There are some sick people in this world

I'm watching the local news tonight and on comes a story about animal abuse. Some sick person cut the ears off of a 4 month old kitten. As if that was not enough they also stepped on her, dragged her along the pavement scraping it's poor little nose and kicked it hard enough to cause internal injuries. I swear I hate people.
Somebody found the kitten at a gas station and took her to the Humane Society where she's receiving treatment. They said she lost most of her hearing and has to have surgery for a hernia. The miracle is that she doesn't seem to be having any traumatic responses to people due to the abuse. She likes to cuddle with the HS workers and was purring away during the news interview.
People suck. That is disgusting and horrible.
Gross. I'm not sure why I opened this thread.. that sort of thing makes me sad. :'(
I can not understand cruelty and hatred. I hope the person who did this is punished to the full extent of the law although laws for animal cruelty suck big time.
On the bright side, news such as this touches many peoples hearts and some loving person will surely adopt the little kitten and give her a great home.
I am still trying to get over the guy in Greece who recently heated oil in a frying pan then enticed a street dog to his window with a sausage. The starving dog grabbed the sausage and the a**hole poured the boiling oil on him. Thought it was so funny he filmed it on his cell phoned and emailed the video to all his friends. One of which turned it in to the police.
I can't understand how anyone can see humour in torturing an animal or a child. I just don't get it.
Purring can also be a stress-fear response. My cat used to purr like mad at the vet's, who was a feline specialist. He explained to me that purring from fear/stress is an infantile response, kind of like adults who will suck their thumb or twiddle their hair when very nervous...the kitty is trying to lull itself.
Oh how I wish I hadn't read this... :-[ :P :'(

Absolutely true Yabbitgirl. Harold my old girl is terrified to go the the vet. She purrs so loudly that it is hard to hear her heart.
I once read a letter to the editor (over 25 years ago) from a man who found a cat that had been hit by a car. His letter was basically to say how sad he was that the person that hit the cat couldn't be bothered enough to stop and help the poor thing. This man picked up the badly injured cat and drove it to the humane society, all the while comforting it. The cat purred the whole drive in the car. Sadly, the cat had to be euthanized as it was injured beyond help. The kind Samaritan stayed with the cat for this final act. I never forgot that letter
*Anger* *burning anger* >:(
You know...it's real hard to have compassion for your fellow man when they ingage in this kind of senseless behaviour! That poor kitty! I truly hope she makes a full recovery and finds a good home-as for the abuser--well, let's just say I believe in karma...
There was an update on the news tonight about the kitten. She's getting adopted by a long time volunteer at the HS. Also, a couple has donated a sum of money (can't remember how much) for information leading to the arrest of the abuser. The HS is receiving a lot of donations to cover the cost of the kittens medical treatment.

That's wonderful! I really hope they catch the SOB who did this!

:)
I still feel sort of oogy though. Hopefully they will catch whoever did this and dole out a meaningful punishment.
