Ask me random questions

I'm bored at work and will answer them with the most creative response that I can think of.

Sarah, knit a bag! Make a really big (or whatever your desired size is) square or rectangle, fold it "hamburger style" (you know..like longways is hotdog style? did they only say this at my school?), sew up the sides, maybe sew in a lining if you're feeling fancy, perhaps sew on a button! Then make a strap by pretty much making a scarf and then sew that on. Voila, bag!

Oooooo, you just made a bag sound lots easier than i thought. heh. And YESSS we used hotdog/hamburger style, i still say that whenever i can (and it scares me when people dont know what it means) I just might do that! It sounds fun!! We have a button box, i can get cool buttons from it!

Oh, for the button, you don't ACTUALLY have to make a button hole, you can just slip the button through the stitches. I'd use a pretty hefty yarn if you carry a ton of stuff with you, maybe knit with two yarns at once..and sew the strap on twice so it doesn't break.

And then post pictures (:

Is it wrong of me to be jealous of my friend cause I want to do what she gets to do for a living? (Plus, she never gets back to me so that I can even get info on how she made it happen for her.)

That's not jealousy, that's emulation. You want to be in the same job, but that doesn't mean you want *her* spot. She's the jealous one, if she's sitting on the info. After all you might get the same job, but 100 miles away, right? It's a common response where I live, and I don't admire it. I hope you can get the info you need without this person's intervention. You might go where she works and ask them, just tell them you're interested in the career itself! (You can always do the "I'm writing a term paper on career placement, and..." thing.)

sarah, if you do make a bag, i would highly recommend a liner!  i had my friend crochet one for me in high school but it would stretch and such.  it needed a liner.  stuff would fall out, things would poke through it, it stretched all the way to the ground!  and the strap ended up being a million miles long even though she did it to my exact measurments!  eeps!

soooo, i'd recommend being fancy and adding that liner!   ;)b

What cool thing should i knit that isnt a hat/scarf/sweater/socks (that uses normal straight needles because i cant figure out other onesssssssssss)???

Knit yourself a Joseph afghan! Cast on a pleasing width, and merrily stripe along until you've used up all your scraps. When the strip is as long as you want, cast off and make another. You can knit with 2 colours at once to make it extra warm.

ETA: 2 colours at once. Either hold 2 strands together as one, or knit alternate stitches with each colour. That will give you a "thermal blanket" effect with the strand you carry over on the back. Garter stitch is best for this, which gives you good mindless TV knitting.

If you want solid, one-colour stripes, here's a pleasing effect. When you're going to change colours, knit 2 together across the strip. Then, with the new colour, on the right side if there is one, knit one, and pick up one strand between the 2 togethers so you have the same number of stitches you originally started with. Or k1, yo, k1 across, whichever you prefer.

Cakes, i've been working on my bag. I did lots today. I will talk more in the knitting thread tomorrow.
Yabbit, hmmm, that sounds like i could do it. Next project perhaps?

And for ck
When do you pick mangos? We need to steal them from the house no one lives in next door, because there are TONS on the tree, and we dont know when to go over and grab a few.

Why does striped toothpaste gross me out? Doesn't matter which brand. I don't mind white paste, and I don't mind colour gel, but stripes of the two together...I just can't put it in my mouth.

I remember when Closeup was new...that "weird" red gel. I'm old.

yabbit, you are not old....I remember that too!! I begged my mom to get it for me! I still love the artificial cinnamon flavor....unfortunately, I'm now allergic to the red dye that it normally comes with. :(

Questions on a theme:

How come a tiny cut often hurts more than a big one?

And how come you can go months or even years without cutting yourself, and then cut yourself two or three times in a single week?
