Clothing & other textiles

So...I'm in the middle of a debate. I would like opinions on whether or not animal product textiles ei: Wool, Silk, Alpaca are "OK" for the Vegetarian consumer(wearer). I am a dressmaker, BTW. Thank you. :)
What do you mean? I guess it would depend on the individual, but vegetarians typically don't forgo wearing animal products. Vegans do. No animal products for vegans.
I think ac meant: vegans don't.
I'm not sure about vegetarians. I went directly from omni to vegan. From what I've seen, which is hardly definitive, vegetarians have less stringent mores and use leather/silk/wool. You might want to ask on Veggie Boards. They have lots of vegetarians there.
Vegans don't use any animal products, so no leather, silk, wool, etc.

so: vegans do forgo wearing animal products.
she was just being tricky : )
I meant vegans do forgo. ...I don't know why I said it like that. Vegetarians are most often only concerned with diet.
eta: haha, yes oww
The ol' tricky dicky ploy, eh?
I am vegetarian and do not wear animal products. Take that, statistics.

Me too.

Hey, I did say this:

You guys are just superior. :-*

Well, duh! These are two superior kittehs. (P.S., a kittehs reference is an honor, even if you're looking to rescue adorable cat-sized puppehs.)
"OK" is a personal decision. I wear my old leather and wool, I will wear them out and not purchase any more. Silk and leather are a result of killing an animal, so I would not buy new products of those. I will wear wool, primarily if I know where the wool was farmed and that the animals are treated with care and respect. That is easy to find here in the midwest.
By definition, vegans do not wear any animal products, including wool, leather & silk. I think most vegetarians are okay with wool & silk, but I know several who won't wear leather. It's a personal decision.
As a dressmaker, are you asking if you can call something "vegetarian" if it is made of leather, wool, or silk? If this is the purpose of your question, I would say NO, you should not call a garment "vegetarian" if it is made of animal materials because it will be misleading. If I saw a piece of clothing labeled "vegetarian," as a vegan, I would be drawn to it because calling it that implies that it is different than OTHER pieces of clothing, you know? If it is made of animal products, it doesn't need to be set apart from all the other wool, silk, and leather goods out there, so it shouldn't be called "vegetarian."
Not sure if that's what you were asking, but I thought I'd throw that out there just in case...
i did not buy new clothes with wool, silk, leather or fur while i was vegetarian. nope nope nope.
