a nice, light, easily absorbed moisturizer. I have bad combination skin (dry and acne prone), and this is moisturizing without being greasy. It is fine under makeup, and doesn't make makeup look shinier like some moisturizers. However, I hate the packaging -- a pump would be much more sanitary. I use it at night only, because it doesn't have sun protection. It's gentle enough to use under the eyes. (rkathleen)

Hold style cream
I think it was $8.99 for 4 ounces. It was definitely under $10 at my hfs. Alba Style Cream keeps my hair up and out. It creates a bit of a "crust," but if I scrunch my hair a little after it's dry my hair becomes closer to being normally soft - moreso than with any of the waxes I've used. The hold isn't as secure as the Nanowax so I'm not sure if it'd do a fauxhawk, but for short hair it works well enough to be a less expensive alternative to Nanowax. (hh)
Sport sunblock SPF 45 Very Emollient
I like this so far. I'm not positive how affective it is, but it's not greasy, or stinky. It's nice and light. I'm ok with how it works, but it doesn't seem SUPER protective. (AC)

Baking soda
(armpits) I've used it for almost two years now...works great. I just pat some (dry) on. I found when I started mixing with water, I would mix too much water in, and it wouldn't be as effective. (AC)
Miracle in the kitchen and bathroom. I've been a stinky person most of my life, sweating a lot during sports, and I've tried all the "clinical" and super strength deodorants, switched them every couple of weeks, everything! And I could never get any help. Then I decided to try the baking soda as deodorant, and I swear it changed my life! I run and sweat a lot, and this has never let me down. I don't sweat as much anymore, I don't smell after runs anymore, and now I don't wash my running clothes as often, because they don't smell! I can't talk about this enough, and I've told anyone that will listen this is the way to do deodorant. I do mix it with some cornstarch, because the baking soda can be a bit abrasive when you're applying it to your pits. I mix them together in a little jar and sprinkle out a little after a shower, add a drop of water, make a paste, and you're good to go. (veganrun)
(face) THIS IS THE BEST FACE 'WASH.' I haven't had a real break out in months, and this is the first thing that has worked this well in...like the 11 years that I've had acne. I seriously only get tiny bumps that usually go away as soon as I wash my face again. I had one small break out right before my period, but that's to be expected. I love this. I just splash my face with water, dab some baking soda (usually mixed with cornstarch, because it's the same I use for armpits) on fingers, rub over face, and rinse. At least try it. (AC)
(hair) it's all ive been using for the past couple months (aside from conditioner once in awhile) and i love it. and by 'past couple months' i mean i use it 1 to 2 times a week - usually 1.. it's awesome & theres no waste. i just mix a couple tablespoons of it with a splash of water to make a paste and that's it.. my hairs super clean. (ppc)
I've been doing this also, but with a vinegar rinse, and I love it. I use it 2-3 times per week, and agree with ppc. (AC)
I recently (after a few months) had to stop using baking soda for hair, because I just couldn't get a good ratio. My hair was either feeling weird/dryish, or greasy and matted. (AC)

I use it every day, and like it. I regularly use the "light." I'm naturally fair skinned, and I have imperfections, and the light works well. I think the key is to "buff" it in, instead of just brushing it on. If you have lighter skin, I think the light would work. The fairly light didn't seem to give me enough coverage. I also have some golden medium that doesn't look bad, but I'm saving it for when I get a bit tanned. I buy all of mine on eBay..a lot less expensive. The 9g is the big one, the 2 g is small. I also have one of the blushes, and I really like it. (AC)
One of the girls asked about the difference between bare mineral and bare essentuals ... while they are the same company ... their products that are marked "bare minerals" and pure minerals .... the one's marked "bare escentuals" are not exactly 100% natural ... they also have another breakoff line "buxom" they're not all natural either .... and lastly ... they have come out with a new line of lipsticks that are 100% naturals however they might have beeswax ... i don't know for sure .... so i can't say if they are ALL vegan. This does the job, as well, and again, I don't have any complaints..or any real praises.I like this smell, also. It's about the same as the tea tree one, but with a different scent. (AC)

I don't use this often, but I think when I do..my hair is extra soft? I only use it if I have a few tangles. I don't think it leaves my hair too greasy. I guess I don't notice much about my hair..it does help with tangles, though. (AC)

I think we've also used this one, but I'm not really sure. If so, it works the same as the others...I don't remember the scent, though. (AC)

Vitamin C with Coq10
is wonderful for me. It is gentle enough for my very sensitive skin, doesn't lead to breakouts, and isn't drying either. It also removes makeup easily and the price is reasonable. I have been using it for about a year and wish I'd found it earlier. I can't find it locally and have purchased it from Amazon. (rkathleen)

AC what about the brand yes to carrots? They offer many vegan items... or r these strictly vegan companies only?
AC what about the brand yes to carrots? They offer many vegan items... or r these strictly vegan companies only?
I'm open to additions! : )
Yes To Carrots:
Body Care: Carrot Rich Shower Gel: This worked okay but not as rich and creamy as I am used to maybe 3 out of 5 stars.
Hair Care: I do not like the Yes to Carrots hair care products. The conditioner has honey. When I used the shampoo alone it left my hair feeling super gunky (like I left conditioner in it... which I for sure didn't cause this happened like 5 times)... When I used the conditioner too my hair wasn't gunky anymore but ended up super tangled and I noticed I had tons of hair falling out. I would not recommend the Carrots line of hair care products.
I've been on the search for vegan hair mousse. I haven't found mousse with any of the vegan lines. At Target I found Nexus Mousse Plus. The ingredients are pretty much all big chemical names, so I don't know if there's an animal-derived ingredient in it, but the container states that it's "never tested on animals." It's light and doesn't make my hair feel greasy.
I use a Natural Mousse from Giovanni, it says on the bottle no animal by-products and cruelty free. It's basically a fusion of essential oils and plant proteins.
A brand of cosmetics I use is called Gabriel Colors. I started using their products due to having very sensitive skin. http://www.gabrielcosmeticsinc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=page.display&page_id=30
For lotions, it's easy to make your own. Again due to having sensitive skin I have been making my own for a few years now. Also right before bed you could pop a Vitaman E tablet, mix it with some Jojoba oil and put it on your face and neck, it's safe enought to put around your eyes - just leave on over night and your face will be really soft in the morning.

Oh, hey I actually had them listed! Do you want to add some reviews for specific things you've tried? Looks like a great company.
I've been using an eyeliner pencil by Zuzu Luxe... I quite like it. It's a little soft, but not too much that you can't get nice, precise lines. It's easy to blend, but doesn't smear easily.
I just started using Giovanni Smooth as Silk shampoo in my bangs/fringe... WOW! Smells beautiful and cleans the hair while leaving it feeling soft.
Dr. Bronner Tea Tree, I use for my dreadlocks. I think most people are aware Dr. Bronner's is amazing... but I'll just confirm that. :) I use it for everything... to wash my body, dreadlocks, and to clean around the house, laundry, etc (For that I use Peppermint)
I also found that washing tattoos with Dr. Bronner's Tea Tree for aftercare/healing tends to work really well... FAR better than Dial crap like what my tattoo artist "recommends"
Clearly Natural Bar Soap (Rainforest) - I like it. It reminds me of Mexico. And a little like cleaning solution. Maybe like our hotel in Mexico after the maids cleaned it.
Nature's Gate Toothpaste (Creme de Mint) - Not what I'm used to, so it will take a while to adjust. My mouth didn't feel as clean afterwards, but if I wanted to drink some juice immediately after brushing my teeth, I bet I could and it wouldn't be that nasty.
Nature's Gate Deodorant (Autumn Breeze) - Smells kinda like a health food store or a head shop. Not of patchouli, but some other hippy like smell. I really like it though. Every time I lift my arm, I can smell it. And it seems to keep the sweat at bay. I got it - it kind of smells like Nag Champa, but not at all overpowering. I would recommend it.
Thanks for sharing!
I added some more stuff to the review. Also, that clearly natural brand looks really good. Bookmarked. ;)b

have you tried JASON Powersmile toothpaste? I've been using it, and it makes my mouth feel REALLY clean... ;)b
I'll try that one next....cuz I'm still not crazy about this one.....thanks!

Herbal daily conditioning conditioner
-The scent of this is really strong! I haven't even used it yet, but P had the smell lingering after him after the shower, and it filled the whole apartment! It's like powdery smelling, and kind of old ladyish. Not bad, but...strong. I imagine it conditions just fine.
Tea tree liquid soap
-This is our hand soap, and it's lasted for many months now. I don't have any complaints. The scent is pretty mild, but good.
I'll try that one next....cuz I'm still not crazy about this one.....thanks!
yup no problemo! I hope you like it as much as I do!
Hi I forgot to mention where I pick up the Gabriel Colors, it's sold at Super Supplements.. Also just found a new face wash called Thoroughly Clean Fash Wash, with organic tea tea tree oil and awapuhi from Desert Essense.. Also found at super supplements. If you have sensitive skin this is a great wash, none drying also.
I'm at least a few months late, but maybe this info can still help somebody...
There's a vegan hair care line at Sephora called Jonathan Product. It looks Sephora has recently cut down the stock they carry, but the website says you can find the products at Ulta and Bath & Body Works. They are pricier than mainstream brands, but about the same as salon products.
I have used:
Condition Weightless Smooth - definitely a thick and rich conditioner, and it did the job well.
Condition Leave-In - I use this after the shower to add more moisture and shine. I have a sample now, but I would buy the full-sized product.
They have shampoo, dry shampoo, conditioner, and styling products.
http://www.jonathanproduct.com/
Okay, so I tried the Merry Hempsters' orange lip balm. It wasn't spectacular. It was sticky and greasy, and made my mouth taste strange.
Today I bought some lip balm from Hugo Naturals. It's pineapple and coconut scented. It goes on and feels just like traditional (beeswax) lip balms. I really like it, and would recommend it.
Gabriel cosmetics:
General--available at my whole foods and is the cheapest makeup brand available there.
Liquid foundation (natural beige)--I really like it, and I've never used full-on foundation before. Has lots of moisturizers and sunscreens built in to it.
Powder foundation (light beige)--I use this dry as a regular powder (alone or over the liquid), or you can wet the sponge and use it as a more liquid-y foundation. I like it well enough--much of the time I just wear this without the liquid. I wish they would just put out a regular pressed powder, as powder + liquid feels like a lot as you're putting it on. And I don't see the point of moistening it to get it more liquid-y when I like the actual liquid foundation so much. Also, this is the first compact that I've ever broken... but that could just be me.
New one! MyChelle cosmetics: "little kisses" in wink. A cute little lipstick that actually got me to wear lipstick. It makes my lips just a little dry--but that was my complaint any time I wore lispstick.
Also, even though it has honey it I feel the need to defend "yes to carrots." The shampoos and conditioners work wonders for me. I switched to YTC when I decided to stop using shampoos with sodum lauryl/laureth sulfates in them. (My hair was falling out and my scalp was super irritated). I've been using it for the better part of the last year and it works great! Plus, it's affordable and available without a special trip to whole foods. (Target = 5 minutes away; WF = 15 minutes away).
I also really like YTC's lip balm (cherry--can't remember if it has honey in it). Nice, standard lip balm that makes my lips feel good and doesn't have any creepy colors of questinable origin (like some of the Burt's Bees products)
Speaking of YTC, I don't know what the rules are for posting thigns with honey so feel free to leave mine off. But both the shampoo AND the conditioner have honey in them, unlike what Amymylove previously said. (I just checked in my shower). I'm pretty sure the shower gel does too, although I don't use that (preferring castille soap, but castille soap just does NOT work on my hair).
PS: Dr. Bronner's soap in lavendar is the best face soap in the Universe--mostly because the lavendar smell on your face is super relaxing!
Oh, one more:
No Miss nail polish: I love this stuff!!! I've used their nail polish in three different colors. Also, they have a nail polish remover that works well.
New one! MyChelle cosmetics: "little kisses" in wink. A cute little lipstick that actually got me to wear lipstick. It makes my lips just a little dry--but that was my complaint any time I wore lispstick.
FYI for others interested: The company does not test on animals, but all products aren't vegan. The 'little kisses' has beeswax.
Caroleena, thanks for reminding me that I have some Dr. B's lavender soap!
eta: The YTC body care carrot rich shower gel, and shampoo also contain honey.
eta2: I don't see anything about No miss being cruelty free? They aren't on the no testing list. ???
Shoot! I'm sorry re: the lipstick--totally unintentional. I did look it up but I guess I didn't look closely enough...
Re: no miss--they say cruelty free all over their website, also the nail polish, removers and top/base coats are sold by veganessentials and veganstore.com, if that helps at all. don't know if there's anything more definite?
ETA: you are correct in that they have not signed PETA's statement of assurance. So if that's the criteria for this board, perhaps you'd want to leave them off for now. (note that no miss does have other beauty products that are not vegan... their lip products have beeswax in them.)
