You are here

resisting the urge to be...well bad!

hey guys,

have any of you had such a nasty craving for anything (yes even non-food stuff) yet caving in to the 'want' defies all that you believe in as a person?  i have two very differnt issues;

1.  i really want cheese (real chesse) popcorn and this craving just grows in its desire everyday.  no comparable replacement (thats vegan) has sufficed

2.  a guy whos bad for my future but sooooo good for my 'present' (get it...'present!?) he knows that i like him to unwrap my 'present' but he also realizes that he can never have the 'present' for keeps.  i dont wanna hurt him by the way.

any help would be greatly appreciated...yet again,
veronica

I'm on day 2 of a fast right now and I can't stop thinking about Arby's fried chicken cheese covered sandwich thing I saw on tv once...I don't understand, I never liked fried chicken and I pretty much hate cheese.  It's consuming my thoughts, though.  I know I won't actually give in, but I just find it weird.  I never crave stuff like that while I'm not fasting.

Other than food, I tend not to crave things I shouldn't have...I just convince myself that I should have them so I won't feel guilt...how unhealthy of me

Well, with number one, assess your diet. Are you getting enough of the things cheese (and popcorn) have in them? Calcium, protein, fats, B-12, etc?

Usually a craving indicates the body wants something, so it assigns a "source" of it to crave.

As for the second one... If it's fun and games, keep it fun and games. Make sure that is stated and known. Literally say, "This is just for fun. We have no future together". If it'll get messy, just avoid the situation.

I don't know if this sounds good or not but put some veggie parmesan cheese on some popcorn.

Just put some on a little so you don't ruin a whole bunch of popcorn.

If you are over eighteen your free as a bird but that still doesn't mean you might be from him.Get it there's a reason why they are called bad boys.

i agree - make sure he knows that it is going no where and that he shouldnt let himself get too attached.  it's best to address it early so it doesn't get ugly and he has no argument when/if you end things because you already gave him a heads up.  honesty and being straight out is so much better than leading someone on - from there it's his decision if he wants to continue with the short term thing.

I have real trouble controlling my portions (my Dr says I need to lose between 15-20 lbs. I'd be happy with 15, she says 20). And taking the stairs instead of that handy lift.

I'm sedentary and it's a real fight to walk etc. now that I can't afford the gym and the local community centre stopped the good aerobics class. So I have to resist the urge to snack, and to sit.

if you can find the gardenburger meatloaf - get it for a quick meatlof fix!  so good - and perfect when you just want a slice and not an entire loaf.  it even has gravy in the pouch with it.  mmmmm

On number one Try just giving it time or sub something completely different like chocolate.

On number two if you are worried about it getting messy or hurting him Just don't go there. I am a big fan of a 'freedom' But sometimes even when we set up boundaries it gets ugly and we can usually sense that in the beginning. One person will agree to the no attachments rule hoping that the other will change their mind after they figure out how great they are. I've been on both sides and it sucks from both sides so just be carefull.
