new vegan finds!

i'd like to start a thread of new things you happen across or discover that are vegan. i browse around in the grocery store quite a bit, reading labels, and sometimes find some pretty interesting and surprising vegan foods!
so anyway, one i found this weekend is....banana babies! they're from diana's bananas and the dark chocolate ones are vegan. they're just frozen bananas dipped in chocolate, but..mmmm. the chocolate is a tiny bit waxy, but all in all, i thought it was a pretty good find.
also, many of marie calendar's fruit pies are vegan as well, which is awesome for a yummy, fatty dessert when i don't feel like making one, haha...
anyone else been finding something cool and yummy?
Man, I wish oreos were vegan in the UK. Don't think I've ever had one but I'm sure I would love them (damn TV addvertising!)
Also, in the US do they ever add lecithins to chocolate? In the UK chocolate that would otherwise be vegan sometimes contains lecithins, which are generally animal derived (eggs I think?) unless it specifies soya lecithins. It's annoying.
most of the time in the US what you see is soy lecithin. FDA rules are that they (manufacturers) have to specify origins of foods that can come from more than one source, like starches and lecithin.
I finally got a response back from Nabisco (company that makes oreos).. here's what they said when I asked if I could recieve a list of products that are actually vegan (and I mentioned that regular cane sugar processed through bone char was not vegan)..
"Hi Jessica,
Thank you for visiting http://www.nabiscoworld.com.
I'm glad to share some information with you about the "natural vegetarian flavors" used in Kraft Foods.
The term natural vegetarian flavors means that all flavor components are both all natural and of vegetable origin. While we are not at liberty to reveal specific details regarding product formulations, please be assured that our products are formulated to meet the specific needs of vegetarians and natural food consumers.
If you haven’t done so already, please add our site to your favorites and visit us again soon!

If for starters, they didn't even answer the question, provided no information regarding the process of their ingredients, and they don't know the difference between vegan and vegetarian.. I doubt they are actually vegan. Sorry vegan livers.
don't u love that?!?! i love how they never actually answer ur question! it's bull shit and i'm sick of it... i hope one day we as consumers have the right to know wtf we r eating... it disgusts me that companies get away with bs answers like that :(

that's good - often stuff will just say lecithin, so I'll avoid that. Sometimes it says soya lecithin, so then I know it's ok. I wish they'd use soya lecithin as the standard.
Actually maybe I don't coz then I'd eat more chocolate ::)

Ha, yeah, it's amazing.. That's why I was actually shocked when I went to the Newman's Own website. Don't know of any other brands that actually provide their consumers with detail of what they're eating.

I was just talking about that this morning! I used to buy these store brand chocolate chips because they cost 1/3 the price of Ghirardelli's, but last week I noticed that the ingredients just said "lecithin," while ghirardelli's specifies "soy lecithin." I didn't buy them because I want to find out for sure. I guess I need to call the company to find out.
meijers stores have their own rip-off version of trader joes candy cane jo-jos, they're seasonal and on clearance right now. i didnt buy them cus im trying to curb my squishiness..
EVERYONE. EVERYONEEE. Needs to go and get morningstar sweet and sour chikn. They have meals now!! Too new to even be online. Theres lasagna (not vegan). and this.
ITS JUST LIKE TAKEOUT. Ohmygeeze. So effing good. Mouthgasms worthy.
I know lots of people are not fans of morningstar right now due to them making crumbles unvegan. But. Seriously. This is good. Its with gardein meat (Which kind of doesnt make sense?, you think they'd use their meat.. haha.) I guess they might be owned by the same company? I havent looked into it due to this being too good for me to care.
sarah's making my mouth waterrrrrrr
At TJs, there's a frozen appetizer thing called Cucumber Wonton Rolls, labeled vegan. I know cucumber wontons sound weird, but they're pretty tasty. It's not just cucumber in the filling - there's tofu, tvp, and sweet potato, among other things. They're the dumpling type of wonton, not fried.
Starbucks has vegan/gf/mostly organic cookies noww. And I guess they're sold at Whole Foods and Stop and Shop also. They're lucys brand. And super yummy.
I had the chocolate chip kind. They have little bags of 4 or 5 cookies for $1.25 at the Starbucks here. Here's the website:

Also. Starbucks has these organic, vegan, raw bar things. I just looked at them really quick so I'm not really sure whats all in them but the one I looked at was yummy looking.
I just came across Betty Lou's Organic Almond Smackers (chocolate almond butter patties)
Like a peanut butter cup but w/ almond butter, and labeled vegan! I got one for my daughter for Vday, we'll see what the verdict is.
Oo. nmpixie, that sounds good. I hope they taste good too!!
Also, I did get the raw bar from Starbucks. Its made by Two Moms in the Raw. It was really good! It was mostly millet, pumpkin seeds, and sunflower seeds. It also had blueberries. However, I only got it as a one time try thing, because it was almost 4 dollars!! Yikes. But its good to know if I'm ever on a long drive or somewhere that has like, Burger King, Mcdonalds and Starbucks I can at least have something to eat.
i saw some boxed instant mashed potatoes made by Edwards & Sons (i believe) today.. they had 3 flavors - plain, roasted garlic & "chreesy". they all had the big vegan V on the front.
Apparently Häagen-Dazs sorbets do not have dairy in them, and some do not have any corn syrup either. I have only tried the Mango thus far, and it is pretty good.
i heard about amy's soy mac and cheese being vegan but i went to a health food the other day and i looked at the ingredients and it said it contained milk. :/ maybe that was from before they changed the recipe?

It's the rice mac and cheese that's GF, and vegan. It's new, and I don't know if it's in stores yet. Looks good, though.
