Raw Chit-Chat!
Hi everyone!
I'm planning on going raw for the entire month of August and I thought it would be great if we had a raw chit chat spot! I know a lot of other vegwebbers have expressed interest in either eating raw or going raw--so maybe we can help each other out here! I'm a total noob when if comes to raw, but I'm hoping my 30 day experiment will turn me into a master class raw veganist! I will be blogging everyday during August and posting pics and recipes of what I am eating--should be some great stuff plus all the "Raw Blogs" will be public!
I already have a bunch of questions! Can anyone help?
Raw milk--are there any store brands out there or do I have to make my own? Any super simple recipes for nut milk?
Dried sea weed (like wakame) how long do you soak it for?
I don't have a dehydrator and 150 is the lowest setting on my oven--how can I dry/toast oats, etc. and still have them be raw?
How the heck do I make sun tea?
OK then! That's what I got for now--I hope this can be a great place for raw info!!!

I just have to say congrats to all you guys who can do raw all the time. ;)b I think it's a really cool concept and all your dishes look great (I'm looking especially at you, Storm) and I might try it someday, but right now I'm living in the tundra that is Wisconsin, so no hot foods sounds like torture. But y'all are awesome!!! Keep on truckin'.
hmmm... cap, are you asking the people in the store? if not, what section are you looking in? they can be in random places!
Yes! I am totally asking! People totally don't know what they are--but they ALWAYS offer me kelp powder *LOL*
Lunch!

Oh my god--what is rawmesan and how do I make it???
I bought it, as you can see from the picture. However, it would certainly be easy to make yourself. The ingredients are ground up walnuts, ground up sunflower seeds, nutritional yeast and Celtic sea salt.
That looks like CRAZY good! YUM! Thanks for telling u all how to make our own rawmesan! That sounds good <3
What do we all think about steaming food? Before I moved up to WA I was staying with a friend and I feel in love with their steamer! It was awesome setting up some rice and veggies then coming back 30 minutes later to a complete meal! Are there any steamers on the market available with a temp setting as low as 105 F??
So I have been able to do75% simple raw for the past 3 days! It's not the greatest--just some smoothies and salads fr breaky/lunch and then I eat something simple like cooked rice and tomatoes for dinner--I am trying SO har to break my sugar addiction up here--and it is not easy with people offering me junk food--it's frustrating having to say no to the same person a million times a day...but I gotta do it!!!
Actually...today in general has been a little rough...I could totally use a hug
:( Storm!!!!! I need you to hug me now!!!! <3

I was doing really well in eating about 60% raw until the last day and half. I have had way too many refined grains, and I don't know why. Ick... I think I will go run for a couple extra miles today.
Two weeks ago I cut out all soy, gluten, and sugar in my diet and started eating raw.
These 14 days have been the longest I've ever gone without binging and it feels so damn amazing.

Oh Cappy....I'm so sorry I missed this. I've been offline all weekend!

I hope things are better today.
I slipped off to about 70% raw over the past week, thinking I should back it down since I'm going to be incarcerated at my mother's house for at least a week following my surgery and I won't be able to stay on high raw during that time.....and now I feel like shit. My arthritis has flared badly and I can't take any meds for it before the surgery. I can't even take herbal supplements. My hands hurt trying to type this. Needless to say, I'm going back to high raw until the surgery next week and then I'll deal with my mother over raw while I'm down. I'll live on salads if I have to, but this is unbearable.
day 1 and i changed my profile to say raw foodist to hold me to it. haha.
annnd i think i am going to start a blog. will post it if i do!
Thank you sooooooooooooo much Storm! Always my best lady! So much love for you--I hope you feel better soon! I sent you a message <3
That is awesome Hesp!!! I hope you like it! <3 <3
Yay Hespy!!
Okay!! So I am going to buy some raw provisions for the road and I need suggestions!
So far I have on my list:
Apples
Carrots
Raw butter (almond or cashew)
Lara bars
What else would be good while driving 3000 miles?? Remember I have no access to any equipment--it has to be ready to eat and not too messy or messy at all actually! I also have no raw appliances here (dehydrator, blender, food processor, etc) so making up stuff in advance is not really an option unless it only requires a knife. We also have limited ability to keep things refrigerated, although it is November so it is pretty cold outside.
My thanks and kisses in advanced! <3
Bananas to go with your nut butter!
i would get dates, bananas, greens if you have a cooler...
avocados, my mom always brings them on road trips...
Thanks everyone--all rawlicious replies!
I just bought a dehydrator, everyone! I have been hemming & hawing about it forEVER (much the same way I did about a juicer), and I finally decided to just go for it. I found this special link online that saved me $111 on an Excalibur! The total came to $249.95 for a 9-tray with 26-hour timer. Free extended 10-year warranty, free nonstick sheets, free banana slicer (what the hell is this? A knife? Haha), and free shipping! I am SO excited to get this & continue on my raw "journey." You all are so inspiring!
Nice JC! I'm totally jealous.
i bought a dehydrator and haven't used it yet :(
i got it when i was doing more raw experimentation and then i read the 80/10/10 diet and now i don't wanna dehydrate. i think i am going to make some corn/flax chips today, though.
omg i am back everyone, work has been hella stressful, i have been sooo busy (working 80+ hrs during a rush season), and now that things have calmed down i am able to go back to more raw! i fell off of the wagon but am trying to get back into a moderately high-to-high raw diet....your continued support and vegweb luvin is always appreciated!
cappy! how are you?!?!?!
Storm!!! get well sooN!
