Earthquake in NZ!!

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/ap_on_re_as/as_new_zealand_earthquake

I just saw this about the terrible earthquake in Christchurch. I hope everyone is OK. Please let us know, and what, if anything we can do to help. I'm so worried.

I probably should have posted this in the news section.

I'm pretty certain Heli is our only vegwebber in Christchurch, and thankfully she is safe.
The devastation is massive though, and search and rescue teams are still combing through destroyed buildings for survivors and to retrieve bodies.

It's a horrifying week for New Zealand :' (

Either way - I wish Ms. Theo, Ms. Heli, Ms. OWW, Ms. Shelloid and any other NZ VegWebbers my best and most positive thoughts. :)

Concerned,
Josh

To be honest, I have no idea how far away stuff in NZ is from each other, I always assume islands are tiny. I R Dumb. I also should check the current topics before going "AAACCCKKKK!" and posting a new one. Cupcakes? Demanding quake victims... Glad heli and loved ones are safe.

New Zealand is a little larger than California and Oregon put together.

you've heard about the latest shakes?  a 5.5 about 2.5 hours ago and a 6.0 about an hour ago, so far it's unclear how bad the damage is, but at least 6 people hospitalised.  Thinking of Heli and her man! : /

I just heard about it right now and came straight here. NZ people, please let us know how you are.

Is Heli the only one here who lives in that area of NZ?

yup, I live at the top of the North Island, Shell and Theo live at the bottom of the North Island, and Christchurch is half way down the South Island.

yeah we're fine, and I've heard from other people I know in Christchurch that they're ok.  Reports are no fatalities and 10 people hospitalised.

Sounds horrendous - one of the guys I know had just got his house in some sort of shape and things like TV / stereo / etc replaced and he got home and his house was trashed and all his new stuff are broken.

Hope to hear from heli and her man soon.

asjdbfanckajixlahbj................. :wow: I don't know what to say. Technically we're 'okay', no damage, and Paul's family up the road are alright too. But I'm a bundle of nerves. I don't know how much more of this bloody shaking I can put up with.

We'd just finished rearranging and tidying up the lounge when the 5.5 came at one o'clock. Nothing fell over, but we sure got the shakes nevertheless. A bit later he drove me into town to my hairdresser - which had only reopened a few weeks ago, it'd been closed since the February quake! - and not two minutes after the stylist had finished cutting and blowdrying my hair, the 6 hit. The power was knocked out and we kind of huddled on the floor for a minute as bottles fell off the shelves. She closed the store as I left; Paul picked me up, and we drove home thru the mad traffic, with no traffic lights. The DVDs I'd so neatly stacked that morning had all fallen over. Meh!

As I was having a chat to my parents, he got txted asking if he could come into work overnight. I just about burst into tears when he left. Methinks it's gonna be a rough night full of trembles. But at least I can make a nice hot dinner. Some comfort food is definitely in order... and wine! I need wine! *raises glass* Here's to no more major shakes.

Glad to hear you're okay!
I can't image what it would be like going through that multiple times. Eek. Lets hope no more shaking comes your way.

So good to hear you are ok Heli.  *crosses fingers* that any aftershocks will be very, very minor and non-scary.

I'm happy to hear that everyone is alright physically. Crossing my fingers that there are no more shakes. Stay strong, Heli!  <3
