Weight Loss Support?
I've been vegetarian for a few years and recently went vegan (april). Since Christmas, I've gained 14lbs, bringing me to about 22lbs overweight for my height/frame. I would really like to knock off those 22 lbs and get into a normal weight range for once.
I am fairly active. I bike almost everyday for atleast 5km, sometimes up to 40km. This is also new (since about April), and my eating habits haven't changed.
I really want to start eating healthier and have been researching as much as possible, and I want to join the gym as well. I would, however, love to find some people to share tips/tricks/progress with. Email pen pals or something would be neat, or in person (Toronto, Ontario) if anyone happened to live near me. I figured there would be a thread like this but I couldn't seem to find one. So, anyone interested?
Just writing to say that weight watchers has a great online website that includes lots of discussion boards. There is one specifically for vegans/vegetarians and it is a very busy board indeed. I think you might be able to visit the baords there without joining the program (they are under the "community" heading at the top). FYI.
Hi Michelle! I've been trying to lose some pounds that I gained over the winter, and I have been doing Eat to Live by Joel Fuhrman. It's a nutrition/diet book and program based on choosing foods that fill you up and provide the most nutrients and the fewest calories. It's great if you like vegetables (raw, especially), fruit, and greens, while limiting grains and starchy vegetables. I am enjoying it a lot and intend to keep eating this way even after my weight goes back down. It makes me feel great and it's SO healthy. And it's vegan by nature!
I've also heard great success with weight watchers. I don't thrive in situations involving measuring and tracking things so meticulously, I find, so it doesn't suit me, but lots of people love it.
The PPK (another vegan board) has a special, "secret" room for health and weight loss, which I like. It's a very positive environment.
Good luck!

HI michelle! You might want to vary your exercise a bit too. when our bodies get used to a certain exercise, it becomes efficient at it, becoming less challenging and burning less energy/ cals. Stregnth training is a great idea, as well as cross-training or varying up your activities.
also, be mindful of portion sizes. I find its helpful to periodically go back and measure our w/ a measuring cup an actual portion size, to keep on track.
GOod luck!! ;)b

Hush!
Yeah, I was just reading today about how effective interval training is. Your best bet is to vary your workout and do very strong bursts alternating with medium intensity. You can apply this principle to anything--cardio equipment, running, aerobics, walking. Switching between aerobic and anaerobic activity, in and of itself, boots your burn! And the more different types of activities you do, the better!
you werent reading that one *that* OTHER board, were you? hmmm?? 8-)
No, I did not read that on the-board-who-must-not-be-named. I learned it from my spinning instructor and then looked it up. :P
I really do need to lose my extra pounds. I'm about 15 pounds heavier than I should be.
I exercise and eat pretty healthy, but eat too big of portions (and indulge too much).
UGH.
