NO Write NO Go

My mom made a new rule that if I don't write down my calories for every single last day of the stinkin week I can't go to my "sports" which means no tennis, tai chi, or water aerobics. I wouldn't mind missing tai chi to tell the absolute truth but I've missed 2 weeks so far over this stupidness. Its such a pain to write it all out. I hate it and know my mom took away like what I live for every week. It is so upsetting and I know I should but I just don't want to It takes for ever to write it all out and actually making the extreme number of calories she has in mind is just about the worst of it....
*end rant*
Your mom is just looking out for you. What is the "extreme number" that she is looking for?

For me 2200 is a lot its intimidating
I did it before but I always felt sick
i'm sorry. all i can say is suck it up and do it. if you don't "eat enough" make some up.
good luck :)
Don't listen to the above advice to lie. The truth comes out the same every time and lies have a way of catching up to you leading to more lies.
Listen to your mother and do as she says and life will be so much easier for you with so much less drama. Aren't you tired of the drama in your life?
I'm sorry you are going through a hard time right now. Maybe writing things down will help you. It is worth a try.
I believe that is the recommended intake, right?
It does seem like a lot, but you also sound like you're very active.
I'm sorry. What if you just write out what you eat, but leave it up to mom to figure out the exact amount? It doesn't take much time to write "1 apple, serving oatmeal...", but having to look up the numbers, ugh.
Thanks for your support guys!
I understand that I shouldn't lie and for me that has caught up.
Tkitty that is a good idea but i guess I would have to teach her to find the exact amount.
Does anyone know where I can find out how many calories I am supposed to eat?
http://www.active.com/calculators/calories_calc.cfm?CHECKSSO=1&RESET=0
...caloric needs are determined by the factors included in this nifty calculator, but as for activity level, I'm not sure what the objective definitions are for that...

Hmmm these two gave very different read outs i said moderately active but im not sure ive never thought of my self of an active person I think I exercise about 3.5 hours a week sometimes a lot more (like this week im suposed to do a double tennis session for 3 hours) sometimes a little less
This is how my week should go normally If my mom lets me...
Monday 1 hr water aerobics
Wednesday 1 hr water aerobics
Thursday about 1 hour of Tai Chi
Friday 1.5 hours tennis
Weekend usually contains a 20 minute bike ride
I guess that does kinda sound like a lot but idk
I wonder caloric level is right?? anyone have any ideas
thanks all you are so helpful

Yeah, I just saw what a discrepancy there is between those 2 calculators!
Violin, if you don't mind me asking, do you have an eating disorder? I guess that would help me understand why your mom is making you count your calories. Is she trying to make you lose/gain weight or maintain?

No one has ever "said" per say that I have an eating disorder I lost some weight at an attempt to being healthy going from an all processed nasty diet. The calorie thing is hard for me because its like an addiction almost and I was able to stay away from it for a while but I don't want to go back and think about the calories all the time. I suppose I should though. Ive gained like about 10 pounds, i think maybe less but I'm not sure, she never thinks my good effort is enough. I don't think she understands...
When I was eating the 2200 calories before I had a lot of stomach problems and acid reflux it wasn't until I stopped that high amount that I felt better
Wow this feels strange its like I'm spilling part of me to the internet. Ive never really told many people about this or my mom or anything, not even my very close friend

if you want a pretty conservative quote of how much you should be getting try using the usda food guide pyramid. and i think that if you were obsessing about your calories before it is probably a bad thing for you to be looking at that again. you should eat when you are hungry and what you feel like eating. does your mom know that 2200 is a lot for you? i am figuring that sine you are young and only do about and hour of non-strenuous physical activity daily you probably do not need that many calories. a lot depends on what your current height and weight are. you should negotiate with your mom about the calorie intake that she wants and tell her you are more comfortable writing out the foods and not knowing the calories that you are consuming. i think that she will understand that you just want to eat what makes you comfortably full and not know exactly how many calories that is.
A really easy way to do this, would be to write everything you eat in a word document, listed like this:
1 apple
2 cups oatmeal
1 cup milk
etc
And then go to someplace like www.caloriecount.com
They allow you to submit a recipe for its nutrition information, so just copy and paste the whole thing in, and you have the total caloric intake of everything you eat without having to look up each thing seperately.

I just know for me, I have an eating disorder and my mom put me on diet pills and weight watchers, etc when I was 11. I'm only now realizing how emotionally damaging that was- I felt like my mom didn't love me for who I was, or I wasn't good enough because of my weight. Really painful for me, but maybe you're not having those feelings at all!
Hi Violin, my super aqua aerobics girl!!!! :D
Sorry to hear you are having a rough time right now. I think 2200 is a good amount for an active girl like you to ty to gain weight. Possibly your stomach feels upset when you have a lot of food is because of the fiber? You can get that many calories on a healthy diet more easily than feeling really "full" all the time. Try more fruit juice and smoothies, snack bars like odawalla & clif, some protein powders, nuts and nut butters, advocado....
I think it may also help for you to add some weight training. Working out wiht weights will help you gain muscle, which will make you strong and weight more without looking like you weigh more ;) If you don't like tai chi very much, try switching that with some weights or an aerobics class that has some weights in it, or even yoga. Yoga is great for gaing some strength along with an appreciation and respect for your body.
Your mom really just wants the best for you. She wants you to be healthy. We all want you to be healthy!!! You are a beautiful person and a great contribution to this online community!
