KMK! or others. Eat to Live/Distance Running

KMK, you've mentioned that you are doing the 6-week plan in Eat to Live and I'd like to try it. Only thing I'm scared about is that it looks like not a lot of carbs for someone who is pretty active? I'm training for a half marathon in July and I bike and walk daily as well.

What do you think?

**other people welcome to answer also!

Yeah, I think following ETL might sap some of your energy if it's a change for you.  I have never been a heavy grains/starches eater, so I seem to be doing OK.  I eat tons of fruit as well, and lots of beans.  But I think there are allowances even in the six week plan for a little bit of grains, right?  Like, a serving?  I mean, there's all nothing wrong with just incorporating ETL into your diet more.  Like, more leafy greens, more nonstarchy vegetables, things like that.  And if you are tired, up the whole grains and see how that goes.  It's been working fine for me though.  Let me know how it's going!

Thanks for the input. Yeah, I think I will plan to start out with a lil' bit more unrefined carbs...I eat plenty of fruit and beans, and do pretty well on veggies, but I also love me my bread and rice... I don't think it will be a HUGE change for me, but hopefully this will help me work on getting more green veggies throughout the day and then I can modify as I adapt to it.

Thanks!  :)

Yeah, exactly.  I was sticking really strictly to the 6-week, but now I am more on the life plan, and I don't make breaking it once or twice a week.  I just always have a focus on eating lots of greens, veggies, and fruit.  It's a good way to focus your eating.  I think you'll like it!

I bought my dad Eat to Live (or rather, gave him my copy when I was done with it, hehe) for father's day.  He's reading it now!  I'm excited.  He's really into nutrition and stuff.  8)

Lucky. I wish my dad was! I might give this to him anyway, although I doubt he'll read it.

My best friend's dad just died really unexpectedly of a heart attack. It was the saddest funeral I have ever been to. I worry a lot about mine...

3 days of this so far and feeling pretty good. I really can't beleive how full you get on so much green stuff. (But in a good way)! And the running hasn't seemed to suffer. :)
