What's your ecological footprint?

I just calculated mine and if everyone lived like me, we'd need 3.3 earths!! That freaks me out! I'm seriously never buying anything new again. And I'm gonna save as much energy as i possibly can.

I thought I was an eco-nazi, but jeez, there's so much more I can do! And if mine was 3.3 planets, I can't even begin to imagine what the rest of my family's is. aghhh

So I ask, what's yours?

Um, is there a specific formula to use? Or a website or something?

2.55 Earths : (

I think that's a bit extreme!

I did this one: http://www.myfootprint.org/en/

4.88 earths.... And the sad part is we're a LOT better than the average family you know?

2.64 Earths.  It would be better if we had a recycling program here, choose alternative transit more and ate a true vegan diet.

Still, that is excellent considering I live in the US.  Those in the US automatically have a large footprint no matter what they do.  There is some article discussing this issue.  If I can find it, will post.

3.69.  Wow.  That really sucks.  It must be all the commuting because I think I did okay on most of the categories.

4.28, I am ashaimed.  I am way less then the national average though!  Mainly I don't buy "recycled" or "organic" or stuff made from hemp because all that stuff is WAY more then I can afford, but I earned points by being a "frugal spender" which I am mainly because I have no choice!  I wear my clothes until the have holes in them, wear my shoes until the soles are falling off, only buy what I need when I need it.  And if something breaks, I will try to fix it rather then replace it.  I think that helps a lot.

And I don't get it, a lot of that stuff, you really have to live in a house to have, such as a garden, composter, being able to use solar panels to suppliment electricty, but you loose points for having a house, but gain  points for living in an apartment, but loose points for not being to have a garden, etc.  It is a no win situation.

Wow. Someone worse than me (4.68).  And Fufuberry is right; I know a lot of families that don't even do the things I do.  There's no public transport available,  I'm physically not able to ride a bike or walk too far.  I can't garden because there's so many wild critters around they eat anything I've tried to plant.  I've tried all sorts of humane deterrants,  but nothing has gotten rid of the rabbits, possums, crows, armies of squirrels, moles, gophers, rats and mice, not to mention the ants and other insects.  I'm not kidding; I can look out my window at any time and see 30 critters in my yard.  If anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear them.  And I live in the middle of downtown!  It's not like I'm out in the wild country.

Same here. I mean, We live in a townhouse so we can't really modify the property with compost bins and gardens and solar panels and what not, and my husband works and hour away and we can't afford to move, and our family's are 4 hours away and even though we only visit them each once a year, all that traveling made our score pretty high. So I guess we can either be eco-friendly and jobless or just have to travel a lot and take solace in the fact that we do what we can.

2.27.
I'm quite sure my downfall is the ridiculous commute I have to do every day for work.
I can't help the fact that I live in an insane sprawl of a city and that jobs are freaking hard to come by.  I'd love to work close to home/be able to walk/carpool to work, but that's just not a reality for me now : (

oww, i'm moving to new zealand right now! lol. i did my ecological footprint in places other than the US and for every place i chose for my location, my footprint was half what is here. agh

same here, 2.27.  and a huge part of me knows this is because i'm currently unemployed.  i have to say however, that pretty much all my clothes are second hand.  i finally realized that i might really need some new shoes because lately everyone has been hassling me about my hole-y vans.  my sister who lives at a community house that gets all sorts of donations gave a pair of donated shoes.  so i'm definitely low on the eco-footprint insofar as reusing things.  but i admit that i could definitely do more around the house to make things more efficient and less wasteful.

I got 2.22 earths.  I feel like we do really well and a lot better than most of the people I know.
