Fitness Apparel

Does anyone else have problems finding good quality AND affordable fitness apparel??

I'd like to look nice while working out and have appropriate functionality.  Meaning I want moisture wicking, non-chaffing, stays puts and gives support in all the right areas without breaking the bank clothing.

Is that too much to ask?!  Where do you shop and what brands do think are great?

i agree. all my workout clothes are crap. but they were cheap. sigh.

Meh.  How do you not get all soggy??  Or, am I the only sweater?

I just buy the 5-packs of the hanes men tshirts.  I also wear two sports bras.  I do get pretty sweaty.  I'd like to hear if anyone has anything good to suggest as well.  But I'm not willing to spend that much money on something that will get all smelly and sweaty.

i do get sweaty, but i figure i'm working out, so oh well?

i do have actual bike clothes, though...

Do you have a brand that you like, but don't get because it's expensive? I suggest eBay!

I have an old cotton shirt with a band logo on it that faded off years ago. I also have some sweatpants cut off into shorts. I wear this when I work out. I never wash it. Ever. It stinks really bad, but it's really f'ing manly. I don't like people bothering me when I work out, and my super-stinky attire helps to achieve my goal of being left alone when I lift. Also, I yell really loud. This keeps people at bay as well.

When I run, I wear a pair of medium dolphin shorts (even though I should be wearing a pair of large or XXL shorts). I am quite proud of my shapely buttocks, and enjoy giving passersby something delightful to look at as I run by.

You don't want to know what I wear when I go swimming.

OMG, please don't yell when you work out.  Most annoying thing you can do at the gym!
I'm sure people do leave you alone with a bacterial breeding ground on your back....

Shea, I'll have to check thrift stores.  That's a good idea.

Ditto.

I try looking at Ross, Marshalls and Kohls.  Sometimes I get really lucky and find good deals on stuff.  Admittedly, I am a Nike clothing whore.  I really like the way their stuff fits real women's bodies.  I've been known to habitually check their "Last Chance Clearance" section.

Also, check out the children's section of thrift stores, sometimes the really cute, tight shirts and short shorts are accidentally placed there.

Hahaha!  As if my ass (or any other part of me for that matter) would fit into kid's clothing! :-D

Yelling puts me in touch with my inner animal (my power animal is an ostrich), and increases my lifts by 5-12%. I will never stop yelling. You should totally try it.

I also hate the music they play at the gym, so I bring my own boombox. It takes 20 D batteries, so it gets more than  loud enough to hear over the gym's stereo.

I've also been experimenting with bringing my blender into the gym with me, so I can get my post-workout protein shake on board within mere seconds of my workout ending. It makes a mess (the lid doesn't fit right), but I figure I'm paying them to keep the place clean, so they can clean it up.

But back to the main point of the thread: I'm saving up to buy a wrestling singlet to workout in. I figure the absence of sleeves and the extra-short shorts will allow for a greater unrestricted range of motion, and increase my lifts by another 3%.

I just got a great deal on some workout clothes from the thrift store. Just be careful what you by. Some of that stuff can be kind of gross.

any of the ladies have good suggestions for very supportive workout bras for bigger sizes.  I wear a 38 DD, and other than wearing 2 or even 3 bras at one time, and all that does is squish the girls, not very comfy, I have stopped running because it HURTS when every thing bounces.

It seems like most sports bras out there just squish, and I need support.

I swim and do elliptical, but I miss the running, the pounding on the pavement helps me get the stress out.

GFV - I don't know this from personal experience, but several of my yoga students have said that Athleta has great sports bras for all sizes and activities.  That being said, I know their stuff is UBER-expensive and I've never personally ordered from them since I'm so small busted that I don't need a whole lot of support  :P

Hope that helps!

I like Moving Comfort's bras.  They are a little pricey, but they havr great sales sometimes and I've been able to find them at Ross for like $10.00.

TJMAXX is pretty good. I get almost all my workout pants there, and they are usually $15 or less. They have pretty cheap shirts and such too. I also get some gym shoes there for $30, give or take,
Sports Bras I get in packs from Costco

I usually get my stuff at Target, Ross, or Beall's Outlet.  I need to go cuz today during my run my pants were falling off the whole time and I was running with my hands holding my pants.  I really like Nike for pants and Champion or Adidas for shorts.  I've never tried Reebox but, I love there walking shoes.  Does anyone know of some good running shoes for underpronators?  I have some UnderArmour shoes that I love but, I kinda wanna try some new shoes and it's about time I buy some  new ones.

I buy most of my new stuff at Target--they carry Champion brand which has a moisture-wick line and they go on sale every now and then.  Once you know the size you wear in Champion, you can sometimes find it on Ebay for a bit less.

I really like Saucony shoes.  You can refine your search on their site by pronation type and then shop for them on Zappos, where you can return shoes with free (to you) shipping if they don't work.

At the gym:  I like Target's five buck cotton men's tees.  They also have straight black sleep pants that I like.  Women's pants seem to lack pockets and I need at least one pocket, so I get the men's sleep pants and sew up the hole.  The plus is that they're less expensive.

Outdoor:  North Face (followed by Arc'Teryx) clothes.
