveling in that area.  or live there and don't know about it.

at world market they have a bunch of different store brand flavors of dark chocolate bars.. chipotle, chili lime, pomegranate, & sea salt.  they're around 2 bucks a bar.

at whole foods they have So Delicious Coconut Milk Beverage in the fridge section by the other soymilks.  there's original, vanilla & unsweetened.  they're on sale for like $2.40 and even though im not a huge fan of coconut i picked up the unsweetened one cus it only has 50 calories a cup!  so low!  i'll be sure to post my review to the official thread..

lastly - nasoya has a new line of tofu called Silken Creations and it comes in Dark Chocolate, Vanilla, & Strawberry.. it says they're starters for smoothies & desserts.

really lastly now - wolfgang pucks organic soups were on sale at whole foods too and I had a coupon so i hunted through them, the only vegan one i found is the tortilla soup flavor.  weird.  anyway - all the other veg based ones have milk, cream, butter or eggs in them.

I bought the Chipotle Dark Chocolate bar from World Market the other day.....good, but not as spicy as I had hoped....
And the Wolfgang Puck Tortilla soup is delicious....expensive for soup, but worth it every once in a while.

So Delicious... Coconut Milk Beverage? :D what will this company do next, make vegan truffles, or maybe just injectable coconut oil?  :)>>>
(I know, I know it only has 50 cal/cup, but they do seem to have the market cornered on making decadent vegan sweets).

I had the chili lime chocolate bar from World Market, and it was actually pretty good (my sister got it for me, knowing I like chili, but I've had some bad citrus/chocolate or pepper/chocolate combos).

Around Christmas time, World Market has various gingerbread house kits, some of which are vegan. I think one said to use egg white in the frosting, another made no mention (I've had no problem not adding eggwhite and just adding cornstarch). I love making gingerbread houses, and this year I can even decorate with vegan Skittles! XD

I just had the now-vegan sour skittles. I've never had them (they came out after I went vegetarian), and I'm a sucker for sour candy, so I expected them to be... better. The ones from the U.K. were way better... but at least they're out there!
