Vegan WIN

So. My omnivorous husband is a construction worker/builder's apprentice. And the other day he said him and some of the 'guys' got talking about food, he let slip his wife is vegan, cue: "so what, that's like, just salad and shit?" at which point he gears up and explains the huge variety of hearty, delicious, varied, tasty and filling food I make, and points out we barely ever even have lettuce in the house, and that we eat a lot more interesting food than any of them.

I call that a vegan win.

Share yours....

I'm waiting for rainbow cookies to grow now!! Sooo good.

i just got back from talking with a super meat eating friend who kept going on and on about how good I look, and how healthy I look and how I've thinned down and when i told her i was vegan and about the cool food i've been eating and how good i feel and she now wants me to give her lists of the kinds of things I buy when i go shopping, and what i do with them and stuff cuz she wants to be healthy too. =-) SQUUUEEEEE

I have had a couple of vegan wins recently!

Last summer I went to stay at my friend's flat and ended up making lots of delicious vegan food for her and her flatmates to say thanks for having me, and they raved about it. One of those flatmates is now about a week into trying out being vegan! And asking me for recipes and advice, I'm helping as best I can and I'm really excited!

Also, for my 21st I catered a massive entirely vegan supper for about 75 guests...so I was busy in the kitchen with my mum and various helpers for 3 solid days making all the food...it was so well received! I have had dozens of requests for the recipes of my chocolate beanut butter melting moments, my banana cake, my mushroom savouries, my mini quiches...everything!

And then the day I got back from the party I got this email from a friend:

Hey Theo,

Just wondering if you can recommend any resources (websites, books, forums, etc) for vegetarians/vegans?

My family are very "British" and we have sausages & potatoes at least three times a week. The other four, it's either steak & potatoes or strange meat-y concoctions of things that I am not familiar with. This 'British' eating regime has taken a turn for the worse as I'm slowly starting to hate meat, which I have hated for the last few years.

As you can see, I'm going insane in the membrane. Unfortunately if I tried to go cold turkey, I'd eventually snap and bite someone. (or something that remotely resembles meat)

Your help would be very appreciated! :D

From .

P.S. Don't tell about this, she doesn't need the additional ammunition to use against me :P

P.P.S. Save me from the horrors of having to eat sausages/potatoes three times a week!

I was so thrilled! I have recommended lots to him already, so here's hoping :D Also I recommended vegweb, so hope he doesn't get upset I published the letter... Sorry and I'll delete it if so!

ha - your post made me laugh Theo.....recently I've become addicted to sausage and mash.....I'd never really thought about it, but I guess it is really 'British'.

Family lunch at the in-laws yesterday, my mother-in-law is awesome at making things vege-friendly for me, often making a small version of the meal everyone else eats, but sans-animal product.  It's awesome.
We got there yesterday and she excitedly told me - "I made soup from vege-web for you!" .
It was, as always, awesome.
Vegan WIN!

eta: I'm pretty sure it was this recipe of Theo's

I loved reading all of these.

My most recent vegan win was my nephews grad party.  I offered to make a few dozen cupcakes. There was still going to be a regular grad cake but I wanted to make cupcakes anyway.  I stacked them all on a tiered cupcake platform thingie and they looked spectacular.  They were all devoured in record time with lots of people asking specifics about them.  There was a lot of the omni cake leftover.

Also, there is a girl at work that is considering vegetarianism, so she would ask lots of questions.  I told her that I would bring in some vegan cupcakes for her to try. I forgot until her last day of work...so I made a batch and brought them in. Everyone tried them and she kept the rest.  The words used to describe them were, these look like they should be in a gourmet bakery!, decadent, to die for, omg so good!

I made seitan o'greatness on Sunday afternoon.  It had finished baking and I'd cut it into smaller servings which I put in the freezer and left one piece on a cooling rack for eating over the next few days.

Went back into the kitchen a bit later and found my husband slicing it up and putting it on his sandwiches for work the next day. For half a second I was annoyed that he was eating my seitan that I was going to have for dinner, then I realised he'd overlooked the ham and other animals available and was choosing seitan for lunch... which makes it a vegan win! : )

I thought i posted this but i didnt. I make cookies of the day or week to take to school. Everyone begs me to bring in more the next day. Today people were asking when i was making more because its been a few days. heh. Like random people in my classes that i dont talk to have came up to me asking for cookies!

This morning, Sean told me he wanted to be vegetarian  :)>>> I don't think I've ever really bothered him about it before either, so that makes me happy that just by feeding him and maybe once or twice talking about stuff when he asked me why I'm vegan, I made him think about his food choices. yay.

We had a friend round last night to play Wii and decided to make pizzas.  We have 2 pizza trays and so made 2 pizzas - one vegan and one not vegan - the theory was that N would have some non-vegan and some vegan, as we didn't want to force vegan cheese upon our friend.
Anyways, when they both came out our friend started off with the non-vegan one, then saww mine and edcided he wanted that one instead.  I warned him about the vegan cheese (just because I know non-vegans normally find it funky), but he loved my pizza and even had a couple more slices - VEGAN WIN!!

Yay shell! Haha. Love it.

This guy came over today, right when i was getting out some pumpkin pie to eat so i gave him a piece, he loved it. Later he asked me what tofurky tasted like and i told him i made a pot pie with leftovers and he could have some. For the next hour he kept talking about how excited he was to try it until i gave him some. He said it was the best pot pie he'd ever eaten, and he wants more of my food. Haha. yesssssssss, win.

My sister and I are both staying with the parents this Christmas, and she told me she wants to make a vegan sweet potato pie for me! And told me in no uncertain terms that I was obliged to roast a jack-o-lantern again. And be the one in charge of gravy.

I had a 24hr bug yesterday and wanted soup.  DH ran out to the store and brought back 4 different types of Amy's soup, let me pick, then made and served it to me all while I was layed out on the couch.
