Raw Chit-Chat!
Hi everyone!
I'm planning on going raw for the entire month of August and I thought it would be great if we had a raw chit chat spot! I know a lot of other vegwebbers have expressed interest in either eating raw or going raw--so maybe we can help each other out here! I'm a total noob when if comes to raw, but I'm hoping my 30 day experiment will turn me into a master class raw veganist! I will be blogging everyday during August and posting pics and recipes of what I am eating--should be some great stuff plus all the "Raw Blogs" will be public!
I already have a bunch of questions! Can anyone help?
Raw milk--are there any store brands out there or do I have to make my own? Any super simple recipes for nut milk?
Dried sea weed (like wakame) how long do you soak it for?
I don't have a dehydrator and 150 is the lowest setting on my oven--how can I dry/toast oats, etc. and still have them be raw?
How the heck do I make sun tea?
OK then! That's what I got for now--I hope this can be a great place for raw info!!!

I read else that they are not edible in natural form and therefor "cured".
Guess its up to raw discretion weather or not to include them in the diet.
I dont know much about the raw olives that are available, but they sure make me hungry for them.
This is from http://www.living-foods.com/articles/rawornot.html
"Olives - You may want to consume some raw olives. Raw olives are hard to find. The best raw olives are sun dried raw olives, that have not been preserved with salt. Most olives are preserved with salt. Most canned olives are cooked in the canning process. Most olives are packed in a vinegar or lactic acid brine, which I do not recommend."
Groovy, thanks for the link/info., ec. I got my olives from goneraw.com. They really weren't as expensive as I thought they would be. Not cheap either, mind you.
So the Claussens: calcium chloride, sodium benzoate, & polysorbate 80....http://bestsmileys.com/sick/9.gif
I'm nomming a juicy juicy mango and drinking some apple cider vinegar (in water of course).
I Missed you all soooooo much!!!! <3 I'm back home from my little jaunt up north <3 it was fun--but it's nice to be back home for a couple more weeks before I leave for Washington! What did I miss while I was gone??

Same here Storm--I could take a salad picture everyday...but it gets pretty boring *lol*
*Yawns* Man! I am stilllllll not sleeping very well--I feel like my sleep is concentrated--like I get 4 solid hours of sleep and then I'm up again for another 20...blerg--
How are you doing with your sleep Storm? And have you heard anything about Jack yet?????????
Jack's biopsy was negative! I've been doing the Snoopy Dance all morning. He was so very relieved, but he felt badly at the same time because there were three other men in for their biopsy results yesterday afternoon and Jack was the only one who got good news. One man was so far advanced that they can't help him, he has very little time left. The other two men got positive results for cancer and both will have to have radical prostatectomys.
Storm, I did not see the olives on gone.com but did find them on www.rawganique.com
I thought they would be insanely expensive, but not the case. I do feel weird ordering and shipping foods as I feel shipping is frowned upon. I'd love to move somewhere where I could grow olives.
mmm pickling.

I am a giant bonehead. I meant rawguru.com, not goneraw.com.
*facepalm*

No worries xo.
Are they really divine?
Oh dear.... "This is the best nut milk bag ever! This is a reusable nylon bag with a drawstring. Very sturdy with a fine mesh.
This nut milk bag is very useful for individual or up to two portions of nut-milk or juice and for sprouting in modest quantities. A must for a raw food kitchen!"
Hey Storm! That is such great news about Jack!!! I am so glad that he is all right!!! Does this mean he will be winging his way down to Florida soon?? I hope sooooooo!!!
Mmmmmm! Pickles! <3

Most definitely! I got the raw dried Greek olives and the Kalamata Style from Raw Earth Organics. I've only tried the Kalamata Style so far and they are awesome.
Geez, where is everybody?
Now I'm here all alone.......double posting and talking to myself. :'(
Hi y'all!! I've been doing great incorporating more raw meals into my diet. I eat a raw/high raw breakfast every day and usually do all or nearly all raw days about 3 days a week. I feel really good, but I would like to do a cleanse. I have some bad habits I'd like to break (eating when I'm not hungry, overeating, eating sweets after meals, etc.) I've never done one before. What I want to try is a 3-day juice cleanse. I need some advice...anyone have any recommended plans? Books, blogs, etc.? I just don't want to do any harm to myself by not consuming the right kinds of juices or something. And is 3 days enough to do any good? I don't want to do longer only because I'm lazy and I don't want to be doing a cleanse for myself and also trying to feed my non-cleansing husband. ::)
I am digging my maine coast sea veggies...

Awwwww! Sorry Storm! I don't have much to say these days--my raw is pretty lame--just fruits, veggies, salads, and smoothies. Also--I am probably at 50/50 raw/cooked--living w/o my raw appliance is hard and I have breakfast/brunch/lunch/dinner/snack invites left and right--seems everyone wants to break bread with me before I get out of town. And honestly--I am happy to be eating lovely food with friends.
If you are sick of talking to yourself you should call or text meeeeeee! I will entertain you <3
Is Capture offering a song and a dance?
Cauliflower was 1$ a head at the indian market!
Blended up cauliflower, mint, jalapeno, lemongrass powder, coconut milk (from the can, is that raw?) and salt.

I've done a couple of these before but never with a set plan. Three days is pretty standard, I believe. The only thing I can warn about is that if you're juicing beets you should always combine them with other fruits or vegetables. Straight beet juice is not recommended and I cannot for the life of me recall where I read that. I'll see if I can find it.

Oh, awesome, thanks Storm!! Yeah I think I'd heard something about beet juice...like it really taxes your liver or something because it is so potent. I'll be careful...thanks again! I think I'm going to do it next Friday, Saturday, Sunday...
HEY BITCHES.....and ec! What were we doing on page 2? Where have all the raw foodists gone?
I spent most of my Saturday doing raw prep for the week. I finally gave up my boycott of raw nut butters and sheeze and made a big vat of Macadamia & Cashew alfredo sauce for my zucchini spaghetti.....nom! I prepped 5 trays of flax crackers and made some of Juliano's firewater using red savinas. I'm telling you, that stuff will kick you right in the pants in the morning! I have so many red savinas and orange habaneros I also made some truly volcanic gazpacho. I think I'll post that for the raw chileheads once I come up with a catchy name for it. Based on my overabundance of chiles I also made the biggest bottle of hot sauce ever! Not raw of course, but 64 oz. of hell in a bottle! I do so love my chile peppers!
