Hello Awesome People Who Know VegWeb Best!
As I'm getting to know the site and learning as much as I can, I thought I'd take a moment to get opinions on any changes you'd like to see. What do you like? Love? Want to throw out a window? Anything and everything! It's obvious the community is active and vibrant and so I KNOW you have some opinions! Let's hear 'em!
If you're feeling shy or don't want to post in a thread, feel free to email me at eval(unescape('%64%6f%63%75%6d%65%6e%74%2e%77%72%69%74%65%28%27%3c%61%20%68%72%65%66%3d%22%6d%61%69%6c%74%6f%3a%6c%61%75%72%61%40%76%65%67%77%65%62%2e%63%6f%6d%22%3e%6c%61%75%72%61%40%76%65%67%77%65%62%2e%63%6f%6d%3c%2f%61%3e%27%29%3b')).
Thanks!!

Hey All!
Thank you for the fabulous suggestions! We are logging all of them and putting many into action as I type! Sorry for the delay, sometimes even small things on a site as large as VegWeb, can take a little while. Just know that we are reading all of your comments and taking them all seriously!
Specifically, we are working on refining the search, tagging recipes, a cookbook (!) (carrot_wench, if you are too, please shoot me an email!), and many other things!
Blonde Veg-Head, thank you for your kind words, totally made my day! I'm so happy you love VegWeb!
Okay, thanks to all, and happy holidays, and please keep the wonderful ideas coming!

Wow... what a job you guys have! 28 pages of suggestions! Great job on all the changes that have been made so far, and thank you for making the effort to incorporate all of our ideas to make this site better. You all are very much appreciated. :)
Something to include in the better search function: A way to search the posts of someone who is no longer a member. I'd like to look at all of the recipes submitted by mangomamma, but I can't.
Would it be difficult to make the search, um, quotable? I mean, to search for exact words or phrases using quotation marks, like in many other searches. And adding/excluding search terms with - and +.

I noticed that all of mangomamma's recipes in the New Recipe Queue had a five-star rating. I did a google search for vegweb recipes posted by mangomamma and all of her recipes are rated five stars. I don't know what can be done with the rating system check-and-balance-wise, but we need more disclosure about who rated what so we can make our money, time, and food decisions wisely.

For people who are frustrated with vegweb's search function to find the recipe for which you know the name, use google's advanced search.
Let's say you wanted to find LucidAnne's :)>>> Award Winning Cocoa Apple Cake.
1. Go to google's homepage.
2. Select "Advanced Search" link, which is located next to the search criteria text box.
3. In the "Find web pages that have... all these words:" text box, type "Award Winning Cocoa Apple Cake"
4. In the "Need more tools? Search within a site or domain:" text box, type "vegweb.com"
5. Select the "Advanced Search" button to perform the search.
The recipe with be at the top of the results page.
(Use the same method if you're looking for recipes with a particular ingredient.)
Thank you HH. I'm a person who needs techno things spelled out in words of one letter. :)>>>
You're mighty welcome! It took me long enough to think of using google to search vegweb.
i would like whoever moves the recipes from the new recipe queue to where they belong to ask first before changing ingredients, directions, and measurements... only because 2 of mine (that i have noticed) get changed to the point where they aren't even the same :(
such as pico de gallo seasoning is not even remotely similar to chili powder in taste
I have another problem with the search (unless there's some crazy trick i haven't figured out)
When you search for something in the forums and you know its buried in a thread such as the aimless chit chat thread. It will tell you the date of the post on the search, but if you click on it, it takes you to the first page! So you have to go through so many pages to find it. Shouldn't it link you to the exact post? I feel like it used to do that but doesn't anymore.
just wondering... is the search gonna get fixed? it seems to be actually worse than before... i put exactly what i want in " " and don't get what i am looking for... maybe i am tech challenged which wouldn't be that surprising... if so explain it to me!
amymylove - Please email me if you have an issue with a recipe being changed...I'm more than happy to rework things! Sometimes we have to rename ingredients if they're too specific so that people will know what they are. However, if there is a huge mistake like that, please let me know! You can email me at eval(unescape('%64%6f%63%75%6d%65%6e%74%2e%77%72%69%74%65%28%27%3c%61%20%68%72%65%66%3d%22%6d%61%69%6c%74%6f%3a%6c%61%75%72%61%40%76%65%67%77%65%62%2e%63%6f%6d%22%3e%6c%61%75%72%61%40%76%65%67%77%65%62%2e%63%6f%6d%3c%2f%61%3e%27%29%3b')).
Also, we're working on the search engine. I think that it's better than it was and we want it to keep improving. For example, I got your email about adding dates to original posts and it's that's been tacked on our to-do list! Yay!
Thanks!!
awesomeness laura u r the bestest! happy new year!
Is there a way to report blogs to admin? There are several in there that I'm pretty sure are spam, but I don't see anywhere to report!

can't you just scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on "contact us" then post the link to the blog? i dunno
Yeah, that could work. I was just thinking it would be handy to have a "Report to administration" link on the bottom of each blog post, the way there is for each forum post. Not a biggie; just something I noticed tonight when cruising blogs.
Excuse me if someone adressed this further back, but that's the point of this post. Is there a way to "jump to" a certain page of a thread? I went back to the beginning of the Open Letters thread, just for fun, and got up to like page 25 when I had to leave it. There are like 500 pages of that thread. Is there any way to "go to" page 26 so I don't have to spend all that time clicking on page numbers to get there?
I reported it, but you may not be able to read my message: I can't read my messages. I can see who sent it, but the message itself is blank. For all of them.
I have the same problem HH. Search isn't working for me either.
HH & Cam -
I just wanted to let you both know that I got your messages and I'm looking into it right now. If anyone else is having the same problem, please email me: laura at vegweb dot com.
Just an idea, did you try signing out and back in? Wondering if that might make a difference.
I'll report back soon! Thanks!
Laura
It works now.
