I just scored a....... (a thread about finding great deals!!!)

I  love to brag about how little I paid for something. Like my $2.00 boots, or $14 Tofurkey dinners. This thread is dedicated to all the good deals we find!  8-)

I just scored (2) three pound tubs of Earth Balance for $2.99!

At this gross discount grocery store which hardly has anything vegan, they had these HUGE ASS tubs of EB (commercial size?) for $2.99 each. I did not realize until I got home that she only charged me for one, and NO I did not go back to correct her error! It is sort of far away (now I'm sure karma will bite me in the ass at some point). But jeez.....6 pounds for 3 bucks! I need to take a picture so you can appreciate how large these are. They are bigger than my head.

Anyone else get any good deals lately?

i just got an 18ct box of assorted larabars for 5.49.  thats like 35cents a bar.

at this 99cent closeout store in brooklyn, i went there looking for my cheap peanut butter - all natural for like 1.79 but they were out.  the larabar find redeemed them.  they had lots of shampoo stuff too that was labeled as cruelty free and some even labeled 'no animal ingredients'.  and i got a nice smelling soy candle for 99cents.

they had like 3 full cases of the larabars, i wish i could send you all some!

May I ask what state you live in? I'm thinking about going to the local dollar stores, but was wondering how far the distance is between our stores.

I don't know if it looks as impressive as it felt, but we got a good haul from an asian supermarket last night:

onions, capsicums, brocolli , pears, green grapes, bananas, pak choy, 4 blocks of tofu and 1kg rice noodles for $18...

but was the broccoli as big as your head!?!

That reminds me of an amazing buy that theo got....so I'll brag on her behalf.  it was the biggest cabbage I have ever ever seen.  Like seriously bigger than my head.  It was so big it almost didn't fit into her shopping bag.  And it was a dollar!! (or maybe NZ$1.50).  Whatever, it was such a good buy.
But I'd never be able to use such a big cabbage before it went bad.

Aah, boo. I knew it was too good to be true. I doubt there would be anything super yummy at my dollar stores.

Thanks. I know nothing can replace  well-balanced meals, sleep and exercise.

I was just curious to see if anybody knew anything about them because I've been seeing them a lot more.

Chocolate rice milk for 88 cents. A large thingy of Rice divine for $3.50, but I didn't buy it. Kroger is great sometimes.

haha, pretty much!
I don't think we'd use that much cabbage either, but for $1, I'd probably try!

I don't know how much of an awesome deal it is, but I've been wanting a pressure cooker for ages, and any I have seen advertised are mad pricey.  I bought one off www.1-day.co.nz yesterday for $30, so fingers crossed it's awesome and I didn't buy a lemon!

I forgot....this week at another slightly less gross discount store, they had SO DELICIOUS COCONUT MILK yogurt for sale  (3 for ONE dollar). I got 9 the other day, and today I went and got 15 more. I can't fit any more in my fridge, or I would go back and clean them out. There is probably 30 more at the store....they will be mine if I can get the fridge cleaned out!

At my regular HFS these cost $1.99 EACH!!!!

My son is allergis to soy and he LOVES these. man i wish i could have gotten in on this.  they on ly have them on sale 1 for .99 and regualr is 1.99 as well

I've never seen food at a dollar store! I hate the midwest. I swear I'll save hundreds on food once I move to a real location. Or not, because then I might actually be able to eat at a restaurant, then I'd be broke again! :)

I went to the farmers market on Saturday and got the following for $15:
-1.5 lbs romaine lettuce
-bunch Swiss Chard
-1 quart strawberries
-7 pieces of rhubarb
-quart sugar snap peas
-bunch green onions

I went to our co-op on Saturday and got Dr. Bronner soaps for $2.79 a piece. I was so jacked I bought the last 4. I also got a pound of organic spinach for $6--I think that's not too bad.

so we ventured to the chinese supermarket today and got for NZ$17 (~US$11 or ~GB£8 or ~EUR9):

a litre of 'fresh' soymilk ($2), some wonton wrappers, a big block of 'fresh' tofu, vegetarian 'mince', big bottle of soy sauce, hoi sin sauce, fried tofu (just enough for me and N - and half the price of stuff I saw in the UK).

I haven't tried the soymilk yet, but I'm erally excited to try it.  If it's good then they have 2 L bottle for (I think) just over 3 dollars.
I am also excited to try the tofu.  it says it's 'fresh' so I have no idea what that means!!

so pleased you finally hit up the asian shops!  I love getting cheap deals from the ones near us, we never buy soy sauce/tofu/hoisin/rice/noodles/oils from the regular supermarket anymore, they're so much cheaper!

I keep meaning to try one of those fresh soy milks and not getting round to it though, so you'll have to let us know what you think.  My husband has mentioned that if he starts using soy milk we'll have to start buying the 2l ones because he goes through heaps more than I do : )

I am desperately  keen to finish up my Vitasoy.....I've never really got on with it.  Even though it says that there's no added sugar it still tastes sweet/weird to me.  I got the unsweetened fresh soymilk - just soy beans and water.....I have high hopes so I think I'll be disappointed.
