"expired" morning star sausage crumbles - still good?

Typically I don't ask if "expired" things are still good, I know for a lot of stuff the best if used by dates are merely suggestions however I figured I'd ask. I have a package of the old style (100% vegan) morning star sausage crumbles in a bag. This thing has been in my freezer probably close to 2 1/2-3 years now. On the package is says "best if used by Jun 02 10" and seeing as how its 5/17/11 I'm not sure if I wanna use it, but I don't agree with wasting food. Whats your opinion? ???
I wouldn't eat it. It sounds like it's wayyyyy past it's time. Are you sure it's not freezer burnt?

not really, just the normal amount of ice as if I just bought it. Then again I was always told freezer burn isn't harmful so I don't really pay attention to it LOL
i'd eat it. it's been in the freezer, it's fine :D
i'd eat it, but cautiously. like i'd have a box of imodium on hand. :D

Let it defrost and if it's slimey, dump it. If not, EAT THAT SHIT.

I wouldn't eat it...but then again I have the stomach of an 85 year old.
If it has been in the freezer and the freezer has maintained a temp of about 0 deg. F, it is safe. Now quality will deteriorate on any product in 6-12 months. So, is should not make you sick but may not taste as good as it should or have the right texture any more. Also, home freezers are not capable of "flash freezing" so large ice crystals form in items messing up the texture from day one.
Defrost it and see how it looks, smells, etc. If it seems okay, you can get around the degradation of taste and texture by making it into chili or something :)
double dog dare ya..
I defrosted it and it looked and smelled fine to me however the husband told me it didn't smell right to him, and he made me toss it =(
booooooooooo.
but i'm gross. i probably would have eaten it either way

My boyfriend is the same way. I don't let him smell things anymore, I just cook them! We haven't had any food poisoning... yet.

That's why I don't take chances anymore. I got food poisoning twice eating somewhat questionable items.
Damn, I would have eaten it anyway!
Not to mention that stuff is worth gold now that they added eggs to the new version.
I'm with your hubby and would have erred on the side of caution. I am very picky about expiration dates.
I found my old Morningstar crumbles a little while ago that were about as old. They were SO GROSS. And I was sooooooooooo bummed.

I suppose so, i remember that at the time I purchased them I was almost insanely strict vegan (it drove most of my family crazy) when I read a forum post here about how they weren't vegan anymore I rushed out and purchased like 10 packages, then I started to develope issues with eating faux meat products (soy started to make my anxiety X10 worse) so this one stayed in my freezer, and I kept saying "someone will eat it"... well obviously 3 years later or whatever no one did LOL I would eat the new recipe too because I eat eggs, but I don't buy these types of products anymore, I just make my own tofu.
