details: i don't know what details to give you. i assume you want some type of proposal story? doesn't exist.. we decided to get married because it's stupid for us not to financially and we were planning on it "eventually".. so now's the time.

doing it soon because then we get a break on 2010 taxes. we decided in aug/sept.. so yes, short.

ceremony on the beach, friend officiating, same friend having the reception at her house. very small, non-traditional, etc. etc. we're just writing whatever for the ceremony since a friend is officiating (this is hard).

That's pretty much what we did-except it wasn't for tax stuff..more for let's do this before we move. I actually didn't notice much of a tax difference...........

and I think we had the best wedding ever!

I said it on facebook and I'll say it here - congrats to you both.

I think it sounds like a very good reason to get married, and sounds like a lovely ceremony!

yeah, well our main financial reason is actually dustin will get more financial aide, but the tax break should be good. We could have gotten married a bit later for him to be all good with the financial aide, but his family lives in FL and his mom wants to come and she's a teacher and can be here near Christmas.

it really depends with taxes on how your incomes are, though, for us i'm the only one working right now and claiming being single is KILLING me on taxes (i get paid $12/hr and get about $10/hr after taxes).. so i know i'll get a nice return and then have a lot less taken out next year.

i'm sure out wedding will be great, but mostly just for us, not for other people. no booze, no crazy foods (we're doing mostly raw plus keeping it all cheap, obviously). but, we are having probably the cheapest wedding ever. free officiant, free ceremony cite, free reception cite, friend paying for food.. all we're really paying for is out rings (which i have my g-mas old ring and got a cheap dainty band online, found a cheap band for dustin), whatever we're going to wear, we're indulging in our favorite fruit (we can get organic fresh durian overnighted, but it's 10lb for 180! definite splurge).. i spent about $16 on invitations (mostly stamps).. yeah.. very cheap! neither of us super care about weddings at all, so it's weird. we DO care about honeymoons and wish we could go on one :(

Your wedding just needs to be perfect for you two.  And it sounds very much like it will be.  As far as honeymoons go; just take one later.  Every paycheck set aside a certain amount (into a honeymoon account preferrably that way it doesn't end up elsewhere)  and when you have enough.... GO!  That is what Evan and I did.  We couldn't afford a honeymoon right away and our work schedules wouldn't have allowed for one anyway.  Congrats again! :)

Aw you'll get your honeymoon someday! I wish you could go right away though. Where would you go?
I'm so happy for you guys :)

that sounds great for you guys. i'd hate the idea of having to mold a wedding based on what friends/family expect.

that's some expensive durian! i take it the stuff sold in markets isn't organic?

also, um, you will need to post pics when this happens.

probably se asia or some other tropical and beach-y place. and i don't have the money to take time off of work, either. i'm taking a total of two days off just for the getting married part.

fb, yeah it was kind of overwhelming at first what everyone expected of us... and then we kind of reminded them that it's US and obviously they aren't getting some traditional wedding from us.

we will post pics. we obviously aren't having anyone photograph the wedding or anything, but hopefully people will take enough pictures.

Vegharmony!  Congrats to you both!  The wedding sounds awesome.

Except for the no booze part.
