The Rock-Your-Body Fitness Thread
We talk about health and exercise in a lot of different threads. It's time for a one-stop shop.
As you all have read ad nauseam, I have a super slow metabolism so I'm always looking for ways to increase my fitness.
I'm going to join a gym next Wednesday (most likely). Is it true that I should leave a day between working muscle groups? I'll likely only be at the gym on Wednesdays and Thursdays, so I'm not sure what the best excercises are if I'm only going to be working that area once. Like, Wednesday for legs or front and Thursdays for arms or back. Something like that? I'll have about an hour between work and when yoga starts and the gym will be relatively empty, so I'll have plenty of time and access to equipment.

I recently read that dehydration leads to a drop on body temperature and a drop in temp triggers a body to store fat. Of all the dagnabbit, underhanded, flea-analogue bitten things! My normal temp is in the 97.1 - 97.3 F (36.2 - 36.3 C) range.
oww saddly i am not treating it well at all.... BUT!!! I am going to be with out house guests (for a while....at least) and should have time to get into a good routine. It is just hard to do anything in my 2 bedroom home when there are 6 kids and 3 adults inhabiting it.
haha, I don't even know how you function with that many people in your home!! I'm sure it's enough of a workout just running around after them all!
my legs don't hurt like I thought they might, but my arms are still sore from Monday...
Ended up going to bed late last night so decided to skip getting up at 5 this morning and I'll do kenpo tonight after work, with weights if I can convince my arms to take another punishing : )
I really don't believe i have been functioning..... it has been over a month. they should be out today. *fingers crossed* and first thing is first, i shall make some tea, and sleep :) then hopefully tomorrow excersise.
Enjoy having your house back!! : )
My arms did not want another punishing, so it was straight kenpo all the way.
Looking forward to chest/shoulders/triceps in the morning, nothing like a buttload of scary intense push ups to start off your Friday on a good note! : )
I need to catch up with this thread but my news is this... I swam for an entire mile last night!
44 laps in my YMCA's pool. Mostly backstroke yes, but I didnt stop, didnt float and I nailed it! RAWR!!! Sorry had to share. :)
holy hell, Cali, that's awesome!! I don't think I could swim one lap, 44 is massive!! You champion, you!
What's kenpo?
That's inspiring, cali!
I finally made it to the gym - 45 minutes on the elliptical, but no weights. I guess I'll do those tomorrow. My gym partner has been flaking on me. It makes no difference for cardio, but I like doing weights with someone else.
So this week i lifted 3 times, upper twice, lower once, and just cardio one day.
Then swimming has been great. I did the mile on Tuesday. Did 35 minutes on Wednesday, another mile on Thursday, and today I got in my mile in under 55 minutes! I also kept mile 3 to 24 laps of breast stroke and 20 laps of backstroke. I was so excited.
HH, I wish I could lift weights with you!
I haven't used my eliptical yet... BUT I did go on a 3 hour hike today!! :D it was so nice, a light drizzle nice and cloudy, and 40 degrees!! the warmest yet!
Cali, I like how you change up your workouts. (And yes, I wish we could lift together.)
Jessi - Hikes are the bestest.
What's kenpo?
it's like a kind of martial art: according to wiki
There's a bastardised version in p90x, it's basically just a light cardio workout p90x kenpo
Cali, you really are a machine, that's so awesome!! : )
Jess, getting outside for a hike sounds 10x gazillion times better and more interesting than walking on the spot on an elliptical! Kick arse!
HH, when you do weights with someone else, how does that work? You take turns on the same benches/machines? Hope your friend gets back on track and lifting those weights with you soon! : )
I just watched kempo on youtube. It looks like it takes an impressive amount of coordination.
We trade off machines (we get two machines and take turns on each with only the amount of time to change seats as a rest period), which probably lessens the workout, but is more fun.
haha, nah kenpo's pretty easy actually, definitely the cop-out day of all the p90x workouts. That's why I've taken to doing it with weights in each hand to get more of a workout : )
I've got to do back and biceps tonight after work, but it's really hot and I'm incredibly tired. So I suspect that's going to be a massive struggle. Yoga tomorrow morning, and I don't have the option to put it off till after work because I'm adjudicating kids debates tomorrow evening, lets hope I wake up in time!
I think i may have overdone it yesterday!! I am sore :D which just means i got a good one in. I am excited for this coming sunday, i am dragging a new friend along with me. we only have a while to hike the canyon, rattlesnakes will be out the moment it gets a bit warmer, then it is up to the mountains. just have the rest of the week to work, then i get back to having weekends off.. normalcy = good
good luck waking up oww!!!
there's sore, and then there's sore. One means you got a mean workout in, the other means your body's rebelling and you pushed it too far... hopefully you're the first kind of sore! : )
Legs and back this morning, kenpo again tomorrow, and ready to start a new week with chest shoulders triceps on Friday, yeaaaah! : )
How'd the back and biceps go, oww?
I'm not doing cardio this week. I need to be able to walk next week and I stupidly stomped on pavement in my work steel-toed boots to knock off dried mud and aggravated my perpetual shin splint. I'm fine with it. I did my arms and back today and they're the muscles in which I'm most interested.
shin splints really hurt hh :-\
hoping to stop and do a stroll to multnomah falls on the way home in like an hour. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multnomah_Falls
ouch shin splints do not sound like fun! Kickarse you could still do your upper body workout though, has your workout buddy re-surfaced or did you go on your own?
Jess, that's a pretty awesome thing to get to do on your way home! Did you take any pics?
kenpo went pretty well this morning, I was almost tempted to stay in bed but I got up and got on with it, and that reminded me how good it feels to get up and kick some arse in the morning haha. Psyched for chest/shoulders/triceps tomorrow, what a way to start a Friday! : )
Josh put up a pic in the reasons to smile thread
Gorgeous waterfall!
It's my Friday, which means it's your Saturday, which means you're sore from your chest/shoulders/triceps, which means you're happy, oww.
