Open letters

Seeing as we've got confessions and problems and issues springing up in threads all over the shop, I thought it might be interesting to have an open letter thread. Cathartic, perhaps. From your mother ruining your wedding, to your boyfriend who can't stop peeing on the toilet seat, or even that guy on the bus who kept making that annoying noise with his mouth, get it out here.

I'll get the ball rolling.

To my dear darling boyfriend,

Just because you are technically 'clean' when you come out the shower, it doesn't mean that I am okay with using the same towel you've been rubbing all over yourself for a month. I know you have others. I bought you two myself. Drag them out from the murky depths of the laundry basket, wash them and allow me the temporary use of a clean one.

Love, Cat

Is that weird? Yeah, our store has boxes.....we use the same one though. I think we've had 2 bigger ones that we've used...in over a year. We have a bigger box and a smaller one..and P loads them up..and there ya go.

I've never ever encountered the boxing of groceries in my life.  Huh.  Mind blown.

Where I used to shop in Humboldt, they'd put out the boxes in which merchandise was shipped to them out for us to use.  That was all they had in terms of "bags."

Dear npower woman on the other end of the phone,

OH MY GOD. You are so useless.

Cat.

Dear AT&T automated voice on the other end of the phone,

OH MY GOD. You are so useless.

I can't even verbally berate because you have no fucking idea what I am saying.

Lisa,

P always boxes our groceries. He's just quick about it, and walks over there with the box. Then, if the person is standing there, he says "I can do it." They say, "are you sure"..he's like "yeah..." ......and that's it! There's been an occasional time when the person like refuses to back away...but that's rare.

Don't be afraid, AC

I do this also. There's only one grocery store in my town and if I don't I will wind up with things in plastic bags in the bags I brought. Also, I usually ride my bike or walk, so I can balance things better if I do it myself. Don't be afraid, they'll probably be happy to let you do it.

And AC! I used to have a grocery box/crate thing. When I lived in Texas.

;)b I don't remember if I remember you telling me about when/where you lived in Texas, etc. I don't have the memory that you do.....refresh me. The only store that I know of that has boxes in TX is Sam's Club.

??? Really? You've never seen anyone with a box? You probably don't need a box b/c you don't buy that many foodz..but keep it in mind. Just don't neglect the GFS bag!  ;)

No, people don't do that at all where I've lived!

baypuppy, have you ever seen that?  Cali?  Other northeasters?

Well, I mean..it's not like a really common thing I don't think. They have boxes there on a big, long shelf...but I very rarely see other people using boxes. They usually have cloth bags or paper bags.

they have boxes at costco and sam's club

We have Sam's Club in NY, but my family always shopped at BJ's.  They do have old boxes at BJ's, but we never like used them to box up our groceries after shopping.  They were just for people to take for their own use.

Dear Interested Consumers,

oh, yah...
Back in Ioway, we had these Aldi food stores that sold mostly generic brand stuff at super low prices....like huge cans of black beans for 50 cents each, canned peaches for 33 cents each, knock-off Cheerios or Crispix type cereals for $2 a box....fresh produce was slim pickins in most of the stores (some exceptions), and they did occasionally have name brands here and there.

and the thing with Aldi was that they didn't have baggers, and you had to find boxes from around the store or bring your own bag/box. They did sell heavy duty plastic bags with the store label on them, so that was an option. Also, every Aldi's I've ever been to had this deal with their carts....each cart had a chain with a sort of key on the end of it, and a keyhole thingy next to that. One cart was plugged into the one in front of it by the key/keyhole, and you had to put a quarter into a slot by the chain to "unplug" the cart. Then when you returned the cart, plugged it back in, you got your quarter back.

Aldi stores around my area were frequented by the very poor or very old crowds, mostly. Many customers with odd smells and worn-out clothing. I used to dislike that as a kid, but I grew to understand it more later on...and appreciate the crazy low prices and lack of plastic bag waste.

we have Aldi's in TN too.  it's a great place to get lots of cheap stuff.  the produce is hit or miss, and you never know what random items they will have

Only recently did Costco start providing bags. All they had were boxes. Lots and lots and lots of boxes.

Boxes are sturdy but hard to carry. My jeans-bags are easy to carry but easy to overload and I have the sore shoulders and back to prove it.

Swings and roundabouts.  ;)

Yep, Aldi is good. I can't believe you hadn't encountered the trolley thing though! We get that quite a lot in the UK and often on the continent too :)
