How did you meet your partner?

I could have SWORN this was an old thread, but I couldn't find one so I'm making it.
I saw some people talking about how they met their partners in a thread and I thought it needs to be a thread, cause I love hearing those stories.
Me (which most people probably know) - Vegweb... ;D Still makes me laugh. Long story short.. friends on vegweb, really randomly and crazily decided to move in together, and developed affections for each other after we met IRL. So weird, but great!
i didn't know that!!! awww how cute!
i have no partner so i can't contribute but i like hearing stories like this!
Really? You were on vegweb back then, too! Crazy.
I walked into DH's office and there he was. Literally.
I always say it was "love at second sight--I went back and had another look." He worked in a travel agency, my roommate had trouble with her airplane ticket (as in, Capitol went bust while she was here in Europe on a study trip) and her Spanish was awful so I went with. She was 30, he was 37, I was 20 and used to being "the friend" (ie ignored). He looked up, and that was it--I was toast. But of course I never thought he'd notice me, no one ever did.
I went back with my friend a couple of times, and then whenever anyone wanted to travel I'd offer to introduce them to "that nice travel agent we know". He finally asked me out because he'd had a fight with the girl he was casually dating at the time, and wanted to be busy.
We spent the entire first date telling each other how serious relationships are a bad idea (I was rebounding from a very hurtful relationship 6 mos earlier)...and by the end of the 2nd date, we found ourselves engaged.
That was 28 years ago and we're still together.
P and I went to Jr. High together, but didn't really know each other until high school. We were flirt buddies in high school (he was a major ASS jerk type guy that all the girls loved), friends at the beginning of college, and then started dating our sophomore/jr year in college. We had some on/off dating type stuff, but officially dating 2003, engaged 06-07, and married 4/28/07. I'm just lucky that he became the sweetest, bestest hub in the universe. He really is a great guy. :) Getting close to our 4 year wedding anniversary. ;)
My story is almost like Hesps. but not on the internet. We met as first year teachers at a high school (we were ages 24 and 22). We had both just moved to town and didn't know anyone. he was band, I was art. We moved in together on a crazy whim of us both needing a place, and then grew attracted to each other and were engaged within 7 months...Married about a year later.
I was not attracted to him the first time we met, but I KNEW that we would be married some day...even though I didn't dig him all that much! I seriously knew it the first day I met him. It was weird. He liked me from the beginning, I think.
He has turned out to be an awesome husband and dad....and is a great person all around. I don't know how he puts up with me!
We will be married 13 years this summer. :)

very cool, l2a! it's very strange living together your entire relationship, but i can't imagine it any other way, now. I'm sure it leads to a relationship progressing quickly. people always think we have been together much longer than we have and are surprised when i tell them we've only been together a little over 2 years.
Andy and I met in college - he was in 3 of my classes but I didn't notice him...
One day I was wearing a Get Up Kids t-shirt and he stopped by to tell me he liked them too. Then I think he kinda stalked me for a while - I thought he was weird, but he told me I had a sexy neck, so that buttered me up....
I invited him to come to a party with me - he was the only straight guy in a room full of 20 some gay men and he survived, like a champ I might add - that's when I fell for him.
He moved into my parents house with me after his step dad kicked him out - then we got an apartment together, 4 months after meeting....been together ever since!!
Just had our 3 year wedding anniversary, but Jan. 28th will be our 9 year dating anniversary :)>>>
aww great stories!
I met my husband through mutual friends when we were at university .
First time I met him on a pub crawl bus where she was trying to set him up with another mate, mid-2004
I went with my friend to see his band play a gig in a pub, he was wearing a Dream Theater shirt, I didn't know anyone who liked/knew of Dream Theater so we had a big conversation about favourite albums/songs blah blah, 2005
Party at my friends' place, February 2006 I arrived really late after work, he was drunk as hell and went to sleep/coma-ed soon after, but got my number first...
Which he used to invite me to his flatwarming in August, where we got rather pissed together, talked about music and religion and all sorts of stuff, hooked up and that was pretty much it! haha
eta: we were engaged after nine months, moved in together that same month, married six months later and have just had our third wedding anniversary. shit's awesome. : )
hesp, i must have been very out of the loop! lol
i love the stories everyone!
My mom and husband used to work at the same library. I was still a teenager and he was in his early twenties when we first met - I'd go to holiday parties and the like at my mom's work. He and my mom really liked each other (in a platonic way, of course) and she started to invite him over for dinner or to play board games with our family. Our relationship was purely platonic too for the first 6 years or so. Then when I was 20, he asked me on a date, I accepted, and we were married when I was 22. A few months before our marriage, my husband got promoted and became my mom's boss, so my mom transferred to another library branch. We'll have been married 8 years in June. :)
I love that my parents and husband get along so well. He was already a good friend of the family before we started our relationship.
Now I wish I could say the same about my relationship with his parents - but that's another story.
I like this thread!
We met at uni. The uni I went to didn't have enough halls (dorms) for all the first year students and so they held a 'secure a home' day....basically all the first years at the uni went to the students union a few weeks before uni started to meet and find housemates for the next year.
N was in his final year at uni and him and his mates needed one more person to move in with them. I was waiting at the bar to get a drink and N walked up to me and asked if I was looking for flat mates, and I was like 'um yeah, it's secure a home day - everyone here is looking for flatmates!'. We got chatting and drinking and I agreed to move in.
I moved in the next week and then 2 weeks after that i went out with some mates from uni and got really drunk, bumped into N who was out with his mates. We ended up going home as we were both really drunk, ended up kissing on the way home and had a one night stand that night......longest one night stand ever - 10 years later and we're still together.
So we were living together from the very beginning. During my second year at uni we lived apart due to N not knowing what he was going to be doing when I needed to find house mates fr my 2nd year. It was horrible and we moved back in together during my 3rd year at uni, and have been living together ever since, but with no intention of getting married ever.
crazy how many people have lived together before they were together. i thought we were odd ;)
hopfrog- that is really awesome!
I love all these stories!! :)>>>
Evan and I met at work. We were both stationed on the same ship and he was my boss. When I first met him I thought he was the biggest dickhead. He thought I was snotty just because I was blonde (and pretty... according to him) and he didn't think I would be able to hang doing my job (partly because I used to get violently seasick in FLAT seas).
We really started out as friends. Seeing as how we were both in engineering we were always last to leave the boat, we were both new to the area and we were the same age.... it kinda made sense to hang out together.
On our long summer patrol down in Puerto Rico we had a port call. Both of us got extremely drunk and he asked to kiss me. I said; "why not!" and it was all over from there. We were inseparable for the next 9 months. We were underway together and when our boat was inport, we lived together at his place. This upcoming April will make 5 years happily married.
i wish i had a story :/ damn it... yours are all too cute tho!
I was 19, years ago, newly out on my own & waiting tables for the first time... the person that hired me was saying, 'today you'll be shadowing ___...' and my shadowee turned around and---*zonk!* I think I actually stumbled... bright auburn hair & these bright, light bluegreen eyes & this really freeze-ray kinda smile... my inner slut immediately went mrAWRRRR, heLLOOO!!!! so anyway... we dated for like a year, got way too serious way too fast, lived together for a couple months, broke up, made up, broke up again, made friends again, stayed friends for 13 years, both got halfway to the altar with other people, I had a child out of wedlock (not his), & that whole time we always saw each other for birthdays, holidays, breakups, significant life events (he was the person who stayed with me in the hospital post-cesarean, so my boy could spend the night in my room vs the nursery-- even though future-hub was seeing someone else/ practically engaged at the time, & took all kinds of grief for it)... had the occasional 'booty call' over the years, when we were both free... but basically were just really good friends, for a really long time. Then he moved back to where I was, to finish his dissertation; I was in a 4-year relationship that I was trying not to give up on (why not?! still not sure!)... & with him around, I went: "(forehead smack!) what the hell am I DOING? *This* is what a *good* guy is like... *this* is who I want... duh!!!" SO... I did the only logical thing possible: ditched the a-hole I'd been treading water with, and married my true love a year later.
We just celebrated our 6th/ 19th anniversary. ;D
awwww your story is like a movie!
Day-um! I'm loving these stories! :)>>>
I met Preston in the Vdubb chat when we did those.
I don't care if we're only facebook married. It counts and he's awesome.
My roommate (well, we moved in together a week after this) invited me to come have a drink with him at a lesbian bar in our neighborhood and sing some karaoke. He knew Mrs. Base and wanted to get in Mrs. Base' pants, so roommate invited Mrs. Base to the bar as well. So roommate introduces us and we end up talking all night long. 4 hours later, the bar closes and I invite Mrs. Base over to our place. We've spent every moment together since then and my roommate has never shown any hard feelings for getting with his possible one-night stand
You guys all have such great stories! I won't sully the thread by posting my tawdry tale.
