Why am I still hungry?
I often have days like this. I'll eat plenty and an hour or so later I'm really hungry again. For example today's menu (so far). I had a blueberry muffin and a soy chai latte. Then as a mid morning snack I had a bunch of green grapes and a big chunk of seitan o' greatness (yes I know they don't go together and yes, I love seitan o' greatness just by itself). After that I had leftover mac and cheese (New Farm version) and a bowl of Vcon hot and sour soup. All of this was BEFORE 12:30. A little more than an hour later I am hungry again. What's worse is that I have no food left to eat :( I ate it all! Now as some of you know, lately my job has been very slow, so I am not running around or doing field work and burning off all these calories. I am basically at my desk sitting and reading. Why am I so hungry all the time? Each week I am packing myself more and more food to take to lunch and I usually keep peanut butter crackers or granola bars in my desk as a "rescue" snack. Sometimes I get hungry so suddenly that I feel like I'm going to starve!
I get like that sometimes. Could be because you are slow at work. When I am busy sometimes I forget to eat. If I'm bored I start thinking about food.
Boredom and frustration often trigger the munchies. I remember when I was in hospital for a couple of weeks meals were the high points of the day.
I guess there is a correlation between being hungry and not having a lot to do. Hmmmm. Another reason for me to find another job, I'm going to starve from boredom if I don't ;D
Yep--just like yabbit said--boredom=munchies! But if it makes you feel any better I have been the same way lately--I just want to eat and eat and eat! Lately I have been craving really bad food too--fried stuff and dairy! *blech* why would my body crave evil stuff like that after all the wonderful things I have been putting it in????
It happens,
I eat a lot.
I mean a lot.
My friends laugh at me , I will be eating 2 packs of oatmeal in class.
But the other day I noticed something fun.
If you eat applesauce (unsweetened) it takes your hunger away.
Also eat an apple before you eat a cookie, that way you wont pig out on them.
What I do sometimes, I eat something I don't like or brush my teeth to stop myself from eating. ;D
It sounds like everything you ate is at least nutritious! I also eat Seitan o Greatness by the chunk. hahah You are NOT alone there.
Boredom is a huge trigger of mine. Try to find busy work. Either filing (making labels, putting folders together, filing papers and alphabetizing things) or general office clean up will swiftly pass the time. You could also find things to do online. Free Rice seemed to pull me in for a long time at a stretch without me needing to do something else (aka eat).
I feel your pain though. I ate a lot today. Oatmeal, cheezy quakers, few bites of pear, big lunch of rice tofu & snow peas, apple & golden pea butter. I could eat more. Plus today is shopping day and deciding what to make all week means I am ready to gnaw on my faux wood desk. *sigh*
If you can find any, I know hard candies or fruit leathers really help stave off the munchies because 1) you have something in your mouth, 2) it is something sweet, and 3) with the leathers, at least, your body has to work to get the goodness of it.
Another thing that I saw is that you're not eating that much fat in those snacks.... If you add just the tiniest amount of fat (like an avocado), you should be able to stay satisfied longer....fat does satiate the beast of munchies the best!!! (you just have to learn to control the type an amount of fat you use!)
The apple trick works well, when you eat an apple or apple sauce, it produces gas in your stomach to make it feel fuller.
i've found the more i eat for breakfast, the hungrier i am for the rest of the day. when i ate a big bowl of oatmeal for breakfast, i was STARVING by 10, but now that i just eat a couple pieces of fruit, i dont get hungry until noon, which is my lunch break.

I'm the same! Sometimes I say, "OK, I'll have a big breakfast so I can eat lighter later on and won't be so hungry." NEVER WORKS. The big breakfast revs up my appetite or something. Fruit is best for breakfast, anyhow, because the nutrients are best absorbed that way.
I think my stomach stretches or something. When I eat more than normal (like, over the holidays), I am always excessively hungry for a few weeks afterward. It's annoying.
I think I agree with everything said so far..and I think if you do start to eat A LOT more..your stomach will stretch, and you will get hungrier. The other thing I've found is that my hunger will correlate with my menstrual cycle. It used to be that I would start getting ravenous about 3 days before my period..then it went to like 2 weeks before, and lately I've been feeling hungrier all the time! Nevertheless, I've been trying to cut calories, and up my workouts to lose a few pounds. I love to cook/bake, and love to eat! : )
Glad I'm not alone. My coworker would make fun of me because I would try my best to hold out and not to eat my lunch before noon. As soon as that clock hits 12:00 I run to the fridge! Now with no coworker and with little work to do I don't even bother waiting until noon sometimes.
A friend of mine once said to me, "Hunger is a pain in your stomach." I learned that if you have the munchies for a particular thing, you're not really hungry, it's just a craving. Especially if someone offers you say, a piece of plain bread or an apple, and your reaction is "no thanks." When I wasn't eating enough to support my multivitamin, I would eat anything, including dry breadcrust. Get it in there! ;D
As a kid I babysat put it, "Anna, I'm not bread-and-butter hungry. I'm chocolate cake hungry." That's just munchies!
I second PMS...or maybe you have a tapeworm! ;)b Just kidding...hee ;)

If it's PMS, it's comes really early (like a week or two). I've actually considered the tapeworm theory ;D

Apples make me hungrier. ??? :( Gas = true ... apples make me burp something terrible! ;D But when that's out, it feels like I'm more hungry than before I ate the apple. So I like to have a little something with the apple. I've been working on healthy muffin recipes, and I'm looking to make them smaller, too.

maybe have the apple with a bit of protein and/or fat - like some nuts or peanut butter. yum! that might help you feel fuller.
My appetite is always trying to trick me into thinking I actually want some more food. I get so bored on my days off because it's usually during the week (tuesday and wednesday most of the time) and nobody I know has those days off so as soon as I'm done cleaning up around the house I feel like I have nothing to do. Sometimes I read, sometimes I watch a movie or two, sometimes I spin some records and dance around my room like nobody's watching. But I always keep going back into the kitchen and grabbing something to snack on. It's hard, and I wish I could change it, but whatever

Yes, do this! I sometimes keep peanut butter here at work so that when I have apples I can make a yummy snack. I think it goes great with a tangy apple like granny smith
