hangover food

slowly but surely i'm making a transition to a vegan diet. i seem to cheat about once or twice a week, but that is getting better.
last night i went to a party visiting with friends i hadn't seen in at least a year (including someone i hadn't seen in three years). throughout the night i managed to suck down a bottle of wine and a few shots of jager/the weird liquor with the gold flakes in it (keep in mind i'm a solid 110 lbs  ::)).
when i got home early this morning i made a rice/tomato/potato/zucchini/chickpea casserole.
the hangover was so fierce that even after a meal and some water i had to take a nap.
in my hungover stupor i decided the best remedy for my situation was mcdonalds.
yuck, right? i mean, i haven't eaten there since last may after a camping trip. and i split a happy meal with my friend.
so what's everyone's favorite vegan hangover food? i need to build a list of foodstuffs to make for the day after parties. the casserole didn't curb the icky feeling of liquor induced dehydration, and it would be great to know some tried and true comforting recipes.
also, i'm allergic to all nuts and have an irrational distaste for apples.

ive never been drunk, so i cant really help, but my friend told me that jager has deer blood in it...idk if that's true, but if it is...def. not vegan lol

I stopped drinking for 2010 but I used to suck down a bottle of wine every night. I really like red wine. . . I miss it.

The best hangover food for me has always been something spicy, something with salsa. Before I was vegan it was usually an omelet with vegetables and salsa. A LITTLE hair of the dog always helps too.

And don't forget to rehydrate your system with water or one of those sports drinks if you like them (I don't) and fresh fruit juice for the vitamins.

I know it sounds gross to a lot of people, but when I have a bad hangover I crave pickle juice.  Drink just a little bit and it will help settle your stomach.

When I was vegetarian in grad school, my hangover food was velveeta creamy mac and cheese with ginger ale.  I haven't had a hangover in a while, but I think last time, I made tofu scramble with toast and LOTS of ketchup.

Back in my partying days I did the same thing as you did, straight to McDonalds.  Now, I rarely ever drink and when I do it's generally not enough to end up hungover, but on those VERY rare occasions that I do feel a bit iffy in the morning, I drink tomato juice and it helps.  I know someone else that swears by fresh Thai coconut water.

biscuits http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=16632.0
and tater tots
maybe some gimme lean sausage

I crave grease and salt and those things do me up right.  Follow with a nap and start over again later in the day.

Jager does not have deer blood in it.  Not that that tid bit should be interpreted that it is in any way good for you.  but, I too have done my time with Jager.
http://www.snopes.com/business/secret/jagermeister.asp

Origins:  Once again, another popular darkish beverage has attracted a "something noxious lurking in its depths" rumor. In this case, the liquid in question is Jägermeister, a 70-proof spirit imported from Germany. Jagermeister logo (Jägermeister is German for "master hunter," hence the elk head on the label.) Folks recall hearing the rumor about this potable containing elk or deer blood at least as far back as 1992.

Jägermeister is made from 56 herbs, roots, and spices, none of which is blood. Once the 56 ingredients are measured and ground, they are reduced to macerates (extracts) by being steeped in a mixture of cold water and alcohol for two to three days. After the resulting extract has been filtered, it is stored in oak barrels for a period of not less than one year. At the end of this storage time, the extract is filtered once more, mixed with liquid sugar, caramel, alcohol, and water, and filtered yet again. The resultant brew is then ready for
bottling.

Were blood one of the ingredients, Jägermeister would not be able to control the brewing results as accurately as it does. Blood would break down during processing, rendering one batch of formula after another unsuitable for use.

Jägermeister has attracted the blood rumor primarily through two factors: the darkness of the resultant drink and the logo on the bottle. Popular lore is rife with examples of dark-hued liquids that are rumored to hide noisome ingredients, such as schoolyard scuttlebutt that chocolate milk masks the presence of cow blood, and its slightly more sophisticated counterpart that saddles Red Bull with the claim that it is formulated from an extract of bulls' testicles.

Jägermeister inadvertently contributes to the believability of the blood rumor by claiming to use "one or two secret spices" in its formula. This coyness is a common ploy used by products looking to build market share through fostering belief their offerings are so special their recipes must be jealously guarded lest competitors steal their thunder. (Witness how well this has worked for Coca-Cola, for example.) However, the downside of such marketing strategies is the weak position it places companies in when rumors of this nature arise — they can't just point to their ingredients lists in response.

I usually have make lentil scramble.. any lentil burger recipe but i dont make burgers i jsut fry it and add tomato suace ontop.
Usually lentils, breadcrumbs, onoins and oil... with the sauce and even rice if its really bad.

I make homemade chips, or i have junk.. corn chips in the apartment.

I dont know where you are from so that limits my advice, in australia we have a place in melbourne called lord of the fries you can get vegan chips and burgers until 4 in the morning.. dangerous.

baked beans on toast is good is always good, at my parnets my mum used to buy frozen vegan spring rolls they only rook 20 minutes in the oven. Oven toast it good with margirine and tahini.. or what every you like. I usually have a good hung over food in the house if i know im going to a party that night. There was always a place to buy a vegetarian pizza that could be made vegan or some cookes.
Always remember to drink atleast 1 glass of water or juce before you sleep.. totally helps the hangover

The best thing i used to do was carry something with me in my bag when i would drink alot, an apple or cookies.. I had lots of began friends so it was a little easier.

Drinking rules. I'm hungover right now and I'm currently eating some breakfast quinoa with apples, coconut, spices and orange zest. I topped it with earth balance, pure maple syrup and drown it all in soymilk. Fucking tits.

If I get carried away and have more 'fruit of the vine' than I should, I DEF'LY tend to not wanna COOK the hangover breakfast... don't do McD's  ever, but on such occasions will indulge in Waffle House 'scattered' hash browns, extra crispy, with tomatoes/ peppers/ onions/ mushrooms... mmmm! Salty greasy indulgent comfort food!

Also, as others here have said, lots of water & naps are mandatory... Ginger or anise tea is good, too, as an after-breakfast pre-nap hot drink, if your stomach feels icky; chamomile or catnip tea is good for headaches. Moderation, of course, is always theoretically the better approach... but sometimes it's easy to forget to use that technique! Luckily the hangover problem is time-limited, and passes fairly quickly... Feel better soon!

progresso lentil soup or any takeout leftovers i might have in the fridge if im staying home.

if i go out for brunch i'll want one of everything on the menu but probably get a tofu omelet/scramble w/ potatoes or a burrito.  i think burritos were invented to cure hangovers.

I second the hashbrowns or takeout.

I'd also like to add that I've always thought a grilled avocado sandwich would be the perfect hangover food, although I can't remember whether I've used one for that purpose. (My hangovers are few and far between these days.)

thanks for the great suggestions!
unfortunately there's pretty much no available vegan takeout. i live in a province that prides their cattle production and the only thing a vegan can have "out" most places is plain rice and iceberg lettuce salad.

I'm usually too sick with the hangover to even think about eating.
But in my younger days, when I drank more and had a better tolerance, and I was a vegetarian..I loved greasy and salty food, grilled cheese, french fries, pizza.

Hangovers are a good time to take your leftover frozen chili out of the freezer you were saving, and let it thaw out while you nap on the couch with a cup of tea.

It sounds like the last thing you want to do, but a light jog and water is the quickest way to cure a hangover.

Frozen chips.. that is an option, baked beans on toast.. seroiusly good! I used to do that all the time.

I usually just eat left overs or toast, or make my boyfriend go out and buy ice cream.

Water is good, i drink really cold water.
