NO HERBS. THEY HAD THEIR TIME.

i didn't include the herbs of that list. i'm not including za'atar, because it's often a blend, or can refer to several herbs. Not sure about garlic/onion powder. I do consider it a spice, but since it was on the veg list, I'm wondering if other people want it here or not.

what say you, vegweb?

how is anise different to star anise?  I always thought they were the same...

YES I AM TOO LAZY TO GOOGLE.

Oww, I tried to post pics but my computer is being stupid.  Anise looks a bit like cumin, star anise is star shaped.  You'll have to do your own google image search if you want to see what I mean.  Or maybe someone else will be nice enough to post pics for you. :)

amchur/amchoor powder (dried green mango)
szechuan pepper
mustard seeds and/or powder
celery seed
dill seed
sumac

haha, I was lazy, but I was also impatient, so I already googled it : )
But do they taste different?  Or different enough that I should be concerned?

Celery seeds and sumac are already on the list.  And I guess mustard seeds are covered by 'mustard' ?

: )

They are similar tasting.

Oops, I swear those things weren't on the list when I suggested them.  :-[ At least I thought of one new one.

we did bay leaves in the herb one, right?

yes, bay is over and done with. so is laurel, in case sb again DOES NOT KNOW HERB/SPICE SYNONYMS.

onion seeds, hm?

At the risk of losing chili powder from the list, it is often a blend also (may include garlic powder, cumin, oregano).

I thought about that too, but it's such a huge spice (blend)..... however, in that case we should add curry powder and others......... maybe we just need to be sure to add all the base components for these blends.

I don't know the difference between herbs and spices but I am thinking SMOKED paprika (my new fave) and Saffron!!!

Well, if we aren't doing herbs, anise is apparently an "herb seed," as is caraway, celery seed, chervil is herb..did we do dill in herbs? so many of these are herbs. Take off celery seed, at least.

put "powder" for cumin and mustard. What about salt??  red pepper if that's not already on there.

I want to play but I'm confused!

Girl!!!!!!!!!!!! We've been playing these for months; back off the margaritas.  :-*

Once we finish this list, every spice will have 5 points. You copy the last post, add 1 point to a spice you want to win the spice game, and take 1 point away from a spice you don't like. You actually add or subtract 1 point from the spice numbers you are voting for. After we have finished voting and all the top spices are left, we will put them in a poll that 1 will win.

Here are the winners so far: http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=41205.0 We're planning to do like an iron chef type thing with all the winning foods after we're done with the games.

:ok!:

eta: but this spice game is still in the beginning stages, so that's why we are still creating the list, and talking about what to add.
