excessive sweating
Like many of you, I have problems putting things into or on my body if I don't know where they came from or trust whats in them. One of the products I'm most concerned about, however, is something called Certain Dri. As a teen I've always sweat a bit more than I think is average for someone my sex and age. As I have gotten older, however, the amount has decreased somewhat but not completely. Antiperspirant deodorants never did me any good in reducing wetness until I found Certain Dri. This product seriously has worked miracles for me but I KNOW that it isn't made with good things.
Do any of you have any suggestions for products which are more "natural"? I'm also pretty positive that this contains aluminum which I know is not good to put into your body in large amounts as it can lead to lots of nasty things later on down the line. I only use Certain Dri once a week or once every two weeks (I used to use it once a day but you use it less and less the more your body becomes accustomed to it) however over the course of several years that can definately add up.
Thanks :)
Unfortunately, there really is no such thing as a natural anti-perspirant. No natural deodarent will block your sweating glands or pores. So, sweating will happen.
I know baking soda keeps people dry. I've heard of people mixing baking soda and corn starch and using that. But, I can't vouch for this as I have never tried it.
hm, this sounds like me(excessive sweating), but it didn't ever decrease, it has gotten worse and has been a big problem for me for the past couple of years. I am always wearing a jacket, a loose t-shirt, or a tank-top. I can't wear tight shirts, like normal "girl" shirts or long sleeve shirts because I am too afraid of what everyone will think or say. I know that sounds terrible, but this part of me is what holds me back from a lot of things. I have never found deodorant that works for me, vegan or non-vegan. I think I might have even tried Certain Dri, but not sure, I have tried MANY.
If anyone does know of vegan antiperspirant deodorants, it would help me a lot too.
Certain Dri isn't really like a deodorant. It's something you put on at night, a roll on, and I'm not sure exactly what it does, but it is certainly dry :)

ohhh, yeah yeah, I'm pretty sure I tried that, it irritated my underarms, like a rash I think. I can't remember too well, but when I found it I was so excited, and then that happened :/
Me too. I know you're not supposed to use it right after you shave..but if I want to use it every night, I have to shave sometime. Or then there's just a hairy pit situation that is just as bad as the sweating problem. I found that I had better results with Maxim, but it stings too. The best thing I've tried is Secret Clinical Strength.....all not vegan :-\
I ordered Maxim off the internet, but it might be found in some pharmacy type stores (CVS or Walgreens, not sure though). But Secret Clinical Strength has been in just about every store I've been in (and yes, I immediately go for the deoderant section of every store I go into) and it works the best.
I just found this about a week ago at a wholesale club. I've been using it for the past couple of days and it really has worked for me! However, my main concern was eliminating the odor not just the sweating itself.

The website has a brief Q & A if you want to check it out.
i love baking soda. i used to sweat like crazy but it helps a lot. just give it a try, i'm sure you all have it at home.

how would you use this? like just make a paste w. water and slab it on? haha i'm picturing some messey situations.
um, i just dust it on.
i am kind of lazy with my underarm care but typically i use natural vegan DEODERANT (no antiperspirant) then dust on some baking soda after i shower... then after that (you know, in my subsequent days of not showering) if i feel i need to i will put on one of the other.
give it a while, after a month or so (of no antiperspirant) you don't sweat as much.

I feel your pain! I have long been a sufferer of social anxiety-induced sweating, and I think I spent all of high school trying to adjust to this problem. What I've found works best for me, actually, is to just wear the minimal amount of deodorant possible, just enough to not smell. The logic here is that I'm going to sweat more than an anti-perspirant can handle anyway, so a heavy-duty anti-perspirant usually just ends up transferring more moisture to my clothes (and maybe even irritates my skin, causing me to sweat more).
I find there are plenty of clothes options that work and still fit well & look good: layers in colder weather, tank tops and sleevless shirts in warmer weather, certain materials and colors hide sweat easily (especially patterns). But mostly, I've just learned over time that nobody really notices, and even if they do, nobody really cares. So I don't let it bother me, and that really helps A LOT, because being nervous about sweating makes you sweat more!
I've heard of a natural cure for sweaty feet that I assume would work for sweaty armpits also, though I've never felt inclined to try it. Get a bunch of black tea bags (the footbath used 10) and steep in piping hot water. Soak a couple towels in the hot tea, then keep 'em in your armpits for half an hour. Do this once a day for one week, then the effects should last for three weeks after that. The idea is that the tannin in black tea is a natural astringent, so you're shrinking your pores and tightening the skin so it won't sweat as much, or something like that. Seems a little time-consuming to me, but it might work?
I am a big sweater as well. Even when I am cold I will often feel a drip running down and it sucks!! BUT, I am a huge believer in natural deoderants. After all, sweating is a natural bodily function that works to cool your body down and also release toxins. The chemicals in antiperspirants interact to form little "gel-like plugs" that clog your pores and thus prevent sweating. Sweat is virtually odor-free but when it reacts with bacteria on your skin that is where the smell comes from. I find that switching up my deoderants works the best for me so I always have a few on the go. It seems like if I use one particular deoderant for a sustantial amount of time my body gets used to it and I get stinky!I also have to re-apply a couple of times a day which can be annoying but a minor inconvenience in relation to possible detrimental effects from antiperspirant. I really like the crystal rocks ( although they aren't very portable), as well as this spray I have that I get at my HFS called "Dr. Mist". I usually keep an Ombra roll-on in my bag also. Sometimes I rub teatree oil into my underarms also. Yes, I've tried a lot!
