Anyone good with bugs?!

Okay so I bought some spinach yesterday and apperently I got more then just veggies because when I got to the BOTTOM of the bag today (thankfully I've only eaten like a handful of it) there is this really freaky and nasty smelling bug in there... STILL ALIVE! I need someone to help me identify it. I have a hard time believing its from anywhere around where I live, and I know it didn't crawl to the bottom of a sealed bag.

Its beige-tan colored has orange brown legs, 8 of them. It looks like it has a really hard "shell", but I'm not touching it. And its really funky shaped, almost like a triangle but not.

I threw the thing into a container and its sitting on my kitchen counter now. I really can't take a photo of it unless I let it out.. I was going to do that then it must have let off some sort of stink because I threw up in my sink shortly after. I got really nauseated and light headed after that.

I have like this fear of bugs, espcially one I've never seen. I did lots of googling and have no flippin clue what this thing is. I know one thing, I'm done with spinach for awhile, just EW!!!  >:( >:( >:(

Could be a brain eating tick...

If it has 8 legs it's an arachnid (spider) of some kind...but I've never heard of a stinky spider.
I'm glad I'm not there I'd be no help at all...unless you call screaming and cowering "helpful."

hey, is it anything like this? we have these around in Ontario. They're stink beetles. Not exactly this colour (ours are the same brown colour with some orangey stripes or spots) but there are different kinds I guess. Depending on where your spinach came from, it sounds like this is what it might be. i have no idea about the 8 leg thing though, are you sure 2 of them aren't antennae?

What are you worried about?

Just let the bug outside.

Just let the bug outside.

firstly, I'm worried about getting sick, secondly, I'll let it outside when i figure out what it is, and thirdly, are you scared of something? I mean really scared of something? what if I told you just to get over it, thats basically what you're telling me.  :(

I'm scared of two things, really bad thunderstorms and insects, not all insects, but most of them.

I say take it to a local university and show it to someone in the Biology department, they might be able to help you out (though call ahead first of course)

And I understand your fear of bugs (though mine is one in particular, it makes my skin crawl)

I don't get it.  You could set the container it's in outside for a while and it'd crawl out on it's own.  What's the advantage of letting it die in your house?  Depending on where the product was grown/packaged, it could be an insect in its larvae stage, which means that you may not be able to ID it by comparing pictures online.  Just let it out and you can both go your separate ways.

Why would you get sick? Even if you ate the bug, it's highly unlikely that you would get sick. I was just asking what you were worried about, I didn't say get over it. If you're just worried about getting sick, I don't think keeping the bug is going to make any difference.

the bug is not going to die within the next 2 hours, I want my husband to see it, I promise you it has air : ??? Just never mind, forget I ever started this post.

Now I'm really curious. I really want to know what it is.

This response isn't the information initially provided.  This is what we/I knew:

I threw the thing into a container and its sitting on my kitchen counter now. I really can't take a photo of it unless I let it out.

I'll let it outside when i figure out what it is

And that you tried, but couldn't figure out what it is.  There was no information provided that at the end of two hours you'd let it out, regardless of whether it was identified.

google banana spider.  Try also googling "leaf miner" maybe that's it.

Maybe a pseudoscorpion?

I don't think there are any insects with 8 legs, but I don't think there are any arachnids with antennae ??? Hmmm.

Interesting!  I'm sure it's harmless.  A bug won't kill you.  Bugs crawled all over your spinach before it was picked and washed.

A good solution might be to get the "bulk" spinach (non-packaged) next time and inspect it prior to buying.  No bugs!

I know exactly how you feel, Faylinameir. Hugz, honey. It will eventually be OK although right now I know the situation sucks major bigtime.
If it's any comfort (and it never is to me, but there)...you're way bigger than it is. It may not actually be able to see you, but if it did it would be just as scared.
