nose piercings: yay or nay?

Soooooo I've wanted to get my nose pierced with a teeny tiny stud since about middle school.
I think they're so cute.
Do any of you have your nose pierced? Good idea? Bad idea? Cute? Ugly? Thoughts?
I just worry about coming to a point in my life where I don't want it anymore, like a really important job or....my wedding day.....etc. I hear it will close up on its own, but still.
:-\
I got my nose pierced like 4 years ago.. and of course regretted it later when I noticed every frat chick and her bff had one. I'm never too quick to get on the ol' trend wagon at the right time.. but then I got over it because alot of people told me they liked it or just never noticed it. At the time I got it, my (Indian) boyfriend was slightly opposed since he claimed that "white girls don't look good with them".. but I think he came around eventually anyway. Now it's just part of my face.. and I can't imagine not having it.
I also get to try new things often, like bigger studs, rings, etc.. when I feel like a change. I agree it's a little "too trendy," but honestly, it's no lower-back tattoo - those have really seen their day come and go.
If you need to hide your piercing, consider getting clear studs, available about anywhere, that just sit in like a regular stud, but are practically invisible (as long as your piercing isn't too huge).
In sum.. If you really want it - get it! The very worst that could happen is that it's soooo trendy that no one will notice it. I doubt very much you'll run into professional troubles unless you become president of Concerned Women for America or something ;)

Awww....I love my lower back tattoo :'(

Psssssh, lotus, you transcend the trendiness of the lower back tattoo, I am sure. You are veg*n so everything you do is slightly more cool than what everyone else does by definition. :)
As far as trendiness goes for nose piercings....yeah, they are trendy here at my school as well, but I guess I am not so concerned about that. I have liked them for long enough that I do feel like it is something I want for me as a reflection of my own tastes/personality than to be trendy. I don't really pay attention that much to trends. If I like something and it is trendy, I go for it. Same if it isn't. Whatever.
I guess I am more inclined to go for it because a nose piercing really isn't that permanent. I used to struggle with acne a lot, and I have scars on my face that are way more noticeable than any little hole from a piercing would be. Worse comes to worse, I take it out. No big deal.
You all make really good points! Oh, indecision.....
Oh man. All this talk of piercings totally makes me miss my labret piercing I had to take out. :waa: I say get it. If you're in a position where you need to look professional for a job or what have you, you can always take it out. At least you wouldn't have to regret never trying it!
I had it done for years but took it out it awhile back. I say go for it. And my scar is really tiny. Do what makes you happy :D
Aww, come on, I've always wanted to get my forehead pierced!
:P
ok, i might be the total odd ball here, but i really don't like piercings of any kind. don't get me wrong, do what you want, but i just can't get over the thought that it's self-mutilation for the sake of vanity. it's not a consumer-brainwashed-by-anorexic-actress-image kind of vanity because it's been done all over the world for centuries, but i see no difference in the african tribes woman with a disc in her slit lip and having studs in your ears. it's not so extreme, but it's with the same "beauty" intentions i think.
i guess that's where the old adage about beauty and beholding eyes comes in... ::)
and, oh god, that image will haunt my sleep for days :o
Hey Girl,
I completely share the fantasy, actually I live in New Zealand and it's legal without having to signa whole bunch of forms so I got it done the other day. If they ask you want the needle not the gun, the gun just makes a larger hole and the worst thing is you can decide you don't like it and take it out, in which case it'll grow back and be unoticeable (it already is hard to notice when I takemine out or even when I have mine in for that matter). I say go for it and I was totally freaked out but it doesn't hurt.
I just got my cartlege pierced like a month ago. Piercings are pretty shweet... as long as you don't go too far with them.
I find them unattractive.
so did you decide?
I myself am more into tattoos than piercings but as many have said, it's ultimately what feels right for you. Nose studs are also becoming less of a taboo so I doubt that you'll be scrutinized if you wear a classy jewel or something. I also think nose piercings can look good on the right nose and/or with the right jewelry, while other piercings I just don't understand (I won't list here in case people have the piercings I'm thinking of, hee hee).
And I'm with propinecone - what did you decide? Post pics! :)

Yeah. If you want it, do it! And don't worry about what a couple of boys think. They don't know.
But I agree with FSR. Pics?
Yup, I did it! I absolutely adore my new piercing. It's so cute and tiny and makes me :smileteeth: x 25.
I went with the needle, not the gun, like many of you said, because I have also heard from others that it's better. In fact, the guy didn't even give me the option of a gun. Needle is the way to do it. And it hardly hurt at all, though I am pretty tolerant of pain. The hole is so tiny, and there is no bump/raised area or anything like that. You can't even see it if the jewel isn't in there, like Sassyjac3 says. And it will heal over if/when I decide I don't want it anymore. Yay. ;)b
I've gotten a bunch of compliments about it, which is nice. Most people think it suits me. There is the odd conservative friend who says, "Oh nice *fake smile*" but ya know, I can tell they don't like it on principle. Which was expected. Anyway I like it so much that I honestly wouldn't care if someone came up to me and said, "Dude, you ruined your face."
The only pic I have is a lame take-a-picture-of-myself-so-I-can-show-people shot, but since you all were so helpful, I suppose I can post that:

Yeah, you probably can't even see it, but there she is.....
I still haven't told my mom about it yet. I figure it's just better for her to find out in time and realize that I've had it for a while and, hey, look at that, the world didn't explode! She's kind of conservative about such things. One time I told her I was gonna dye my hair more of a honey blonde and she flipped out and said how "disappointed" she was in me. Still don't really get that one. I think she will come around eventually, I just don't want to deal with the drama right now.
So yeah, I give the piercing a :)>>>, :ok!:, :w00t!:, and a puppy ::puppy: . Just 'cuz.
Thanks everyone for the input!
KMK
Super cute, KMK!!!
Yay, pics!
And I am so glad it makes you happy. That's all that matters!

Ditto . . . but if I didn't know better, I'd want to buy you a tube of Clearsil! That's just me probably. :D I've seen a lot worse ones, though. To quote Ms. Crow, "If it makes you happy, it can't be all bad." ;)
That looks super cute, KMK! 8-)

Insult! Personal attack! Banishment! Banishment!
I'm SO kidding, TT. Couldn't resist taking advantage of the charged political climate around here. :devilwink:
Indeed, to each his her own :)
