It doesn't have to be food-stuffs that are sent.... Anything Earth Day related or just things in general you like would be cool too! :) There were a lot of non food-stuffs in the last exchange---- homemade earrings, aprons, dolls, etc etc.

super idea, I def. think it's time for another round of gifting awesomeness! : )

what are the rules? I'm not certain if my post count is high enough yet?

I'd love to join in, IF we don't have to spend a tonnnnn of money. (I can bake, though!)

Here is an example of rules for gift exchanges from another forum/thread:

1.  You must have been active on the forums for at least 6 months OR have 1,000 posts.  Don't pout; if you've been here awhile you're more likely to send out your package.  Also, if you signed up six months ago and have only posted like ten times, forget it.
2.  Don't flake on your partner or you'll get banned until you send their package.
3.  Flat rate boxes are your bestest friend usually, but unless your craft is particularly heavy it shouldn't be necessary.  It still recommend priority mail for speed!
4.  Since it's handmade stuff there's no price goal, but you should work out with your partner the degree of effort you're putting into your package, so one person isn't knitting a hat and scarf set and the other person sends them six cookies.
5.  Bring it!  Don't send out something crappy!

I think this was a handmade gift exchange.  Rule 4 wouldn't apply exactly, since we don't have known exchange partners, but you get the idea.  I think a numerical price range (such as $15-20 sans postage) is absolutely necessary.  I know people get pissy about the post requirements but what it says is true--people are more likely to follow through if they stick around.  People who are new and really want to participate will have another opportunity once they accumulate more posts.

*In regards to the post count..... I think there is a little wiggle room.  I've been on the boards for over 3yrs and don't have 1,000 yet.... Trust me, participation will be based on if you are known or not.

How do we assess price on handmade stuff, though? Based on the materials?

I always thought the dollar indication was more like a cap than a minimum.  As in, spend up to $20 but no more, rather than a range to spend between.  I could be wrong though.
I don't know, but I would probably assume most craft items would come in under that value...?

I have 0 money but I'm always game :)

I've been wanting to make something for a while, but I don't have enough courage to carry it around myself, so I'm in just so I can inflict it on someone else.  Warning:  I'm likely to put together a crap gift because I've been shafted in 2 out of 3 exchanges, so my attitude is bent.  Pair me accordingly.

I don't know if I'm in yet, but we definitely need to implement those rules (at least). Everyone needs to COMMIT to be able to COMMUNICATE. Don't sign up if you have things looming, and you are positive that you'll be able to follow though. If a rare emergency does come up, you need to let it be known ASAP.

No one is going to top Lil AC, though.

I wish I could make stuff..other than foods.

I want to participate but I don't think I'm going to because shipping costs here are outrageous and the postal service is unreliable...but it may be possible that I'll be unable to resist. That said, I have a thought about this exchange. If it's an Earth Day exchange, I suggest that people do their part for the earth by not buying new things (except maybe necessary ingredients) for this one. Re-gifts, thrift finds, handmade, recycled materials, etc. It would be a fun challenge and I'd love to see what people come up with.

That's a great idea, algae. We could take pictures of our creations and post them on an Earth Day gifts thread.

If this does happen I'd like to join in.

that's why I don't think I can participate.....much jealousness, I loved the one exchange I wass part of!

I don't like having a $20 max. I am not crafty, so it is hard to find cool gifts if I have to stay on a budget...besides, I don't think we had any problems with that last exchange. People don't really care how much is spent...atleast I don't think so.

This.  I've never done an exchange before, but I'd really like to.  My only problem is that I'm not crafty either - everything I would send I would have to buy, so I wouldn't want a price max.  But otherwise, I'm in!

I think all of the vw exchanges have had a $20 spending ceiling.  People can choose to ignore that limit, but I think part of it is so more people can participate.

Example of a $20 non-crafty gift:
$10 two reusable Chico Bags
$4 vegan lip balm OR vegan chocolate
$3 coffee frother (ideal for frothing EnerG Egg Replacer)
$3 cat or dog toy, if they have a cat or dog
$0 mix CDs
$0 copies of your favorite recipes
$0 a note
$20

Capture last time sent a theme gift.  She lives where you can get vegan marshmallows and vegan graham crackers, so she put together a s'mores package.
