My name's pretty easy -- 7 --I have seven children. However, some of the names here at vegweb are pretty thought provoking. How did you come to choose your name?

I hear you, idioglossia! The school psychologist was always telling my mother "Her peers will grow up to her"...and I always wondered, "Well, what do I do in the meantime??" Ben Jonson was right when he said that true friends consist not in their number, but in their worth and choice. 8)

Simple first name last initial. I wish I had some cool story but I like to keep it simple.

Good question!! I always like to findout how people come up with their handles! I also quiz people with kids how they came up with their kids names or who they named them after..
I came up with my handle while I was pregnant with my twins... hence K to the power of two. :D

Second Base is my DJ name. i play at local underground electronic music events and the occasional out of state gig. the way it came about is a bit inappropriate, so i'll just leave it at that :D

Alas! Secondbase--I was highly anticipating your answer, but it's the inappropriateness of it that initially sparked my curiousity. ;) Thanks.

Well, mine is pretty simple. I used to live in Chile (but now I live in small New Zealand, whoohoo!) and when I was little I used to live on a chicken farm and I was the only one who would not get attacked by the chickens come feeding and egg-stealing time (these were back in the days before I became vegetarian) so I developed a liking for chickens, live ones. Then people started getting me ornaments and chicken-related things for presents, then at high school I had chicken legs and so I got called chicken legs, and then that got shortened to Chicken. Even the teachers called me chicken! So yeah, thats where my username comes from.

uh..it's basically my screen name everywhere..I made it up one night..no idea if it actually means something... the 414, that's because a band that I like called Clutch has an album w/ Cavalry 414 on it..and sometimes just plain majicka is taken, and it's easier to remember for me than other # combos.

mine has a wee bit of a story to it, other than it is, obviously, my occupation: when people would come in for a tour of our fire stations or while giving fire safety talks to children at schools, many times i noticed the adults stumble around with what exactly to introduce me to their children as, since they were so used to saying "fireman." they would say "and here are the firemen!" then see me and fumble around with "uhh uhh, and the fire lady? fire woman? fire girl?," ("firefighter" doesn't come to mind so easily for many yet), all the while looking extremely uncomfortable and/or guilt-stricken. so in order to lessen their embarrassment and awkwardness i would laughingly interject "firefightress!" which always seems to make them laugh and feel at ease again, letting people feel i didn't take offense.
GlenEllen your comment made me laugh! my actual name is Tomina (pronounced Too mee nuh), and i have always heard either "oh you poor thing, you're parents wanted a boy, didn't they? (which they didn't- they had 4 boys and 5 girls total), or i'd hear "uhh, were your parents stoned???" ::) i have a twin sister named Bronwen, and all my 7 other siblings have unusual, different cultural names. (mine is a Norwegian family name, Bronwen is Welsh, and we have Irish, Celtic, old-English, French, etc names in our bunch.) made us feel unique though, even though we were very poor and didn't have much else to stand out about! ;)
Idioglossia, i always felt out of place with my age group, too.

Stories! Yay! Mine is my first intial, and my hubby always calls me Kitty, cause I'm a bit of a homebody, kind of sneaky, and somewhat reserved. 96 is for our anniversary, Sept. 6.

I am Jesse's Mum so that's how I came up with the name. I know it doesn't describe squat about me, other than my sons name but that's me. If I run into any of his friends, they always greet me with, 'Hi Jesse's Mum'.....to people my own age, I answer to alannabanana :D

NoIllusions
I have been trying to become a better person and let go of bad habits for the past few years. Better eating, treating others kindly, not being wasteful or impulsive and being mindful. In the last several months (I am recovering from a bad car accident) so many things happened to me and I started having things that helped me let go of some of my "illusions". Mind you, these were painful situations that "forced" me to come head to head with an erroneous mindstate.
Hence "No Illusions" is a state I am striving for. At least most of the time. Sometimes when I'm eating cookies I tell myself it is so good for me! ;D
