Let's talk some more about tattoos, shall we?

I know we have threads, and I know we talk about them in different places, but......here we are.
Now that I just have touch ups left on my chest, I'm trying to decide what to get to cover up my little blip of a tat. on my hip. I think I want to get something that ties in with my chest piece.
eta: I deleted that creepy picture. It was just too creepy!
Should I send mine in? Its not vegan promoting but definitely part of my lifestyle as a whole...
To the vegantattoo site, or here?
Definitely post here, and you can try to send them in. Most are veg related, but ya never know.
Vegantattoo :) Just did, they accept tattoos on vegans....
Getting tattooed on the 7th! First time since, uh, four years ago. Wow.
For those of you with tats--did you make sure to get vegan ink? I've been seriously considering getting something, but I'm just not sure about the ink thing! What do you all think?

Yes! I actually chose the place that I went to because I heard one guy had vegan ink. I asked several questions about it, and he ended up getting allllll of his vegan colors out, and showing me. He was really pleased with the colors when he started using them. Just call and ask the place that you are interested in! They might even be interested in ordering some, if they don't already have it. I'm sure there are places that are all vegan, if you are in a large area.
My last one was done at Scapegoat Tattoo and its a completely vegan shop in Portland Oregon.
The place I go to only uses vegan ink, even though they aren't considered a vegan tattoo shop....
i just did a search last night for vegan tattoo shops in seattle. i found two people. one is an artist who has vegan inks available... but she does mostly portraits. they are all rather dull and not bright and exciting. the other is a guy who is a vegan so maybe he'd have vegan inks by default? but his tattoos look like biker tattoos.
not my taste. :(

Has anyone had a tattoo done over a scar?
big scar or scars in general? my lotus flower is over three small raised scars. they didn't affect the quality of the art. tattoo goo, however, did. :(
I have contemplated a tattoo over my knee scar but the cut nerve endings and the fact that its like ten inches long make it seem quite prohibitive. Sure one side is numb but the other side is hypersensitive and raw feeling. Plus I always figure I will get another (or three) scars in my lifetime there so any artwork could be mangled or lost due to another surgery.
I think if you have like a one time injury scar with minimal nerve damage it should be cool. Otherwise you are setting yourself up for a botched tat somewhere down the road.
Of course, I always try to place mine somewhere safe from sag or wrinkles too, maybe I am just paranoid?
Finally worked up the courage to show my design to the tattoo guy I want to do it... he doesn't like it and doesn't want to do it :(

Thats the rudest thing I've ever heard!
What an ass!
Will you share your design with us? I'm sure we'll love it....
The way it seems he told you is rather rude....However it isn't unheard of....Most of the decent and above tattoo artists are just that--ARTISTS. They have their niches, specialties, quirks etc. If an idea is/design isn't typical in their repertoire/to their taste, then it is likely they won't like it. However, if they don't feel like their skills/tastes are a good match with the idea the 'client' has in mind, they will typically direct the client to another, better suited artist.
I know several artists (of many medias) who, when meeting a client for the first time about a 'contracted job', have no problem saying no if it doesn't seem like a good match. If they don't want the money, it is their prerogative.
Theo, it just means you need to find another artist!! When i had my idea for my first tattoo, the first 2 places i went to were SO rude to me and thought my idea was stupid. I was with my then boyfriend and they loved his but didnt even care to ask me questions about mine, they just said a price and went back to talking to him and the one guy ignored me and got some one else to come tell me. But, the 3rd place i went to, the guy there (current tattoo guy still) was excited and he thought it was cool and asked me some questions and then gave me his portfolio to look at while he drew something really quick that was JUST what i wanted. And he didnt care much for my boyfriends, he talked to him about it but he was more into mine. (didnt even wind up getting that tattoo though, heh. but that guy did do the new version of it i thought up like a year later, its my ankle one)
Dont give up! Did you look at their portfolio first? Its good to do that, if they have a style thats close to what you want then you know that they'll like your idea and that they'll do something cool with it.
I mean, i if i didnt have my current tattoo guy after that quest of all the tattoo places in the area, i wouldve probably have A MILLION people telling me how stupid the idea for a platypus or artichoke were. But i'm sure you'll find some one extra cool thats wayy into your design!
Theo, that's not cool.
Was it a don't like it as in think it's crap or don't like it as in don't like it as a tattoo? It's hard, because a lot of what you can think looks awesome as pencil on paper just won't necessarily be able to be tranferred to ink on skin without losing a lot of impact. What size do you want it?
I do know of a fantastic studio with some amazing artists who do beautiful colour work etc, if you want a second opinion. I don't know if they use vegan inks though...

This is it, roughly :
As promised, here is the sketch of my planned tattoo (it will be drawn prettier, and coloured, and awesome... I drew this in a conference because I was bored):

Yea I understand he has his own way he wants to do it which is fair... he just made some assumptions and I felt a bit patronised really. I've been planning this tattoo since I was in high school, the elements of it haven't changed in 4 years so I KNOW it's what I want and have thought it through, but it's my first tattoo so he didn't take it very seriously. The problem is, of all the artists whose work I've seen in NZ, I like his the best. It's the closest suited to what I want it to look like... so I'm not sure what to do. Don't really want to change it completely (I'm fine to adjust it but not cut most of it out which is his view), and haven't seen any other work I like as much.
Thanks guys for your support and kindness! I'm over the upset (which was understandable, it's something very close to my heart that I have been designing for years and means a lot, and it took me a long time to work up the courage to show it to an artist) and am now thinking mor pragmatically about what I can do to make it work.
It's time I got this done, so I will keep thinking.
oww, which shop is it? :)
theo - Its beautiful! I don't understand why this guy had a problem with it?!?
Don't you dare change it! If its something you've had your heart set on for 4 years, you'll seriously regret it if you change the design just because some arrogant ass thinks his idea is better...DON'T SETTLE!
I can't understand why he wouldn't want to do it, it's very cool!
Theo, I think that's a really neat and original design and would love to see it with color. Can you explain what each symbol means? Not trying to be invasive though. Just curiouser and curiouser...
