The official menstruation thread

This is a place to talk about our periods! Not just diva cup related, but whatever we'd like to discuss/get help with.

My period recently switched from being towards the beginning of the month, to the end. I hope it stays semi-constant (schedule-wise). When I was younger, I had some cramps, then I was on b.c pills for about 4-5 years, and didn't really have cramps, I've been off the pill for about two years now, and I have pretty bad cramps the first couple of days/nights. They were HORRIBLE this morning.

I'm REALLY wondering what I'm going to do when we run out of our bottle of Tylenol. Tylenol stops my cramps pretty quickly. By "cramps," I mean the horrible stomach/back pain, the feeling like I always have to poop, the flushed feeling, etc. Before I've taken Tylenol it doesn't really seem to matter how I'm lying/sitting/standing...anything. I know yoga helps some people...I don't know if it helps me or not..b/c I don't think I've been able to force myself to do it when in pain. But, I can't always stop and do some yoga....I don't drink tea..I'm just not wanting to buy more drugs.

Anyway, let's discuss!

funny how this is turning into the diva thread part 2!
I still dont have my period.....its supposed to stay away while nursing. I actually am not dreading it that much because I want to use my diva again!

shea, do tell what/how a cervical infection is?!

yeah, you can use it forever!

does getting your uterus removed mean a hysterectomy? sorry.....i guess im ignorant about this even though my mom and all my aunts had one.

There are different types, partial, or full, but yes, getting your uterus removed is a hysterectomy. The biggest baddest hysto you can get is called a... TAH/BSO. Total Abdominal Hysterectomy Bilateral Salpingo-Oophorectomy. And that means bye-bye uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries. And it's rare to have the cervix removed, usually it's removed when there's cancer involved. A lot of women (younger women, such as our one and only Cali) will decide to leave in one or both ovaries, to maintain their bodies natural hormones. Without your ovaries, you go into menopause. So I'm gonna stop talking now, since I think I just gave you way more info than you wanted. Hope it helps!!

I got a cervical infection... I blame my Diva...I don't know if I will go back, because my Diva and I just don't get along.

Rilly?  Oh no!  :'(

shea, do tell what/how a cervical infection is?!

Well I think that was what she called it... now that I look it up the fancy word is cervicitis. I went in for my yearly pap smear, and they told me I had an infection. Probably caused by something rough in my cervix. It can be caused by STD's, but my checkup didn't test positive for any of those. And I would say that getting my Diva in and out was definitely more painful sometimes than sex ever was.

Cervicitis means inflammation of your cervix. But because it was always so painful, maybe you had it before you got your Diva. Just a thought...

FTR:  I don't eat sweets generally, but tonight I'm going to get ice cream for dinner.  I enjoy PMS cravings.  It's the one perk.

The diva is not meant to be worn that high up in the vagina. Shea, if it ever wandered that far north, I think you'd have a heck of a time finding it again. Seriously though, I'm with pink on thinking the inflammation was there before the diva.

Yay.

So, what does everyone else do for cramps? We have the tea stuff, and that one pose, and the back rubbing....

i don't have too bad of cramps, usually....

thing is, i mainly have been lucky because i have been relatively athletic, but when i am not my periods aren't as wonderful. when i was doing B&B my periods were a LIGHT 1.5 days. ha. my last one (post-B&B) was like 3 or so days. so lame.. and i was a little crampy on the first day.

vicodin, peppermint tea to help the nausea, heating pad. yoga when i'm cramping makes me want to die even more.

ETA: this tea to be exact.

My doctor is concerned because I haven't had my period since last year. Tests showes my ovaries look healthy, but my uterus lining is thin and irregular in color.

She wants to perform an endometrium biopsy, if the progesterone she puts me on doesn't make me have my period.

Has anyone had this done or know anything about this?

Ask for a Valium before hand, and it's not so bad. It pinches hardcore, but it's doable.
