I just saw this article: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703734504575126040136069052.html
Vegan Frap's! Finally! Expensive but so delicious :)
Just in case you guys haven't heard, Starbucks is offering half-price Frappuccinos from May 7-16th between 3-5 pm. Check out the details: http://www.frappuccino.com/happy-hour
Thanks! I might have to stop in and see if they have the soy ones here!
I got a soy strawberries & creme yesterday. It was all right... I had this strawberry barista syrup at one time that i mixed with soymilk, and it pretty much tasted like that (even though their sauce has real strawberries), plus ice. I'm wondering what's in this new mix that's supposed to help the texture, because it was pretty much exactly like the "frappuccinos" I used to make by just subbing soymilk. It starts pretty melty and gets pretty icy towards the end, but I guess I'd be setting myself up for disappointment if I expected it to be like the dairy fraps they had before.
i had the strawberries and creme one too, but i really liked it! and then i had a caramel frap. yummy
haha, i was thinking about getting two yesterday when i went. i'm glad i didn't - i have a hard time just finishing a tall of everything. i wish they had 'short' for iced drinks, not just hot.
i'm probably going to go back a couple times next week. i think i'll try mocha, and then green tea (if they still have it... i didn't spot it on the menu last time)
I never drink/get coffee, but this is sounding good right now. Is it just a soy frappuccino, or is it called something else?
yeah, it's a soy frappuccino. the starbucks i went to actually had "soy strawberries & creme" listed, but you can get any of the other ones with soy. most can be made vegan, except the "chip" ones (I think), chai (honey in the syrup), and if you get the caramel frap you have to leave out the caramel sauce (the drink is still caramel flavored, though).
they have non-coffee ones:
strawberries & creme
matcha (green tea)
chocolate creme
vanilla bean
and you can get "creme" versions of the usual coffee flavors: caramel creme, cinnamon dolce creme, hazelnut creme, etc.
The Mocha Light frappucino with soymilk and no whipped cream is delicious! Just the right amount of sweetness, mocha flavor, soy milk and coffee blended to a perfect icey consistency.
My Starbucks has the "Soy Strawberries and Creme" too, and those packages of vegan cookies, which I have yet to try.
Yum!!! P got the mocha, and I had the soy strawberries and creme. When he asked for no whipped cream, she even randomly mentioned that the fraps don't have any dairy, now. I liked the strawberries and creme, but I liked his mocha better. I want to get more while they are half price. It was delicious! 2 for 3.8something. Yeah!
I've only gotten mocha. I love it too much to try a different kind.
Mochas what i got in pre-vegan days too. I think its the only frap I've ever had. Haha.
Aw, the deal is US & Canada only. I don't even know if they're vegan here... I want to find out so I can try it.

what do they do different to make them 'light' i thought i read that the light ones werent vegan. is the best thing to do to make a lighter vegan version just getting less sugary flavor pumps? or use the sugar free syrups?
this whole thing is too confusing to me. which is why if i have to get anything there it's usually an odwalla juice.
check it out - unfortunately the light ones arent vegan..

Yeah. Only normal and creme are vegan.
I got a mocha again today. I was going to get something else but I chickened out. Haha.
at least originally, the light ones were made light by using splenda + sugar. if it was something like a light caramel frap, it also got sugar-free caramel syrup instead of regular.
lights always came out icier anyway. the one that seemed like it had the worst texture was light coffee.
so, if you look at that site i linked fb - do you think the java chip ones are vegan now too?
Cripes. I thought the "Light" Mocha frapuccino was vegan. Thanks for letting me know that about the Mocha Light so I don't make this mistake again.
whooaa, this is pretty cool...so you could get a vegan vanilla bean frap? or a vegan strawberry frap?
I got the Strawberries and Cream one. It was really, really, runny. It was almost like they didn't put any ice in it. It was really weird. My friend got a soy mocha and it wasn't so runny. Maybe they just messed up.
they had loads of fraps to make when i went because of the deal, so maybe they were busy and messed up the proportions.
ppc, it looks like they are vegan now. hooray! when i started working there, they were vegan (and basically little chunks of semisweet chocolate), then they went non-vegan (coated cookie crumbs, containing milk solids), and it looks like now those weird coated crumbs are vegan. Sweet.
The caramel is good! I think it's my favorite. I'm excited about the chips!
