My vagina monolog (b/c related?) ~ Very NVR - UPDATE

This might be a topic for just the women on this board.

A little background:  I've been on and off birth control for the past 9 years.  I've always had some kind of issue or just not taken it long enough to find the right one for me.  Currently, I'm in the USCG.  There are no GYN's on staff.  Everything to do with that is referred out.  I had a doctor I liked and they stopped taking my insurance.  Then I had to go to another guy, but I moved and he is now over an hour away.  So, I went to another new guy and I really f**king hated him (some people just shouldn't be doctors)!  Over the past 2 years, I've tried several (you have to take them for 3-4 months to see if any side effects stop).

Most recently (for the past 8 months or so) I was on the generic (govt wont pay for name brands) version of OrthoTriCyclen.  I had some pretty bad breakthrough bleeding.  I also noticed a greater likelihood that my natural pH 'down there' has been off.  Up to include pain when intercourse is attempted.  DH and I have been tested.  We're clean.  WTF is going on?!  Has anyone else experienced this type of stuff??  Is it just mental??  We've never had a problem before (this started in the last couple of months).

I know I should contact my doc, but I don't have one really.  I mean how many d**n doctors do I have to see to find one that I like and am comfortable with and knows what the hell they are talking about?!  This is how I feel about the whole situation:   >:( >:( :'( >:( >:( &^%*&^(*&@)(#&**^#*&% (<----- That is me cussing a LOT)

that really sucks! have you ever thought about something other than the pill? maybe an IUD?

I had breakthrough bleeding on ortho sprintec too!  My gyn said my body got immune to the pill, so she switched me to Yaz.  I was still having breakthrough and it messed with me emotionally.  I'm on the nuvaring now and I love it.  The bleeding stopped and I'm all good!

I had some trouble with infections on some BCP I tried. Right now I'm on Ortho Tri Cyclen & it is working well. Yes it is more expensive than generic, but it is worth it to me. I'm sorry you have had so much trouble finding a doctor you like. All I can say is try again, you are bound to find someone you like.

You know, some women just can't take hormonal birth control. My mom was one of them. She had SCARY side effects, and there was no way she ever lasted for the whole 3 months with any pill due to things like chest pain, randomly losing consciousness, extreme nausea (she couldn't eat anything at all without throwing up), etc. After she told me that, I decided I'd skip on the hormones too. After all, I have her genes.

I have a copper IUD, and I love it. No hormones, second only to sterilization, cheapest option in the long run (not upfront, though, lol).

Yeah, I just don't know anymore.  I'm tempted to just stop b/c altogether.  DH and I want kids, but I'm not looking to get knocked up for about another year.  That way all my chemistry classes are done and I can go back to taking all of my classes online.  I'm going to give it one more shot to find a good GYN.  I just talked to a friend of mine to get the name of her doctor (I guess she really likes him...had him throughout her entire pregnancy).  My main concern is the painfull sex.  Who wants any kind of pain when they are trying to be intimate with the person they love??  Sure as hell not me!  My body just might be rebelling from all of the hormones.  :(

Alright, I've made the decision to stop with hormonal b/c.  Talked it over with the DH and came to terms that I've been really messed up for the past year.  The only thing that it can be attributed to was the b/c.  And if I'm still messed up then I know for sure that something else is wrong and the GYN can't just switch me to something else.

For you ladies out there; How long did it take your body to get back to 'normal'?  Any strange occurrences while your body was coming down from the hormones?

When I stopped taking my bc pills, 15 years ago, I was pregnant within a month.  So do NOT believe any crap about "oh you wont conceive for 3 to 6 months" unless you want to have kids in possibly 9 months!

painful intercourse could be due to lubrication issues. I know with the pill sometimes you don't get quite as aroused. Try some water-based lubrication, see if that helps.

I can't take the ortho tri cyclen type pills..they make me super bitchy. I've been on Yasmin for several years and they work for me.

Not the problem....I wish it was as simple as that!  :(

I'm thinking of one of these methods.  I'm still going to wait a little bit for my body to get back to normal.  I'm leaning towards the copper one because it is hormone free.

Copper T IUD (Intrauterine Device) – An IUD is a small device that is shaped in the form of a “T.” Your health care provider places it inside the uterus. The arms of the Copper T IUD contain some copper, which stops fertilization by preventing sperm from making their way up through the uterus into the fallopian tubes. If fertilization does occur, the IUD would prevent the fertilized egg from implanting in the lining of the uterus. The Copper T IUD can stay in your uterus for up to 12 years. It does not protect against STDs or HIV. This IUD is 99% effective at preventing pregnancy. You will need to visit your doctor to have it inserted and to make sure you are not having any problems. Not all doctors insert IUDs so check first before making your appointment.
Progestasert IUD (Intrauterine Device) –This IUD is a small plastic T- shaped device that is placed inside the uterus by a doctor. It contains the hormone progesterone, the same hormone produced by a woman’s ovaries during the monthly menstrual cycle. The progesterone causes the cervical mucus to thicken so sperm cannot reach the egg, and it changes the lining of the uterus so that a fertilized egg cannot successfully implant. The Progestasert IUD can stay in your uterus for one year. This IUD is 98% effective at preventing pregnancy. You will need to visit your doctor to have it inserted and to make sure you are not having any problems. Not all doctors insert IUDs so check first before making your appointment.
Intrauterine System or IUS (Mirena) – The IUS is a small T-shaped device like the IUD and is placed inside the uterus by a doctor. Each day, it releases a small amount of a hormone similar to progesterone called levonorgestrel that causes the cervical mucus to thicken so sperm cannot reach the egg. The IUS stays in your uterus for up to five years. It does not protect against STDs or HIV. The IUS is 99% effective. The Food and Drug Administration approved this method in December 2000. You will need to visit your doctor to have it inserted and to make sure you are not having any problems. Not all doctors insert the IUS so check first before making your appointment

I went off hormonal BC almost 2.5 years ago and the only things I noticed were stronger cramps and not being able to count on "Diva friend" regularity anymore. But then, I wasn't sexually active, so I didn't have to worry about the pregnancy thing  :)

I just decided to quit taking hormonal b/c Nov 3.  So far, so good, although I guess it remains to be seen how my diva friend is going to react.  I've pretty much decided to go with the Paragard copper IUD.  I just got my info packet in the mail today, but I'm going to give myself awhile to recover from the pill before I go diggin' around with the IUD.
Everyone is different, but I just decided that the hormones needed to go.  There's a website called Aphrodite where there's a really long thread about womens' experiences after stopping the hormonal b/c.  Some of the women describe real horror stories about mood swings, but there's also good info about vitamin-depletion due to the pill that I'd never heard of.
Here's the link:

I'm keeping a journal now to note any weirdness that may arise due to stopping b/c.  I'll post any improvements/setbacks that I notice.

No, it only "skips a generation" because a male twin can't effect his wife's ovulation.  So my sons' wives won't have twins (by our genes anyway) but if I'd had daughters they could very well have twins.  So as a female fraternal(?) twin... be carefull!!  ::)

Identical twins are a fluke of nature so every women has an equal chance of having identical twins.

I hope you feel better coming of BCP.. I was on Ortho Tri Cyclen and boy was I a witch with a capital B!  No point in being on the pill if you're too darn messed up for sex.

I've never really had too bad of cramps.  Every once in a while but being sexually active was the reason I got on the pill.

Alright,

In case anyone was curious:  I've been off the pill for 2 to 2-1/2 weeks now and am already changing.  No more pain during sex and an increase in desire!  DH doesn't know what to do (well, technically he does but he's just excited)!  :D ;D  I'm just waiting to see what else will happen.
