I freaking hate Daiya.

I went to an all Vegetarian/Vegan restaurant the other day, and got so excited because they had vegan cheese available for their veggie burger. Turns out it was my arch nemesis, Daiya! I was so disappointed, and tried to look discreet as I scraped it off my burger...

Daiya mozzarella is the most disgusting vegan product I've ever had. I was wondering if anyone else felt the same. A lot of vegwebbers seem to love the stuff,  but I think it's terrible, in any flavor. Period.

From an environmental standpoint, palm oil IS a problem... not as big a problem as meat and dairy, but I'd be glad to get to a point where I could avoid it altogether-- damn Earth Balance! :-P

Def'ly agree w/ AML, though, about how the snide tones of 'you're a hypocrite if you do this/ don't do that & think you're doing good' are stupid and unproductive... palm oil is still not nearly as destructive as meat/ dairy agribusiness: less harm is better than more harm, duh.

Yeah that.  Well said.

I don't use it often, but when I'm in the mood for things like burritoes, mac & cheese or pizza it's pretty much the best option out there.  Definitely best eaten in small doses.

I keep mine in the freezer and only get out enough for one serving at a time.  A bag lasts me a long time.

true words me too!

made a pizza today, cooked it at 400 for a little then once i saw the daiya begin to melt broiled it and kept checking so i wouldn't burn it... cooked then broiled is the only way i like daiya

when making a pizza, if you brush the top of the cheese with olive oil, it melts even better

i usually don't go all out with a real pizza per say... i just buy some french bread, spread some ragu add a few veggies and top with daiya... bake it for like 10 mins or less at 400 then broil it like a minute... so easy!

I'd just love the chance to even try this. I don't even think my health food store can order this in for me, I know I can't order it from overseas *cry* I want some faux cheesy goodness!

Amy, I know you did not just suggest that I used JARRED pasta sauce. I am going to pretend that you didn't, for the good of your well being.

This is what I do with leftover too...spread some sauce on a wrap, one of those small round breads, or even toast...top with the cheese and microwave.

(SB, we're just saying what we do....we'd never suggest that you use jarred sauce....horrors!)

i tried the mozzarella on pizza and it was a total waste. the taste was overwhelmingly awful (for me, anyway). a couple weeks ago i had a huge craving for cheddar cheese and potato pierogi and bought the stuff again and it was delicious. i guess it depends on what/how you use it. i won't be buying daiya often, but when those pierogi cravings kick in i won't have a choice. ;)

Bitch, nothing can save our friendship. Jarred pasta sauce is a crime against humanity and anyone (read: everyone) who uses it cannot be trusted.

I made pierogis the other day! They were without daiya, but that would be a good use for it. As far as the mozz daiya on pizza, I've found that a little goes a long way. Just lightly sprinkle it with lots of veggies all around and it works beautifully. Too much and it tastes too fake/processed.
