what's up summer?

so i've been on summer vacation for a month now and i've learned a few things.

1.  hangovers are not fun when you're a stay at home dad.  makes the day long.
2.  my new cookbook looks hard.  i'm tryin' it out this week.  i'll report back.
3.  i need a spice rack.
4.  my dad is still a redneck.  the alabama trip was damn near impossible to stay vegan.  i don't know how you people do it down there.  (see below)
5.  hash edibles from the dispensary are the bomb.  keep those in high places away from dogs and kids.
6.  babies poop a lot. (see below)
7.  babies require a lot of things when you leave the house.
8.  partied with this hawt chick at her first panic show.  (see below)
9.  my wife is still good at panic.  (see below)
10.  3 day widespread panic benders require 2 full days of active recovery.
11.  it's hard not to get hangovers in the summer.

hmmm so far this summer...

1.I learned being vegan in Vegas isn't that hard! I have not been to "the south" so um yaaa

2. I need to make it a point to hangout with my friends more (Especially my vegan BFF) because they are all so awesome!

3. I have been cooking with some fresh herbs that I have grown myself and it is such an awesome feeling

4. I have been looking through a few cookbooks as well, especially my new Viva Vegan cookbook which doesn't seem as intimidating as some of my other cookbooks. I plan on making a few recipes from that book next week :) (Also LL, my Gma bought me 1000 Vegan Recipes for my Bday and it has way simple recipes with a few common ingredients, you might wanna check it out)

5. I have been cooking way too many stirfrys... i need to switch it up already :/

6. I  got a soy/nut milk maker and I plan on trying to make my own as soon as I can afford to buy organic soybeans online

7. I decided I really wanna try making my own tortillas... Viva Vegan has inspired me and tortilla presses are only $20!

8. I also need a spice rack! A HUGE one!

Also what the hell is panic? or a panic bender?

I used to get wicked hangovers...so bad I needed three days to recover.  :)
Great pictures!!!!

It's so hot and muggy here in FL we locals just lay low, maybe go out to eat, go to the movies, shop, but outside activites are for the tourists.  The fun begins when summer ends in October.

Widespread Panic = a very cool band, esp live!

A 'Panic bender' = overindulgent consumption of said band's music, typically concurrent with overindulgent consumption of other fun things, typically requiring some (potentially significant!) recovery time.

At least that's my experience er, interpretation of LL's remarks...  ;)

My summer thoughts:

1. Moving sucks; wherever I live next, I'm going to live there forever!
2. Working full time during the summer is, somehow, NOT as much fun as being *off* all summer... who knew?! (it IS far more lucrative, tho, so I guess it's ok for now. But still... I miss my pool time, dammit!)
3. My family of origin needs a keeper! (I mean, a keeper BESIDES ME!) I am seriously just about ready to have almost all of them committed. Except my niece and mother, who can live with me, but only if I get to have a full-time house staff to deal with all the laundry.

So far... I think I'm not going on enough benders, of any description! I'll keep trying... I can do better, honest!!

PS: re 'vegan in the south'... the key is not to eat *anything* unless (a) you made it with your own two hands, and it hasn't been out of your sight around anyone you don't know well! or (b) you can see all the ingredients (salads etc). Even then, if it's from a restaurant, there's probably bacon in it somewhere. GRRRR! Beam me up already, Scottie you damn bastard!... seen recently at a chinese restaurant here in AR, under 'Vegetarian Dishes': "Family Style Bean Curd -- spicy tofu, broccoli, snow peas, carrots, onions, water chestnuts, and meat (beef, pork, or chicken)."

W.T.F.????? These... are not my people.

I travel a lot... wonder why?!

Being vegan in Nashville isn't necessarily hard, but it sure ain't as easy as living in the bay area. I miss the convenience there.

on vacation this week....just hanging out at home...
I realized after this weekend that I enjoy having people over to hang out and party and stuff, but its even nicer when they leave....
I spent all yesterday afternoon re-doing all of my spices for my new rack and it was the most fun I've had so far....

i think we might head to target today and look for a rack.

Only 5 days? 40-45 degrees Centigrade is the forecast for the rest of the month here.

I've learned that I've forgotten how to have free time. I feel guilty when I'm not working, and when I have a free afternoon I tend to waste it trying to decide what to do.

It has been in the 90's for over a month and I don't have AC. Humidity is a bitch in Nashville too. I don't care about your 5 day heatwave.

No, sweetie. Only about 105-115.

We have on occasion got up to 120.

It's more than a 5 day heat wave and it's supposed to get into the 100's. My friend lives in Baltimore and she said it was 108 right now.

I live in New York, extremely close to Canada. It's never this hot.
