I freaking hate Daiya.

I went to an all Vegetarian/Vegan restaurant the other day, and got so excited because they had vegan cheese available for their veggie burger. Turns out it was my arch nemesis, Daiya! I was so disappointed, and tried to look discreet as I scraped it off my burger...
Daiya mozzarella is the most disgusting vegan product I've ever had. I was wondering if anyone else felt the same. A lot of vegwebbers seem to love the stuff, but I think it's terrible, in any flavor. Period.
As far as the mozz daiya on pizza, I've found that a little goes a long way. Just lightly sprinkle it with lots of veggies all around and it works beautifully. Too much and it tastes too fake/processed.
I agree completely. But then, I can't be trusted because I use jarred pasta sauce.
WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?!
WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?!
I can't speak for the others but I am LAZY!
I've never tried Daiya and am not likely to ever get the opportunity to...
what recipe do you use for pasta sauce? i think i tried one of Isa's and it was too bitter for me or something... outta VWAV or Vcon, can't remember
tomatoes, herbs, onion, garlic, go!
I would definitely not use bottled sauce, but that's as much me being a cheaparse as it is anything else...
I use a family recipe for pasta sauce. I never ate jarred sauce growing up. Whenever we had pasta (couple times a week growing up), mom always spent all day cooking the sauce.
Ohhhhhh aren't you mister fancy pants?
Here in the Normal World there are such things as good jarred pasta sauce (Ragu is not one of them. They are also owned by Unilever, who tests on animals :boooo:). The roasted garlic tomato sauce from TJs is good, as is the marinara. I've made my own sauce from scratch, but generally I think it's not worth the effort and not a good use of tasty tasty ripe tomatoes (those are better eaten raw, in bruschetta!) So,
Refusing jarred pasta sauce? Do you eat nothing premade or jarred? Are all your sauces made with fresh tomatoes? 'Caaaauuuse if you use canned ones or tomato paste, then that's practically the same thing XP
Do you make your own jam?
Peanut butter?
Pickles?
Everything?
BITCH, PLEASE.

Is your family Italian? My boyfriend's mother is of Italian descent, and it's the same story in his family. He occasionally uses jarred sauce, but he would deny it completely in front of extended family. They call people who make their own sauce "peckerwood," which best I can tell just means "not Italian." But they use that term to refer to everything that's done improperly or lazily. His mom made a huge batch of sauce every Sunday when he was growing up so they could eat it all week... full of about six different kinds of meat, by the way... Now when we visit, she makes a whole separate pot of sauce that's full of veggies just specially for me. :)>>>
I've had some of the best marinara sauces ever made, and they just don't taste that much different to me. I'm a snob about alot of things but I couldn't care less if my sauce is from a jar or not.

Yes, my mom's mother is Italian. My great grandmother, who immigrated from Italy, went blind in her old age and taught my mom how to cook when she was a young girl. Needless to say, I'm kind of an Italian food snob! I always hated the meat sauces, and we were poor growing up so she would make mushroom sauce instead, which we all loved. Nothing like a marinara made from tomatoes that grow in your garden a huge loaf of bread sitting in the center of the table.

Same. Pasta sauce in a jar is one of those things I let slide. I don't have the time nor the patience to make my own sauce.
Jarred pasta sauce tastes so fake! and sweet! It tastes... jarred!. Bunch of weirdos, all of you.
WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?!
I rarely use it, in fact I think I have a half a jar rotting in the frige right now. But like processed veggie burgers, some things like this are good after a 12-hour shift.
"you people"??? You can't say that around here...racist.
I make a huge batch in bulk and freeze the shit out of it. Tastes so much better than jarred sauce after a 12-hour shift.
I like my sauce sweet! Even when I have made my own sauce, I always add sugar. I get it from my dad.
I like my sauce sweet too, that's how my grandma made it. Everybody always raved about her sauce, but honestly, I like cheap jar sauce just as well.
I add a little sugar (agave) to mine too. Mom always used honey, but the sauce wasn't as sweet as the jarred stuff. Lubes, I'll have to invite you over for a pasta dinner some time. We'll get down oldschool Italian style.

Me too. Jarred sauces are sucky and I love making my own anyway. Now, aren't we supposed to be talking about Daiya?
Let's talk about Daiya. I made pizza with daiya last night, and it was delicious. Granted, I think my homemade pesto, crust, and sauce were truly the star!

That's actually what I do. Last sauce I made was from "Vegan on the Cheap" and I froze what I didn't use precisely for those times after a long shift to use. I hate jarred sauce and always 100% of the time doctor it up with something if I use it. I don't actually eat a lot of red sauce meals come to think of it..fresh or jarred.
i really like the pepperjack daiya.
but i think it's best used lightly, as too much is too goopy and gross texture-wise.
i hope they come up with more flavors!
