:howdy:
I and my loved ones are quite alright after the local earthquakes. (Physically, at least. It's a time of great worry and stress.) I thought you might want to know. :)
Thanks for the update.
oh man.... i hope everyone and heli is doing ok... :(
This is no good. My (in-law) Aunt and Uncle are in NZ on vacation. There were supposed to fly to Australia tomorrow, but the Christchurch airport is closed for the time being.
I hope everyone there is OK and things get up and running soon.
are they meant to be flying out of Christchurch or out of Auckland, Lauren?
All New Zealand airports are closed at the moment because the main air traffic control station is in Christchurch but they should have them up and running soon. Christchurch airport itself will be closed for a bit longer as they need to check the structural integrity of the tarmac etc.
The news reports coming through are pretty frightening, still absolutely no guess at the ball park figure of lives lost, but it sounds like it might be significant.
Still no word from Heli, but the networks are doing all kinds of crazy things, they're recommending everyone in the country only use the phone lines for emergency calls because it's all so overloaded.

scenes like this are pretty common across the city:

Thanks for the update. I tried putting heli's name in google's people finder page, but there was no info.
Oww ~ Thanks for the update as well. From what I understand they were supposed to fly out of Christchurch. I will be in touch with the travel agency their with (used) to find out more information as to how/if/when they are being rerouted.
I really hope the estimates on damage and especially on lives lost are wrong and that many many survivors are found.
Sending Heli lots of positive vibes!
Heliiiii I am thinking of you. Most people I know are accounted for, except for Heli and my family members who I haven't heard from yet :( Sending so much love southward...
Oh man, it's 8 AM Spanish time and I just read this. DH left the e-newspaper up for me to see. Heli, my sweet, wherever you are, be safe. :'(
Thank you my lovely friends for your concern. I am alright, as is my partner and his family in town. I have no family in Christchurch anymore 'cept me.
When I say alright, I mean physically. This is all very distressing; I can hardly describe how upset I am in so many ways. We are thinking about leaving (moving away from) the region. I hate to see my hometown in ruins. It's almost as if the swamp it was originally built on is trying to reclaim the land.
Our (Christchurchians') luck has run out and yes, there are many injured people and 65 confirmed fatalities so far. The iconic cathedral in the centre of town has lost its steeple; it looks like a bottle with its neck smashed off. I'm not even religious and this hurts me deeply. I fear for the future of this town.
At least power is back to us and we have light, the ability to make hot food, and to get back in communication with you and our folks properly. I love you guys and take all your good wishes to heart.
I am so glad you are OK Heli! You were the first person I thought of when I read the news this morning.
I know what it is like to have your home be in ruins.....it is heartbreaking even when you are physically OK. Hang in there. We love you!!!!
Oh My Goodness, Heli!! I am soooo glad you're still with us. I can imagine (well, I can try) that you're pretty traumatised...goodness me. I've only lived through a very minor quake here and that was enough for me. It only knocked stuff down a bit...like pictures fell off the wall and some books hit the floor...but it was enough.
Hugs! So glad you're okay!
Heli glad to hear you and your loved ones are ok, i couldn't even imagine what you are going through..
Heli it was such a massive relief to see your lovely face on fb this morning when I got to work, soooooooooooooo happy to know you're safe! And I was hearing this morning that 80% of the city still has no power so it's awesome that yours is back on!
The devastation and loss of life are mind blowing. Christchurch is a beautiful city and it is gut-wrenching to see the rubble it has been reduced to. Thoughts are with you and P/ :) today.....
Heli... I'll be keeping you all in my prayers. So happy to hear you are O.K. (((hugs)))
((heli)) glad your ok, but sorry about everything you are going through! i can only imagine...
Heli ~ So glad that you and yours are safe. Such a tragic event for sure. Sending positive and healing thoughts to Christchurch!
My family is safe and being rerouted through Queenstown.
I'm sorry your town has been so very damaged. I'm happy to hear you and P are (physically) okay.
Glad to hear you're not injured (or worse). I wish you the best for your mental/emotional recovery.
