The My Favorite Appliance post

So, today, I was making a green tea frappucino, and me being the lame ass I am, left a metal spoon in the blender. The thing rumbled and the spoon ricocheted through the plastic cover, the shards of which were then jutted into my palm. Sooo the motor got shot, and I decided it was time for a new blender. The glass at the top was all chipped anywho cos I always bang spoons on the top of it (heh). I was at target tonight, and found an AWESOME clear blender that lights up all totally blue. Plus, it's got these light-up blue electronic-y touch controls on it, which i think is the bombbb. Def favorite new object.
Enough of my blender gloating. Any of you have a favorite kitchen appliance? Or maybe not kitchen?
Also me new blender, which I got totally cheaply at LIDL. Not a brand I know, but all the small appliances I have bought from them have lasted forever, so I'm good. And my hand-blender with the chopper box for pulverising onions.Less mess and easier than the large blender for little stuff.
Apart from that, good sharp kitchen knives.
I don't own a blender. I use my food processor for everything! So that is my favorite!
My food chopper. I now have a good blender in which to make smoothies, but before I got it, I used my food chopper. It does everything, it's small, and can handle single person portions.
My immersion blender. I love making creamy soups now that it's so much easier. It was a great purchase.
Definitely the ol' blender since it's just so versatile.
All of them....they're all my favorites! I have a new dehydrator and spiral slicer so those are my favorites of the month, but I couldn't live without my blender, my bread machine, my coffeemaker.....I could never pick just one favorite.
I love my food processor. :)>>> :)>>> It it a 30 yr old ++++ Cuisinart. I've had it for 7 years & only started using it a couple months ago. I don't know how I ever lived without it. It's friggin awesome!!! The consumer in me really wants to buy a new one, cause they come in pink now. I won't though, not till this one dies (if it ever does).

Storm: What kind of spiral slicer do you have? I thought I had decided on one to purchase. But, I changed my mind. I just can't decide cause the reviews on them are so mixed.
Once I get my soymilk maker it will probably become that but I don't have that yet, it is on it's way so I will choose something else.
This is really hard. I use my toaster oven a TON but it isn't very exciting, how exciting is a toaster? My Magic Bullet I like a lot because it does so much, more than a blender, and it has more power than a blender but it is smaller then a blender which can sometimes be a problem. My bread maker I love, and I love my crock pot for making beans.
I would have to pick my cast iron skillet! I LOVE that thing. I cook everything in it. I found out, the more you use it, the more non-stick it becomes. I can cook even pancakes in it now and they don't stick. I have a non-stick skillet too, but I never use it anymore, my cast iron skillet is my favorite.

I have the World Cuisine Tri-Blade Plastic Spiral Vegetable Slicer ($40.00).
So far I really like it, though it doesn't do the best job with small diameter vegetables. It leaves a lot of "core waste", but I just toss that stuff in a tub for compost broth so no waste for me!! It makes perfect zucchini spaghetti and I've used it on potatoes and beets too. Carrots, unless you have the really big fat ones, not so good.
My previous blender was like 7 years old, just a plain Oster 2-speed. But there's to say that I also used it almost everyday of the last 2 years, haha.
I found a wonderful recipe here :Favorite Belgian Waffles: http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=22512.0
Which require a Belgian Waffle maker. All I have a traditional waffle maker.
I just bought a Belgian Waffle maker from Amazon, but I have not yet received it. It will be my NEW favorite appliance now!
I have a mini food processor that I'm sure to love once I manage to get it out of the box! ;D But untill then, I really like the electic griddle that my mom bought me. It's great for doing pancakes for the family. :)
My new apartment has an old gas oven/stove and I'm in love with it! I've always cooked on electric and the gas is amazing. I seriously haven't burned anything yet and it just cooks so darn well :)
This is not an appliance, but I thought I would mention how much I LOVEEEEE LOVEEEE LOVEEEE my sea salt grinder. Ever since I got it, I use it every day and my food just tastes so much better! I never even salted my food before (which was probably better for me!) but now I can't live without it. A salt shaker just isn't the same.....maybe its that grinding noise I love so much?
If you are still using a shaker, I urge you to get a grinder!!! :)>>>

Immersion blender! Thank you! I've been trying to find the English word for it for yonks! I call it a "hand blender" but in Spanish it's known by the original brand (MiniPimer) or as "your third arm" which sounds so rude... ;D
Mine comes with a little chopper box, you take the blender attachment off the motor and attach the motor to the socket of the box lid, and it zips onions into atoms in about 2 seconds.

I'm with you! I grew up with natural gas and it is so easy to use and cheaper than electric! Plus the fact that if we have a power cut it usually happens right at meal time!
Interesting that you can get a gas stove here, but all oven units are electric. I've been told that it's to stop people committing suicide by putting their head in a gas oven. Which, yes--I can see that an electric oven wouldn't do the job. It seems that until the late 70's when they stopped making gas ovens here, that was the woman's method of choice for shuffling off this mortal coil.

Whoa! I've never heard of that! I still have to plug in my oven/stove to electricity, but I'm pretty sure it's just for the oven light and clock because the oven it definitely gas (has pilot light, no heating elements, etc.). I'm still baffled by the gas oven/suicide thing... :o
Apparently it's painless. You just go to sleep. Like, permanently.
It may be irresponsible to post that here, I don't know. But most VWers are pretty thoroughly into life, so I guess it's ok.

I so love my sea salt grinder too! It is the only salt dispensing item I use!

"Or maybe not kitchen" ;D well if I wasn't such a sweet, innocent girl I would be REAL tempted to say what my TRUE favorite appliance is..but since I am a pure soul I'll just cop to my food processor :)>>> I do really love it and use it a lot ;)

Hmmm, tough question as I love all of my kitchen appliances. Right now, though, I'd have to say my favorite appliance is my most recent purchase, my Cuisinart convection toaster oven (http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?order_num=-1&SKU=14784853). I love this oven! It's been close to 100 F all week, and this is helping to keep my house cool. In addition, I haven't had a working full-size oven for months now, and this baby has been doing the job so nicely. Another plus, is that I've been mostly making half batches of things like muffins and cookies, so I'm not forced to eat all of the additional goodies (and unneeded calories).
Another recent appliance purchase that I'm really enjoying is my Cuisinart Griddler (http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?order_num=-1&SKU=13383103). We've been making a bunch of paninis at my house, and they're such a quick, easy summertime meal.
Before the addition of these 2 recent purchases, I probably would have said my food processor. I'm hoping to get a new one soon, but my old one is still plugging away so far.
