What kind of soaps do you use???

OK, I'm home sick, bored, so here we go. What kind of soaps do you use around your house? Dish soap, dishwasher soap, laundry detergent, hand soap...

I use some yummy pear scented enviro-friendly dish soap, Ecover dishwasher powder (I swear, it's the only stuff that doesn't leave a nasty residue), seventh generation dye/scent free laundry soap, Ecover fabric softener, and Kiss My Face pear hand soap. I'm really into pear scented things apparently, even though I don't like pears, go figure.

I use trader joe's brand dishwasher soap and laundry detergent. I love the kiss my face hand soaps. I think I have the pear one in my bathroom right now. As for bar soaps, I found a local soapmaker who makes incredible soaps (his lemongrass is my favorite right now).

we're still using the standard dish, laundry and household soaps that the previous owner left behind.  after this, its all green soaps.  i still dont feel quite comfortable mopping the floor with some chemicals when we have a dog around...

I use Ecostore for my shampoo, conditioner, body soaps, dishwashing and laundry powder. The soaps are so yummy smelling! Lemongrass and vanilla are the winners so far, though coconut's a sad disappointment.

I make all my cleaners with various combinations of baking soda, washing soda, borax, vinegar, lemon juice, and dr. bronners.

Ecover washing up liquid, cream cleaner, multi surface cleaner & their squirty one.

Original source shower gel (as shower gel and in our hand wash dispenser thingy), shampoo and conditioner.

I use all of these things because they're easy to get hold of in normal shops and they are all endorsed by the UK vegan society.

Natural, oil-based soaps wherever poss. Here in Europe, known as Marseilles or Castile soap, or known by the brand Sunlight, if you live in England. The bar-soap is perfectly useable in the shower and on your hair. My MIL used to grate a bar into a large jar and cover with boiling water, let it stand a couple of hours and then use it as shampoo. It works, smells nice and doesn't damage your hair. Go for the pale brown kind if your hair is dry, the green bar if it's oily.

I am slowly finding eco-replacements for things like dishwasher soap etc. It takes time to work out where I can find the substitutes...see my rant on baking soda!! The local place I can find such things in large packaging is  VERY popular, and it's an old fashioned store where you have to wait to be served by the counter man, not just grab what you want. So I need a whole morning for that!

I use Ecover, 7th Generation, and Earth Friendlly Products for housecleaning and laundry.  I just started buying vegan soaps a few months ago.  I've been using Veganu(sp?) body soap that I bought at veganessentials.com and it's pretty good.  I also have some Dr. Bronner's liquid soap that people here recommend I try, and it's pretty good.

Yabbit... do you know if Sunlight is vegan?  I did a quick search of the Unilever site and couldn't find any info.  My mom has had a bar of Sunlight next to her kitchen sink forever and when I moved out I started using it to.  One day my nanny said she really like the kitchen soap because it made her hands so soft... so I started thinking about it and ASSUMED that it probably had lard or something equally as disgusting in it!  I stopped buying it. Could it be my beloved sunlight is accidentally vegan?  It's the lemony yellow kind.

As far as I know it's all veg oil. Animal fat makes scum, and is not hypoallergenic. Sunlight was unscented several years ago and as far as I know, still is.

:'( I just bought a package of sunlight soap... brought it home... flipped it over and noticed the ingredient list (why didn't I look in the store?!?)... first ingredient is sodium tallowate... wiki says sodium tallowate is made from lye, steam and animal fat  :'(  it also contains a bunch of stuff I can't pronounce!... Canadian sunlight aint so pure!

So, that's kinda freaky--I use the same scent of Seventh Generation, peppermint Dr. Bronner's, and olive oil Kiss my Face.  Are you secretly living in my house and using my soap?!  ;D

I also use biokleen automatic dishwasher detergent and Bon Ami abrasive cleaner for tubs, sinks, etc.  I'm finally almost out of all of my non-vegan, chemical-laden cleaners.  I'm so excited!

Avalon organics for hair.

365 Dish Soap with orange oil.

Seventh Generation laundry detergent.

Dr. Bronner's almond for face, various Dr. Bronner's for body and shaving.

So, has anyone else discovered the magic that is the Dr. Bronner's rose scented castile soap?!? I nearly had a heart attack at Whole Foods the other day because I love love LOVE rose-scented things. It was previously only available as a bar but now it is in the liquid soap as well. They also have orange scented now but I'll stick with the rose for now. :)>>>
