Hair washing
Some of us use shampoo and conditioner, some baking soda, some just water...let's chat this out!
I always used s & c until a few months ago when I used baking soda. I liked it for a few months, but then my hair just couldn't decide how to be-it was sometimes oily, sometimes dry, sometimes weird. I learned, however, that it's not normal to have my hair coming out so much. Apparently, shampoo (all different kinds over the years) made my hair come out. Not a ton, but way more than was coming out with just a baking soda scrub. I went back to s & c for a short time, but now I'm trying the water only method. It's quite annoying to have such oily hair right now, but not a huge deal to wear it up/braided...which is usually what I do anyway.
P has only used water for a few months now, and says his is way less oily. I'm going to try to see how this goes! My hair doesn't feel dirty, and smells just like water..so that's fine. It looks fine as well, just oily on top! I just rinse well, then try to scrub really well all over my head, rinse again.
Every 1-2 days.
when i'm sweating a lot, either every day or every other day. if i'm not working out, i'll not wash it for a few days. maybe 3 or 4
Haha. I do it once every 1 or 2 weeks.
lmfao. now THAT'S a true hippie right there. awesome!!!
haha, sarah you're awesome.
I am also still doing no-shampoo, nearly seven weeks now.
It's not gross or anything, but I am really hoping to start seeing some improvement as I get past the two-month mark.
Checking in!
Still going strong. 6 Weeks since last shampoo, 3 days since last water wash. Spacing out the WO washes is working really well,y hair seems to be getting happier and happier the less I do to it.
Here are some pictures from today :D
It's realy hard to photograph the back of your own head:

Wonky side one that shows the hair:

And one that actually looks like a person rather than cousin it:

It feels really soft most of the time now. Word from MPAGL is it almost feels like it used to and he really likes it, frequent comments about it being silky. The colour has definitely changed though! I think shampooing was prolonging my childhood blondeness, now I reckon I can safely say I'm a natural (light) brunette.
All in all, I'm happy with the results of this experiment. I like not spending money and time and chemicals stressing on my hair. My daily routines are simplified and I like how my hair is less dry ad flyaway. Win :)
Your hair looks fab, theo!
I'm on week two and still cheating with potato starch when it starts getting gross greasy.
Potato starch is my favorite because it seems to absorb the most oil. Leaving it in for a few hours before a WO rinse isn't long enough. I left it in during work today and a co-worked commented that she could tell it was powdery light by my scalp. I rinsed it this evening though and my hair is voluminous and doesn't feel greasy at all. I think leaving it in overnight would do it. I'm not sure if the starch application negates the lack of shampoo or only delays the acclimation process.
yeap, I'm still not happy with my hair.
When I met up with theo last week I was surprised at how shiny and good her hair looked. Like really good, maybe better than before - not as flyaway!? Well, what ever I was jealous.
I know what AC means about the greasy matted thing - i get that in the morning - my hair feels much more tangled.
I tried putting a bit of coconut oil on my hair today after the WO wash, and it feels great! But it doesn't look that good - I think I put too much on and it looked lank.
I'm currently at 6 weeks and 2 days since my last shampoo, and I am really pissed off that it's not better than it is.
I really hope that I'll be happy with it soon.
eta: lol that I put yeap!! I think I must have been thinking about typing 'yeah' and 'yep' and mixed it up. I like 'yeap'
I love my gross hair.
Its not like, actually really gross. But. Its fine and I like it. It smells funny, but no big deal. Haha.
Theo has unicorn hair.
I still haven't tried the potato starch/arrowroot thing, it sounds really cool...I might have to give it a go next time I hit a greasy patch.
Thanks for the vote of hair confidence Shell! I have been really lucky, my hair has just responded positively to this whole thing, I know not everyone is feeling the same way. Like I said that night though, your hair looked absolutely fine, I would never have been able to tell if I didn't know already so its looking normal :) The coconut oil does feel awesome huh, did you see what I wrote a few pages back about an easy way to put it through is just kinda rubbing some into your hands and finger combing? Hopefully with the right ratio it will look as awesome as it feels!
Sarah, you are my hero :)
S_O_G, haha because of the funny faded colours?
theo, your hair is GORGEOUS!
I just water washed my hair because I felt gross; mainly after you guys talking about how you wash yours so often! haha. I haven't even got my hair wet in about 2 weeks. It was weird. Haha.
definitely gorgeous, theo, really happy it's working so well for you.
I haven't taken any in a few weeks so might get some new comparison photos of how manky mine is soon...
Shell, has N said anything to you yet? Or have you told him? I hope you feel better about it sooooooon!
haha, I think Sarah wins at this thread. : )
I'll have to take before and after washing pictures this time to prove it isn't horribly disgusting, haha.
vh <3 :)
Haha Sarah definitely wins at the thread!
