I just scored a....... (a thread about finding great deals!!!)

I  love to brag about how little I paid for something. Like my $2.00 boots, or $14 Tofurkey dinners. This thread is dedicated to all the good deals we find!  8-)

I just scored (2) three pound tubs of Earth Balance for $2.99!

At this gross discount grocery store which hardly has anything vegan, they had these HUGE ASS tubs of EB (commercial size?) for $2.99 each. I did not realize until I got home that she only charged me for one, and NO I did not go back to correct her error! It is sort of far away (now I'm sure karma will bite me in the ass at some point). But jeez.....6 pounds for 3 bucks! I need to take a picture so you can appreciate how large these are. They are bigger than my head.

Anyone else get any good deals lately?

i am sooooo jealous. they don't have the big tubs here AND it's like a billion dollars for the normal sized ones :(

once i got fyh monterey jack cheese for two dollars a block. that sounds lame in comparison to yours. sigh.

Ahhh I love to get great deals on things!  So far the biggest score I have gotten wasn't for me nor food related!  I got Angel's Winter Formal dress for $38 from Goodwill with the tags on it in 2007.  In 2008 we went to the same Goodwill and found the most amazing dress and while not brand new with tags on it? We paid a whole $6.99 for it.

Oh yeah!

i got a really similar deal on smart balance light about a month ago l2a!  i think i paid 3.99 for the giant tub at aldi's and it was a temporary item that when they sold out of em they were gone.  i was so excited i texted all my vegan friends so they could all go get some in time!

ive gotten some great deals in the past couple days so im totally gonna brag too:

12oz jar of fire roasted red peppers
15oz jar of marinated red peppers
12oz jar of sweet relish
8oz jar of minced garlic
8oz bottle of gelatin-free nail polish remover

all from the dollar store for $1 each!

2 - 3 pk boxes of black jewell premium microwave popcorn on clearance for 2.46 each

kroger value brand semi-sweet chocolate chips on sale for 1.12 a bag!!  i stocked up and got 4

and what im most excited about... a 9oz bottle and a 6oz spritzer bottle or white truffle oil for 5.99 & 4.99!  i got them from marshalls and was so suprised to see the bottles mixed in with the shelves of misc olive oils and vinegars.  ok, theyre not totally pure truffle oil - it's a blend of olive, canola & truffle oils but im still super excited to try them and couldnt let myself pass them up!  now i just gotta think of what to spritz it on.. omg - truffle popcorn...

There is a Big Lots very close to my house, so I'm always there looking for bargains.  Recently, I've found:

a jar of organic applesauce for $1.70
a box of organic Yogi Piccadilly Breakfast tea (so good!) for $0.75! (I bought two boxes)
a ginormous container of old-fashioned oats for $2.50 (I'm not sure if that's any cheaper than supermarket price)
big container of raw almonds for $2.50
a 24-count box of Nature's Path organic pop-tarts for $5--it's basically two boxes of pop-tarts inside a bigger box (They aren't vegan and I really don't even like pop-tarts, but I know my family likes them and I couldn't pass up a deal!)

I LOVE to bargan shop! I always check the dollar store near me before going to the regular stores.  They have an odd collection but today they had Westsoy soy milk for $1!  I usually have to pay 2 something at the grocery store.  I'm going to try their roasted red peppers in a recipe tonight too...just to lazy to roast a pepper and all that.  Besides the jar was only a $1 and that is cheaper than buying a red pepper at the mo.  The past few times they have had bags of dried raisens and cranberries that go in muffins and such quite well.    Also, the kroger clearance table is great for finding odds and ends...today I found a bottle of smoked chipolte hot sauce for 89 cents!

ponycakes, you made me want to go back and get another big tub of EB. I'm going tomorrow if I can figure out how to combine it with another errand. I just heard of this place that gives away free broken tile (perfect for my mosaic bathroom floor plans). I plan to go get both "deals" tomorrow!

I forgot....this week at another slightly less gross discount store, they had SO DELICIOUS COCONUT MILK yogurt for sale  (3 for ONE dollar). I got 9 the other day, and today I went and got 15 more. I can't fit any more in my fridge, or I would go back and clean them out. There is probably 30 more at the store....they will be mine if I can get the fridge cleaned out!

At my regular HFS these cost $1.99 EACH!!!!

do it!
my mom buys eb on sale and keeps it in the freezer until we're almost out of the one in the fridge, then she puts the frozen one in the fridge to thaw so that by the time the old one is used up, the new one is ready for using.

Hmm...that's good to know about freezing eb.  we only carry the small tubs at my hfs, but yesterday i special ordered the big tubs for myself...which means i had to order a case.  my mom and dad are gonna split it with me, but i wondered how it would freeze.

I totally love Craig's List.  Just last week our fridge and stove died at the same time, and replacing them with new, low end ones, even with my dad's discount ( he works for GE) would have cost 1500.  And thats for the el cheapo ones.  We found a post on CL for a 3 year old side by side fridge and stove, mid to high line, stainless steel, for 1200, and bargained down to 1000 for the pair.  Whooo hooo!!  those babies cost 2500 retail, and I am in kitchen seventh heaven. :)>>>

I also love Goodwill.  You can find great stuff their, I get lots of new shoes, tags still on, and misc kitchen stuff I want, but don't want to pay full price for.  Have also found furniture and toys there.  I recently found a brand new doll, still in box with the old price sticker still on it, I got it for 5, but someone paid almost 40 bucks for it.  It can wait for my daughter to grow up a bit.

Champion juicer for forty bucks. The best deals I ever got was when I worked at a health food wharehouse and when bags got broke I was allowed to take them home for my "compost". I once got 100 pounds of organically dried apricots because they found a worm in one bag. I searched through them and found none. We  have a store around here caled MTF or now I think it is Price Matters and we get all sorts of deals there from vegan ice cream to vegie meats to those fancy potato chips (Terra foods) etc all for around 1 dollar. You just have to be there at the right time! The local thrift store has a two dollar bag sale one week each month. Anything you can stuff in a bag for two dollars a bag. Needless to say our closets are overflowing with clothes and my book shelf is tight full with vegan cookbooks etc. i am not much of a fashion hound but my wife is always telling me about the brand new 200 dollar dress she got as part of a bag. We used to send lots of clothes to Africa but the postal rates have increased too much to do it anymore. We would receive photos of all these little African kids wearing the fancy clothes we sent.

Circuit city is closing in less than 10 days (here at least), so movies and cds are all 60% off. Yayy. I'm getting movies for 4 or 8 dollars. <3

There was the day (a year or so ago) where the dough was 99 cents, and so was the whole wheat pasta (1lb). Ah, but they're still the land of deals on health food in my book.

I got a bra at Target yesterday for 5.48 (and it's a good brand).

Last fall I got a pair of running pants/shorts/things there on clearance for 3.48

I got some "Christmas" teas a couple weeks ago at the grocery store for $1 a box - they're not expired, they just are holiday-themed (gingersnap, mint/cinnamon, "eggnog" flavored)
