The Everything Pet Thread

I wanted to start this thread to be all about our pets.  Ask questions, help answer questions, tell a funny story about something your cat/dog/ferret/bird/rat, etc did, update everyone on your pet's health, tell us about a new pet, vent, grieve, laugh, etc.  I know I'll be posting here a lot and I hope you'll join me!

Holding ground is good news.  And she ate on her own.  Too bad they don't have a cause yet.

wow!! thanks so much for all of the information!  i will be reading A LOT tonight.  are ear infections usually caused by something internal like an allergy or what she eats?  or could it be something as simple as being dirty?  she plays in the dirt/mud every day.  her favorite activity is digging holes and then rubbing her head in them.  haha, its really very cute.  we never cleaned her ears after she did this because it seemed like the dirt would rub off.  but could that have caused the ear infections?

the vet also said that when looking at the ear gunk under a microscope that it was a lot of yeast.  does that tell me anything about how the infection was started?

Dini used to get ear infections from playing in the water. Black smelly stuff right? He has floppy ears so the moisture stays in there & leave a perfect environment for bad bacteria to grow. A couple times I was given drops for him because of the infections. Now I just make sure to dry them out after he plays in water & I check on them regularly. I just get a tissue & use my finger to swipe it around the inside of his ear. Then I give him a treat. So he tolerates the ear cleaning knowing that he will get a treat after. I clean Molly's ears the same way & she's never had an infection.

mdvegan, I really hope Tony Danza gets better soon.

If it was overnight, then she was vomiting more randomly?  It wasn't after eating?  Is she eating at all on her own or keeping her food down?

Bring her home for 24 hrs and see if she calms down? I know that the stress of other animals around (all/most of whom are sick or in pain or scared or all three) can really mess an already sick animal up worse. My vet when I had my kitteh had a little "isolette" rigged up so they could be quiet and in the semidarkness if required.

Aw...poor Tony! I think I would bring her home too where she'll feel safe. I know it's hard. We struggled with my Dudey Pie and he did much better at home. Also, if the milk thistle is too much for her, give the homeopathics a try. Dudey got used to his quickly and actually liked taking them! I had to administer them every 15-30 minutes when he was really sick and then the dosage was lowered as he begn to recover, down to 3-4X a day. We had the little tablets that we disolved in a bit of water and used one of those plastic medicine droppers. Tony is in my thoughts...hang in there!

I finally got to see the vet I like!  (The one and only doc who got Houdini's 'diagnosis' right out of 20+ vets and a slew of students.)

We're bringing her home in about two hours to stay overnight for a trial run (leaving the catheter in just in case she needs to go back.)  They're giving her fluids now that way if she does vomit overnight she won't get dehydrated.

Abrimmer, I just ordering a homeopathic milk thistle and hepar suis.  Hope they help!

YES! I am so glad you get to bring her home!  ;)b From personal experience I think she vomitted from stress.....I mean her body is already stressed from the illness and then not being at home is extra stress. I know Stanley (my FeLV) kitty vomits when he is at the vet or just simply overly stressed. ((((MDV and family and Tony Danza))))

Bathing is an excellent sign. She's getting herself tidied up and resting.

Sometimes rest and love (and a feeding tube) is all it takes.

I'm so upset.  Tony just vomited.  It wasn't much, but it is the first time she's done that all day.  I don't know whether I fed her too much or too fast or if she just isn't getting better.  I feel like such a failure.  It was her fourth feeding at home.  I don't want to call the vet because he'll want her hospitalized again.

(((hugs))) You are NOT a failure! You are giving Tony all the love and care she needs and this is not your fault! I know how helpless you feel, believe me, I've been there more times than I care to count. I'd say just watch her. Like you said, it was only a little, so maybe  she just got a little too much or too fast. Keep us all posted and know that there are many many people sending love and positive thoughts your way!
