Food bill per week

Just wondering what everyone spends per week on food per person. Have you gotten more frugal in the economic downturn? What are your best tips in getting the most for your money?
Cheers,
Janel
Way more than $20.00.........avocados are $0.99 each and I average about 10 a week so that's $10.00 a week just on avocados for one person.
I spend around $100 a week for me and my BF
To save money I get all my produce at a really cheap market which saves me a ton. I also buy a lot a canned beans, canned veggies, and pasta which are always cheap. I try to stay away from expensive fake meats and dairy products because that is what makes my bill skyrocket.
I always thought I spent a lot of money.. but 28/week isn't that much.
I was amazed at how low the brackets are. I'm a single person who doesn't eat much and I probably sink about £15 a week on food, no problem.
That said, this thread has actually made me want to spend as little as I can next month and try and eat all the old stuff in my cupboards... hm... I should try that.

Let's do it! I have a load of tinned stuff and dried stuff and a pretty good collection of herbs and spices. No reason why I keep buying fresh stuff every week and only eating that. Think I have some veggie bakes and sausages in the freezer too... yikes...
ya seriously lets! my cupboards are over flowing... i need to make use of what i have! especially since rent is due soon :(
The way I buy groceries is kind of odd. We buy almost all of our staples (flour, sugar, beans, rice, ect.) once a month (usually spend about $100-$150 to get everything), then try to only spend $10 a week for the next 3 weeks. We buy mostly fruits and veggies those three weeks, trying our best to not buy anything else unless absolutely necessary. We are both unemployed at the moment. Luckily Justin goes back to work in a month, I'm desperately searching for work, not going so well. Even if we both have jobs in the near future I would like to continue buying groceries in this way, we waste less money and eat more fruits and veggies.
I spend about $100.00 a week for the two of us, I like to keep a full fridge and pantry
If it's just me, it's about $20 a week right now. Of course, my parents buy me most of my staples when I come home and pull my "I'm a starving college student" face out, so most of what I buy is fruits and veggies. Still, I only buy dried beans and super cheap rice in bulk to keep my costs down, and I just started planning out my meals for an entire week at a time to make sure I use up the fresh stuff that I have before I buy anything more.
Sorry, I did not write the question correctly! It should have been per meal in terms of how much you spend :busted:
umm we can go anywhere from $20-$150 for two people. we try to keep it around $40-$50 though.
So, then, how much do you spend on breakfast in a week, kind of deal? Or how much do you spend on each meal individually? Sorry if I'm being dim. -_-
Yeah, I don't think I understand the question anymore.

I am sleep deprived, so what makes sense to me is likely not sensical :-[ I am trying to find out how much you spend on a meal per person in an average week.
We live in Geneva, Switzerland...one of the most expensive cities in the world, and I'd say we spend between 100-150chf (roughly the same in $) a week on food for the two of us. And the sad thing is, I don't even eat lunch at home and I eat for free at work (I'm a nanny), so that's excluding 5 meals a week for me!
Okay, so what you'd spend on average, on a single individual meal?
Well $5 a meal x 3 meals = $15 a day per person x 2 people = $30 a day x 7 days a week = $210 a week. I don't spend nearly that much. Half of that is a high grocery bill for us.
So I guess I spend $1-$2.50 on each meal per person I guess. But I mean... some meals are cheaper and some are more expensive you know. I think your survey numbers are much too high.
can you reset the poll?
I voted more than 20 dollars.. that's definitely not a meal for me.. that's a week's worth of food.
Um, I use less than 100 for two weeks for the three of us and we get our tummies filled and are well balanced. I let the budget be 140 for 2 weeks but usually don't come close to it. If I shop at the farmer's market, I spend even less.
