New Years Resolutions
Don't usually go in for those as when I did I never kept them up and things I have given up, I gave up out of the blue and kept to them. But his year I am going to give myself a few and see how we go, so here they are:
1. Make a new recipe once a week.
2. Buy nothing new (aside from food and fuel, and grundies (if I need new ones next year)).
3. Make (and use) at least one raised vegetable plot.
4. Volunteer at the local dog shelter after I take my GMAT exam at the end of January.
5. Get out and about more and meet more people (have seen a hiking club I am going to join in the New Year).
6. Read 25 books of least which 10 are thought provoking and not just a fun thriller or mystery.
7. Reduce liquor consumption to a case of Heineken or 6 bottles of wine a month (or a combination of both).
#2 is the one I am keenest to achieve and will track the closest, #1 is the one I think will be the hardest.
Anyone else got any?
Oh! I think you have some really good ones! I really like not buying anything new--Ive been a thrifting whore lately--hopefully I'll keep that up in the new year too!
Here are my goals for 2009
Finish my undergrad
Get my GRE's and Grad applications done (and sent!!)
Increase my weekly running mileage by 5 miles
Maintain high raw consistently throughout the year (Raw! Version 2.9 starts January 1, 2009--join us in raw chit chat for it!!)
Maintain a target weight
Be as active as possible with animal rights and become as educated as possible with the issues (even though it breaks my heart to know the specifics--I have to be the voice for the voiceless and I can't do that if I'm all sorts of ignorant!)
Intern at Farm Sanctuary NY (September through November)
I'm really committed to all of these things so hopefully I will not only do all this, but a lot more too! I seriously want and need 2009 to not suck (at least not as bad as 2008). I would also really like to add "find love" to that list--but I'm pretty sure that is just out of my hands at this point so I'll just fore go that one...indefinitely...
I like this! Now mine :
Lose weight. I started this year, I'm continuing, keeping up with yoga, dancing, hiking, etc.
Save 200 $ each month.
Find a new job in a new city, a new province, a new country if possible!
Eat at restaurants less than 5 times a month.
As much as it's possible, make my own food from scratch (bread, tomato paste, mufins, pasta, granola bars, jams, preserves, marinades, etc. if you've more ideas for me, I'm all eyes)
Have my own little garden with herbs, tomatoes, zucchinis?
Be more active in the community.
Start and finish a creative project...
:D
You guys have some great ones. I like the word "grundies." Is that like undies? But kind of manly and British? Or, am I way off?
Anyway, here's mine:
1. GET A JOB!!! I have been unemployed for a month now! Ughh....
2. Lose the 15lbs that I have gained in the past 6 months.
3. Stop spending money.
4. Cook at home AT LEAST 5 times a week. (I eat out a TON right now)
5. Use the Vitamix that I just ordered and drink green smoothies with lots of kale in them.
6. Actually, I should make use of all of my fancy kitchen appliances more. (ie. soymilk maker and kitchenaid mixer)
Yes. That is my list.
AH, You said 'Grundies'! I love that word! My sis and I use it all the time! ;D
Anyone else got any?
Nope, I don't make them.
save 100$ a month.
exercise.
focus on school.
attempt to make ponycakes a vegan dinner. i do not know how to cook and i don't really own anything vegan cept for what's hers.
Anyone else got any?
Nope, I don't make them.
Me either. I'm allergic to setting myself up to fail.
I just make decisions. Not putting dates on them helps.
I always really hate new years resolutions. They are always to lose weight/ quit smoking etc... and its all put in our minds by all the commercials for pills, gyms and nicotine gums and it makes me sad. BUT... this year I have made a huge list of ny resolutions, here's a few of them
I am going to cut down on buying things with a lot of packaging, mostly going to buy dry beans only instead of canned. I have always been a sucker for the convenience of canned beans, and I sure do eat a lot of beans.
I am going to find an internship in what I went to school for. It isn't easy finding a "job" in my field, but there are lots of internships around if I work hard enough to get them where I live. I wrote them off at first because none of them seemed to be paid jobs, but at this point I don't care. This also ties in with my other NY resolution to fix my resume to something that actually looks professional.
I am also going to make sure my dog gets some professional training. She is 7 months and I know a hell of a lot about dogs so she hasn't gotten any professional training yet, but I need to come to terms with the fact that she needs it. I am going to cheat and use one of my good friend's who will most likely charge me little to nothing but it is still professional because she is going to school to be a dog trainer in a few weeks.
That's all for now, I have a bunch more, but they are more like ideas I want to accomplish.
I never remember my resolutions ::) But this is what i would like to do next year
-Eat vegan (the other day i decided to stop eating eggs ;D)
-Keep track of my community service hours for school, and get the rest of what i need
-Graduate with a 3.5 GPA (at least)
-Rake in some scholarships (and not put them off till the last minute)
-Retake the SATs and do even better
-Start sewing more
-Not hold back (in general)
-Establish a better relationship with my mother (if she allows that to happen)
-Win vegetable judging, and make it to nationals for land judging

capture....careful about being a thrift whore! I have certainly been one in the past. I also am doing my best not to buy ANYTHING new....but I've always been a thrift shopper. The other day I went to organize my closet, and I folded all of my pants and put them on the shelf up top-there are over 50 pairs up there. I am not kidding. I think 99% are from thrifts, but do I really need another pair of beige cords? The 50 pairs was AFTER I weeded out about 15 pairs to give away, and does not count the ones hanging (dressier) or shorts. I am a pants whore. Now I wont even let myself buy any more thrift clothes. SIGH>>>>
I like not buying things. I can't believe how much money we save every month. I still buy my kids' clothes at thrifts though.
ETA the sad thing is, I basically wear the same 3 pairs everyday. I just can't give up the others for some reason. I wish I could. I think I am sick.
Oh, and I forgot....the 50 doesn't count my millions of sleepy pants either!
maybe if i write it down, i'll be more likely to do it. haha
1. lose the *cough* 15 pounds i've gained.
2. eat at least 80% raw.
3. not over-eat (that one's a real toughie)
4. be more creative...idk if you can force that on yourself, but i'll definitely try! lol
5. do more yoga.
and finally..
6. stay friends with all the incredible people i've met forever and ever!!
yay!!! lol >:D
1. make healthier lunches for me to pack at school (regardless of what other people think. they already know i'm vegan... they expect to see "strange" food with me.)
2. force my family to eat the leftovers (they always sit in the fridge and get thrown out)
3. help my mom eat healthier and do wii fit 4 times a week
4. do yoga when i come home from school, then nap
5. maintain healthy weight
6. play with hamster almost everyday in his ball
7. smile more around parents and be silly
8. recycle EVERYTHING
9. continue saying money and control shopping urges
10. be more open with my brother. i now know i can tell him anything.
I don't put dates on when and what I would like to accomplish. I really don't. But some things I'd like to accomplish in the next year include:
+ losing some weight so my new belly piercing looks good (started at the gym today)
+ better diabetes control (started by going to the doctor today...first time in 8 months)
+ eating healthier foods
+ maintaining/raising my GPA (3.58, currently)
+ getting a permanent job
+ walking Lucy more often (she and I got a new leash for Christmas)
Ok , it goes like this.
1) Try out as many hot pepper varieties that I can lay my hands on.
2) Take better care of my NJ Plants this year .
3) Not to be cowed down by family who are against my Hot Pepper eating love.
4) Stop watching TV for anything other than musical programmes.
5) Start workouts in the evenings also and add 6 pack by the year end.
NJA

Sister, you are preaching to the choir! I have to stop myself from buying everything I kinda like just because it's a buck or two! Thankfully right now I am abstaining from buying any clothes--but...I still go and buy crafting stuff, house wears and anything else I see! I keep telling myself--you're moving next year, stop buyingcrap andstart gettingrid of stuff!!!
Hmm, alrighty I'll bite!
- Kick off the lacto-ovo from my vegetarian this year
- Find time to volunteer for a cause that means something to me
- Be active, don't let the lazy take over
- Be grateful, not tacky
- Be supportive, not bossy
- Master tofu
- Get a 4.0 GPA this spring
- Actually go to the optometrist and get a new prescription
- Play more, work less
Okay, its my turn:
Enroll in classes at my community college
Read a lot
Learn to knit
Fix my sewing machine and sew my own clothes
Get credit under control
Learn to talk to people and make friends
Exercise daily(or at least more often than never)
Learn guitar
Grow out my hair
Take vitamins daily
Find a decent job
Fix my iPod
Grow a garden
Limit time on internet :P
Save at least $5000
Cook more
Learn to like my body and my looks
1) Run a marathon (RNR Seattle June 27th woohoo!!)
2) Travel...a world exists outside of upstate NY I know it does! When I take days off from work I actually want to get out and do stuff even if it's by myself.
3) Become a master bento preparer. Which kind of translates into becoming a better cook.
4) Actually use the reusable bags that are laying around.
5) Write a novel, doesn't have to be complete but enough to know a lot of effort was put into it. Errr something like that.
6) Bike to work at least 3 times a week in the spring/summer/early fall. Maybe... logistics still need to be worked out on this one.
The main thing I want to change is to budget--not really a new years resolution, as a "starting next term" resolution, with next term happening to start next year.
I also only wear 4 pairs of pants, even though I have three more that more or less fit me. I just can't make myself get rid of them. I'm glad I'm not the only one! ;)b
1. Less vegweb.
2. Stop buying takeout from Whole Foods and eat more healthfully.
3. Go to spinning class at my new gym from M-Th, and Saturdays, so I can lose my 40 extra pounds.
4. Do Pilates every morning (yay!)
5. Don't let dishes sit in the sink.
6. Improve at tracking student data at work. (Boring.)
7. Be more social.
8. Finish more creative projects. Such as making something out of my infinite collection of wine bottles.
9. Stop my secret bad habit. :-X
