Hair washing
Some of us use shampoo and conditioner, some baking soda, some just water...let's chat this out!
I always used s & c until a few months ago when I used baking soda. I liked it for a few months, but then my hair just couldn't decide how to be-it was sometimes oily, sometimes dry, sometimes weird. I learned, however, that it's not normal to have my hair coming out so much. Apparently, shampoo (all different kinds over the years) made my hair come out. Not a ton, but way more than was coming out with just a baking soda scrub. I went back to s & c for a short time, but now I'm trying the water only method. It's quite annoying to have such oily hair right now, but not a huge deal to wear it up/braided...which is usually what I do anyway.
P has only used water for a few months now, and says his is way less oily. I'm going to try to see how this goes! My hair doesn't feel dirty, and smells just like water..so that's fine. It looks fine as well, just oily on top! I just rinse well, then try to scrub really well all over my head, rinse again.
ha, that's way funny oww!
This thread has inspired me to wash my hair less often. I was washing every 2 days, but I started stretching it out to every 3 or 4...basically whenever it starts looking/feeling gross. I've gone up to 8 days without washing. It just depends how much I sweat or how much my baby sucks on my hair or whatever. :)
dprince-
How often were you washing your hair before? Maybe you need to wean yourself off shampoo instead of quitting all at once.
I was washing it daily, or at the very least on very busy days, every other day.
Is everyone still not washing their hair?
I'm just wondering haha.
I have a feeling some people have given up..
Well, I was obviously already out. I've been washing my hair with leftover shampoo (usually no conditioner) and sometimes baking soda/water. It definitely has more "body" in a way when it's with water only, but I think that's mainly the oils sticking it up.. and the dryness. It's pretty good right now.
I'm still not washing.
It was a bit funky for a bit and I tried a baking soda wash, which really messed with it. I haven't rinsed it since and it's recovering. I haven't needed to put potato starch on it for a while, except a one-time touch up at the crown.
Yay!
I'm still not washing mine too. It still gets grosser after I water wash it, which I think is kind of weird.
That's what I noticed with the WO rinsing. It gets gross afterward. I'm avoiding getting it wet altogether now.
I only water wash mine when my scalp feels gross and itchy.
I started the cornstarch thing, it really does help.
i don't wash.
yayyy!! i still water wash because after dance when im all sweaty, my head gets super itchy.
I'm still WO washing and still not really happy wth it. I am not wanting to back down aqnd use shampoo again because I have gone so long without, but if I'm not happy wearing my hair how I want what's the point in not using shampoo.......
Hmm, if only I wasn't so so stubborn!

funny, on the way to work this morning I was actually thinking about popping in this thread and asking exactly that!
I'm at 13 weeks and I'm generally pretty happy with it and am wearing my hair out more and more. It's definitely different to when I was shampoo/conditioner washing, and I am still hoping there's a bit more 'normalising' to go yet so it might get to the point where I love it rather than being generally ok with it, but yeah, no plans to stop/change any time soon.
Still going! Don't actually know how long now? Must be similar to oww.
The humidity recently has made it feel a bit grosser than usual (and stick out at funny angles) but it's managable. I agree with you guys about it being more yuck after a wash, I find that I only notice grossness now right after I WO wash it, then I can completely forget about it for days on end, most of the time I'm not entirely sure how many days it has been since a wash. Using arrowroot from time to time if I feel the need. I like that better than washing.
One issue though, might have been from the sun...yesterday I had the tiniest bit of dandruff, first time in my life! A swim in the sea seems to have cured it though.
I'm still happy! See no need to go back to shampoo and conditioner. Though I hope it's ok now summer is coming, with more frequent "washes" in the sea etc.
i don't wash.

Was the dandruff dandruff or arrowroot powder buildup?
When I scratch my scalp, I'll get some potato starch residue under my nails. I've been thinking about ways to reduce it. Maybe a fine-toothed comb would work.
I'm pretty sure it was dandruff, it was only the tiniest bit but I've had the starch residue and think this was different. But it didn't bother me, was just like "huh, look at that". And it's not there today.
Yea a good comb might work, or flexible bristle brush?
I started using a big-ish comb. My brush got gross real fast. Haha.
I have random days of a tiny bit of dandruff too. Its weird.
grrrrrrr you guys who are happy with your hair!! I really really want to love it but still don't. Mines no worse and perhaps better after a WO wash.
I was so jealous when I met up with theo the other day and her hair was like all 'ooh, look I'm fine' and my hair was 'aha ha ha, I'm all greasy'.
Of course our hair wasn't really talking but I felt like it was coz hers was so much nicer.

LOL! This reminds me of that bit in the book of Bridget Jones' Diary where she talks about going to bed and sleeping and her hair starts jumping around like a badly-behaved toddler yelling, "Now what do we do!!" :-D
