Diva FAQ
We the Divas are starting this thread as a reference page for all women who are thinking about converting to reusable menstral cups or have already made the purchase. We have compiled some information that we think is helpful. If more information is needed, please feel free to consult the Divas on the Diva Club thread.

2. Why is using the Diva more environmentally friendly?
According to the Diva website, about 20 billion sanitary products end up in landfills each year in the US alone! A reusable menstral product reduces waste. We figured that if you use about 4 sanitary products per day during a 7 day period, that's 336 products a year and 13440 products in 40 years! That's a big difference!
3. How do I clean the Diva?
For daily use, we dump it out and clean it with soap and water when changing it during our period. Either after your period or before your next period, soak it in a solution of 1/2 water and 1/2 hydrogen peroxide or boil it. Store in cloth bag provided with order.
4. How do I get it in?
RELAX! It looks big and scary at first, but you can do it! We've had tons of converts in the Diva Club and have all eventually mastered it. First, consult the website http://community.livejournal.com/menstrual_cups/453392.html#cutid2 to find an insertion method that works for you. You may have to try several different methods until you find the right one. Some of us like sitting on the toilet, some squat down, some stand in the shower. Again, keep digging around in your vagina until you find something that works for you. Some of us even purchased some vegan lube to help get it in. We promise that you will be able to do it, be patient! (Many of us have also noticed that it takes a day or so for our body to "warm up" to it. After the first or second period, insertion is a breeze!)
5. How do I get it out?
Again, RELAX! If you haven't cut off the stem, you can use that to pull it down to a level where it is easy to reach in with 2-3 fingers. Once you get your fingers around the base, squeeze the cup to break the seal. If you don't break the seal, it will feel like you are pulling all your guts out through your vagina. Most of us learned that the hard way. ;) If you have cut off the stem (many of us cut the stem for comfort reasons, just make sure you don't cut it so much that it leaves a hole in the bottom of the cup!) we find that if you bear down with your vaginal muscles (very similar to pushing while pooping) the Diva slides down to a manageable place. Again, reach in, break the seal, and pull it out.
6. Help! my Diva is leaking!
One member suggests spinning it after insertion to make sure it is open all the way & not folded inside you. Also may help to pull it down slightly because it may be too far up.
7. Why do the Divas talk about "gross" stuff?
The Diva Club believes that womens' bodies are not gross. In fact, they are strong, beautiful, and amazing. We love our bodies and respect our vaginas. We believe that our problems are not unique, so we talk about them freely in order to share information. Please feel free to say what is on your mind and to use the word VAGINA and not "down there" or any such euphemism.
The Diva Club welcomes you to the wonderful world of ethical menstruation. Please feel free to direct any questions to the Diva Club via the Diva Club thread.
You might copy this onto the FAQ thread...ok, so not VR but certainly VWR!
I fixed the formatting- it didn't look the same in the post as it did in the typing phase!
I think a lot of us also use the 'stirring' method to make sure it is open all the way. My Diva does not spin after it's inserted but I am able to stir one index finger around the Diva to make sure there are no dents and also feel to make sure my cervix is in the proper postitioning to prevent leakage.
It also leaks if it's in too deep -- just doesn't sit right. Great job, CYETS!
The Keeper Cup is what I use and it about the same as a Diva cup. Gladrags.com sells both the Keeper cup, Diva cup, and something called the Moon cup.

I just thought this would be a good thread to bump. I found it in a search.
The Mooncup is a UK-based version of the Diva/Keeper :)
