I feel horrible. My mom said that if i didnt eat the garbanzos on my plate i couldnt go to camp. I lied; I fed them to my dog. I just put them in rice with carrots. She kept adking me if i was sure i ate them because they virtually disappeared. I hang my head in shame. I like ummm hardly ever lie to my mom. My mom will notice if i dont eat the beans again. So... need to get rid of them the right way by eating them... :-\
HELP :( To me they tasted like cheese idk?

ohhh, i know how that feels. i HATE lying. about anything to anyone. like little white lies kill me. i can't do it. i am too honest for my own good.
i am kind of confused, do you still need to eat them? make hummus. garbanzo beans, tahini, lemon juice, olive oil, mash/ food process it and you have a delicious dip/spread.
Spices are what you need. I personally like plain garbanzo beans in salad with lots of veggies and a good balsamic vinegar dressing, though. If that's not for you I suggest you try
Chana Masala http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=5060.0
This one isn't a vegweb recipe but it's one my DH loves to make and eat:

Look in the garbanzo section and you'll find lots and lots of recipes:

This is one I plan on making later this week so I'll let you know how it turns out:

I am sorry you did something you feel badly about. You have a conscience, that counts for a lot, even if you lied.
You know, beans are a great source of protein and fiber and someone was just looking out for you because they love you. BUT beans were NOT meant to eat straight. If they were, then why is there is tahini, tabasco, chili powder, curry powder, ketchup, garlic and onions? Just to name a few things. Beans are so wonderful when they are zipped up with some spices and seasonings.
All time favorite way to eat garbanzos: Can of beans, drained, mashed a bit with tofu mayo, pickle relish, chopped celery, a little minced onion and a sprinkle of either seasoning salt or best yet, dulse granules (a seaweed). Serve like a sandwich spread. So good...
you don't have to eat them plain or lie about it, just get a bit creative.

Hey Violin,
I hate to be such the Mommy here...
But the thing is if you're gonna be vegan then you need to eat legumes.
I always HATED garbanzos because my mom used to just open a can and put them on salads... ECK.
I didn't know you could roast them in the oven with salt, vinegar and other spices!
But say you still hate garbanzos, that's fine! I understand.
You need to tell you're mom, "Look Mom... I really just don't like garbanzos... BUT I've done some research and XYandZ will give me the same amount of protein and iron! Can we maybe try XYZ as a replacement?"
If she says no and if you're still feeding the garbanzos to the dog (which I'm not saying you should ;)) then YOU need to take the responsibility for your diet and your health and eat XYZ on yor own.
and Capture,
I'm gonna need a link to that Jay-Z song now. ;) ;D ;D
i can eat a whole canful when they're a little mashed up with mayo and then i throw a bunch of red grapes in, so good in the summer. the sweetness of the grapes might help get rid of the cheesy flavor you taste a little.
Garbanzos mashed with mayo and a little mustard taste like egg salad used to. Lush. On wholegrain toast--mahvelous, dahling!

I LOVE the Jay-Z/ Linkin Park CD- Keeps my pace up when I run
tell your mom to settle down, and if she keeps nagging you youre going to start smoking
Time to drag out the smoker's lungs photos. If you smoke, pretty, stop, and if you don't, don't start!
garbanzos taste like heaven to me.
I wish canned garbanzos didn't smell like rotting fish to me. I almost gagged when I opened a can to make chana masala, even rinsing them didn't help. Ended up making a veggie masala dish.

Dude, I feel ya. I really can't eat canned beans. Canned black beans seem ok, and refried beans are fine, but ever since I got a crock pot, I just cook dried beans. It seems the longer I eat dried beans, the grosser (a word?) canned beans are to me.
Yup, bottled chickpeas are ok in a pinch or for hummus but I like to boil my own legumes. The bottled chickpeas here always have a kind of transparent gelatin about halfway down the jar, to the bottom...disturbing!
