What are you doing for Thanksgiving?

Ugh, I am NOT looking forward to Thanksgiving!!!  I am going to my son's father's place where his family will all be.  I hate hate hate being with them.  They love to see my son but I am treated like and outsider ( which I am) and I am ignored while they all lavish my son with great amounts of attention.

Plus, SD (son's dad) mom can't cook!  Also, EVERYTHING will  be loaded with animal ingredients.

I know I have made it a point to say that I don't consider my self vegan because I do want to eat meat occasionally, yadda yadda.  But when it comes down to it, since I am turning lactose intolerant I do NOT want to eat anything that will have dairy in it (which is pretty much everything but the turkey itself).  Veggies with butter, mashed potatos with milk.  Then there is the turkey....ewwwwww....I haven't liked turkey for ten years due to a food poisoning issue I had.  And I hate eating meat anyway beacause it makes me all cloudy headed, feel all gross inside and any amount of dairy gives me a sore stomach that can have me doubled over in pain!

So, I am thinking of making a small tofurkey, and bring a vegan sweet potato caserole and some veggies just for my son and I to eat while there.  It is only for one day. and I plan to have a real Thanksgiving just my son and I over the weekend, a vegan one that won't make my stomach hurt and make me feel greasy inside!

How are you going to handle this very non-vegan holiday?

SQ - yes! make something that you can take with so you can enjoy being there as well.

I was planning on having my mother and my childs father over for thanks giving, doing a vegan everything except cook a turkey breast for them (i try to be nice, and no complaints about everything else being veganized) and a tofurky or stuffed acorn squash for a main dish for me and my daughter. then found out mom has to have dental surgery and wouldn't be able to eat, so i was going to bag the whole traditional bit b/c i was doing it for her mostly, and i was going to buy a pizza stone and do homemade vegan pizzas and beer for thanksgiving. BUT found out yesterday her appt got moved til after thanksgiving... so it is on! my first veganized turkeyday! may have other people pop in, i keep an open house and know too many with out family in town :)

Ugh...no thanks, I hate turkey.  If I eat  meat, the ONLY think I will eat is fried chicken, that is IT, I can't stand turkey, pork, beef, fish, etc.  I hate bar be que chicken and don't care for baked chicken.  I think I was meant to be vegan, my taste buds just don't care for the taste of meat.

Why are you going there in the first place? You're not with your son's father, so why go? If they must see him on Thanksgiving, couldn't you drop him off for a bit? Maybe you don't feel comfortable leaving your baby with him, but if I was you I'd never attend Thanksgiving dinner with my ex, even if I had his baby. I'd rather eat a yummy Vegan Thanksgiving dinner alone then be forced to deal with people I hate on holiday.

I went vegan again at the beginning of November and as of right now I have  no desire to be anything but.  Fried chicken smells a whole lot better then it tastes, and last time I ate it (mid Oct) I was surprised to find that it didn't taste as good as it used to.  I just really have NO desire to eat meat anymore, nore consume dairy, and I never have been too crazy for eggs anyway, when I was buying eggs, a dozen lasted two months!  Now I just don't buy them anymore and use flax seed and/or banana for baking, heck of a lot more healthy anyway.

As far as seeing the ex's family, problem is they live 4.5 hours away, and I have no other reason to visit that area other then for them.  I made a promise that I would go, so I am going.  I may just drop him off and do something by myself.  Unfortunately, that would mean spending Thanksgiving alone.  I don't know, I love my son, he is my everything. Right about now, I wish I had never gone through that DNA test two years ago.  I should have refused when he took me to court over it.  (loooooooong story, believe me!)  I just wish I hadn't told them I would go down there, I would MUCH prefer my son and I having a happy vegan thanksgiving him and I.  I am praying for snow!

But the  reason I put up this post was because I truely wanted to find out what you all are doing for Thanksgiving!  It isn't just about me!!!!  I want to hear happy stories.

I will be spending the day by myself since my boss just recently denied the vacation request I put in in June.  I had to pay $150 to cancel my ticket home to Michigan for our traditional Thanksgiving gathering.  So, basically I'll be spending the day in my PJs snuggling with my cats and watching movies.  I haven't decided if I'll bother making any special food.

Do you live anywhere near Indianapolis?  That is where I  will be.  Maybe I can drop my son off and we can spend the day together so that neither of us has to be alone?  I plan to make a small tofurky.  Want some?

Thanks for the kind offer SnowQueen but I'll have to decline because I live in Texas.

I will be spending Thanksgiving with my family.  I am looking forward to spending some time with them, plus I get to bake for them.  Try to make the best of your day SnowQueen.  It may be hard but try to find the positive parts of your day.  :)

I was going to have Thanksgiving alone (Which I'd actually prefer, because cooking would be sooo much more fun and less of a chore) But my mom apparently felt bad, so John and her are just going to the beach in the morning and eat there that afternoon. Then coming back so they can be here when I eat? (I don't get it. hah.)
